Love & Redemption (The Florida Irish Book 1)

Love & Redemption (The Florida Irish Book 1)

Suzanne D Williams

REVISED – December 2016

***

“Do you love me?”

He reformed her question, and her stomach knotted. Now, he asked too much of her.

“I asked you first,” she whispered. She swallowed her regret, a wall erecting between them. He wanted those words from her, but she couldn’t say them. For in saying those three words, she’d commit herself to this, to him, and that was the trouble.

She’d said the vows – to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, ‘til death do them part. She’d said them, though, with a gun at her back and a stranger’s hand in hers. By admitting she loved him, the words took on meaning and held requirements. It meant she’d stay by his side always and maybe never see her family again. She became responsible to him.

A tear rolled down her cheek. She swiped it away.

Michael cleared his throat. “I love you, Anne. My question is, why you don’t love me back?”

—–

Michael O’Fallen simply wants to survive. A poor Irish boy living in post-Civil War New York, the events of one horrible night send him running far south to unsettled Florida and an uncertain future. Promise-bound to a group of outlaws in an effort to escape his crime, their hidden plans for him loom sinister on the horizon. What is it he’s been brought here to do?

The oldest of her siblings, Anne Sawyer is the one her poor mama depends on. Her papa is harsh and abusive. He drinks too much and gambles away what little they have. Rumors that he’s lost their house come full circle the night the new owner comes to collect. Except, it seems what her papa gambled this time wasn’t the house at all, but her.

Carried into the darkness in a stranger’s grasp, she and he are forced to marry with a gun to their backs. But the many dangers they face in their tenuous marriage soon take second place to the darkness in his past. Darkness that might destroy them unless they look to heaven for love and redemption.

Give Them Grace: Dazzling Your Kids with the Love of Jesus

Give Them Grace: Dazzling Your Kids with the Love of Jesus

Elyse M. Fitzpatrick

How are parents to raise children so they don’t become Pharisees (legalists) or prodigals (rebels)? It’s all about grace-filled, gospel-driven parenting, says the mother/daughter team of Elyse Fitzpatrick and Jessica Thompson. Christian parents, in their desire to raise godly children, can drift toward rule-centered discipline. There is, however, a far more effective method—a grace-motivated approach that begins with the glorious truth of God’s love for sinners.

In Give Them Grace, parents will learn how to connect the benefits of the cross—especially regeneration, adoption, and justification—to their children’s daily lives. Chapters address topics such as our inability to follow the law perfectly, God’s forgiveness and love displayed at the cross, and what true heart obedience looks like. Fitzpatrick and Thompson also discuss discipline, dealing with popular culture, and evangelism as a way of life. Parents will find this book a great resource for raising grace-filled, Jesus-loving kids.

The Real Heaven: What the Bible Actually Says

The Real Heaven: What the Bible Actually Says

Chip Ingram

Heaven has received a lot of attention in recent years as bestselling books and movies have told the stories of people who claim to have been there. But what does the Bible actually say about heaven? What difference does it make? What happens the moment after we die? What will our relationships be like in heaven?

Chip Ingram sets aside the hype and myths and digs into the Scriptures to discover what God actually wants us to know about the hereafter. Most importantly, Ingram shows why our understanding of heaven matters now, in this life. Because what we believe about heaven actually affects us today in ways we may not have imagined.

Mended: Pieces of a Life Made Whole

Mended: Pieces of a Life Made Whole

Angie Smith

We love to cheer for the underdog and believe to our core that every life makes a difference. And we are right. There is no one God can’t use and no one whose brokenness is too broken for God. We know this is true for our friends when we want to encourage them. Yet, when it comes to the places of our innermost sense of shame and regret, we often wonder if it is really true that God can work all things together for good for those who love Him.

Angie Smith is one who was quick to encourage a friend, but struggled to believe that God could truly make something spectacular out of her broken- ness and disappointments. Responding to God’s leading to both break and reconstruct a simple pitcher, she reflected:

It was as though God were saying, here you are, Angie. You are mended. You are filled with my Spirit, and I am asking you to pour yourself out.

The image of my life as a broken pitcher was beautiful to me, but at the same time, it was hard to look at all of the cracks. I ran my fingers along them and told Him I wish it had been different. How I wished I had always loved Him, always obeyed Him, always sought Him the way I should. I was mad at the imperfections, years wasted, gaping holes where it should be smooth. But God, my ever-gracious God, was gentle and yet convicting as He explained.

My dearest Angie. How do you think the world has seen me? If it wasn’t for the cracks, I couldn’t seep out the way I do. I chose the pitcher. I chose you, just as you are.

Mended takes you on a journey to show how faith lived in the regular events of daily life is all that it takes to be a part of creating God’s picture of redemption in your life and those around you. Your life does make a difference—because of how He is magnified in the cracks.

Homestands (Chicago Wind Book 1)

Homestands (Chicago Wind Book 1)

Sally Bradley

A Christian reconciliation romance from USA Today bestselling author Sally Bradley

When baseball star Mike Connor stumbles across his ex-wife six years after their divorce, he’s stunned to find that she’s the mother of a kindergartner who wears his jersey. And shares his last name.

The last thing Meg Connor wants is to be around Mike. After all, he was the one who hurt and abandoned her. But she can’t deny him—or their son—time together to build a relationship, which means Mike is around too often, reminding her of why she fell in love with him so long ago. If only she could forget their past… The painful and the good.

Between their guilt and closely held hurts, Meg and Mike struggle against each other, their feelings, and God as they fight their own desires for the future, a future that might never happen when the past that tore them apart collides with their present.

EXCERPT

She glanced over her shoulder at him, face pinched. “Go outside with Terrell,” she said, scrubbing a plate harder than seemed necessary. “I’ll clean up.”

“I told him I’d be out in a bit.” Mike set the dishes next to the sink. He leaned backward against the counter. “I missed you last night.”

She kept quiet, intent on the dirty dishes.

“They put me at a table with some Bears players. Nice guys. Big, though. The mayor was at the next table over. My friend Travis got stuck with a bunch of highbrows, but knowing him, he probably enjoyed it.”

She dropped silverware into the water, the clatter a slap to his dying patience.

“Felt like I talked to everybody there. People stopped by my table all night.” He gave her a sideways glance, but she didn’t seem to be listening. “Of course, I would have told them to get lost if you’d been there.”

Still no reaction.

“You can’t be mad at me for this, Meg. I wanted to take you. It stunk going with someone else.”

“Didn’t look like it,” she snapped.

This woman… “I paid for two tickets. I had to take someone. So stop making judgments based on what you think you’ve seen.”

She faced him, her jaw clenched, anger blazing in her eyes. “What I think I’ve seen? What about what I know happened?”

“I’m not talking about the past, Meg! I’m talking about last night. You saw… what? Half a second of us with our hands together? I wasn’t holding her hand. She held mine, and I got out of it as fast as I could.”

This wasn’t worth it. This was not worth it. If only he liked Sara; then he’d call her back like she wanted.

But he didn’t like her.

Not that he liked Meg at the moment, either. He bit down on his tongue and forced himself to stay. To wait for her to speak.

She rinsed one dish after another, the dishwasher slowly filling.

She was gonna drive him crazy.

He leaned back to catch her eye and force her to acknowledge him.

Her cheeks looked damp.

“Are you crying?”

“No.” She swiped her cheeks with her wrist. “I splashed water on my face.”

He’d never meant to hurt her. At least, not this time. Why were they suddenly so bad for each other? “Meg, you can’t jump to conclusions.” He reached for her shoulder.

She backed away, sudsy hands in front of her. “Don’t touch me,” she spat, tear tracks continuing down her face.

His temper snapped. “Believe me. It’s not even tempting right now.”

Her eyes hardened. Flickered.

Good.

He swallowed. No, not good. He’d just hurt her worse.

But she’d pushed him to it. What woman turned a guy down, then got upset when he took someone else? Did Meg not get her own insanity?

She returned to the sink. “Go outside with Terrell.”

Might as well. “I’m taking him with me. He can play on the field, hit in the batting cage. A kind of graduation present. You good with that?” Not that he cared. He was taking Terrell.

She shrugged. “Whatever, Mike. Just go.”

He headed for the back yard. How had this week gone so wrong?
