Juliette and the Monday ManDates: The Gustafson Girls Book 1

Juliette and the Monday ManDates: The Gustafson Girls Book 1

Becky Doughty

Juliette and the Monday ManDates is a delightful and fun read that will leave you wanting more. I cannot wait until the next installment of the series!

wyrtwizard

Note: The Gustafson Girls series is Christian Women’s Fiction with strong elements of Romance.

Juliette Gustafson is heart-broken after waiting nearly ten years for a proposal from her boyfriend that never came. Determined she isn’t “getting over Mike” quickly enough, her three sisters devise The Monday ManDates; an intervention plan requiring Juliette to endure what turns out to be a series of remarkably disastrous blind dates: TheraPaul, Frisky Frank, TAZ the rock star, and the stoic Tim Larsen, among others. Then there’s Victor Jarrett, the police officer with an affinity for pulling Juliette over when she’s at her very worst. But no one is more surprised than Juliette when she meets the one man who can right the wrongs in her past and change her future, if she will only let herself fall in love with him.

MEET THE GUSTAFSON GIRLS

When Paul and Simone Gustafson are killed by a drunk driver, the lives of their daughters change irrevocably. Although raised by loving grandparents, it’s the G-FOURce—the Gustafson Four Sisters Club—that binds them together when their differences would tear them apart. All grown up now, Juliette has become the quintessential doormat, Renata, the self-appointed matriarchal figure. Phoebe is, at least according to Renata, borderline narcissistic, and Gia is on the verge of a major identity crisis.

Then there’s Angela Clinton, the senior class darling who drove her cherry black 1970 el Camino into the side of their parents’ car on the night of Juliette’s high school graduation. Angela’s prison sentence is winding down; soon she’ll be eligible for parole and moving back to town. Will the G-FOURce be strong enough to hold them together as they step into the eye of the storm that’s been brewing for the last fifteen years? Will they finally be able to let go of the past and embrace the future, no matter what it holds?

Belonging: A Novel (Where The Heart Lives Book 1)

This book successfully hooked me into eagerly awaiting the next two books. I heartily recommend Belonging, if you like Christian western historical romance.

Crystal E. Miller

In the high desert town of Frenchman’s Bluff, Idaho, Felicia Kristoffersen has set out to create a future for herself that is better than her painful past. Alone in the world with only her faith to sustain her, she must prove herself as this tiny community’s new school teacher. She cannot, must not, fail. But, there are those who never wanted her there to begin with.

Five years after the death of his wife, local merchant Colin Murphy cares about just one thing: raising his daughter, Charity. Colin wants to give her the educational advantages he never had. The new schoolmarm’s inexperience doesn’t sit well with him, and if this teacher up and marries like the last one did, Charity’s heart will be broken once again.

A woman who hasn’t known love. A man who lost the love he had.

In the midst of the wide, sage-covered plains, each is about to discover that life’s bitterest circumstances truly can work together for good.

Tender, evocative, and beautifully written, Belonging is a journey about love after loss, and about two hearts destined to become one—despite their stubbornness! Belonging is Robin Lee Hatcher at her best!
—Tamera Alexander, bestselling author of Within My Heart and The Inheritance

Belonging is vintage Robin Lee Hatcher: a touching, tender love story, filled with genuine conflict and characters that quietly build a nest in your heart. A skillful blend of description, emotion, and spiritual reflection, Belonging will sweep you away to late nineteenth-century Idaho, glad to have a seasoned novelist driving your buckboard wagon with a sure hand. By story’s end you’ll no doubt sigh with relief, smile with delight, and turn back to page one for a second visit with our determined Miss K. Loved it!”

A Promise Kept (A King's Meadow Romance)

A Promise Kept (A King’s Meadow Romance)

Robin Lee Hatcher

I have been reading Robin Lee Hatcher’s books for a very, very long time. They have all been wonderful, but this one touches a deep place in the heart. The book is based on experiences in Robin’s own life and how she reacted to them.

Susan Snodgrass

God was going to save her marriage, Allison was sure of it. But neither her husband nor her marriage had been saved.

What had become of His promise?

Tony Kavanagh had been Allison’s dream-come-true. They were in love within days, engaged within weeks, married and pregnant within a year. Her cup bubbled over with joy . . . but years later, that joy had been extinguished by unexpected trials.

The day Allison issued her husband an ultimatum, she thought it might save him. She never expected he would actually leave. She was certain God had promised to heal; it was clear that she’d misunderstood.

Now, living in the quiet mountain cabin she inherited from her single, self-reliant Great Aunt Emma, Allison must come to terms with her grief and figure out how to adapt to small town life. But when she finds a wedding dress and a collection of journals in Emma’s attic, a portrait of her aunt emerges that takes Allison completely by surprise: a portrait of a heartbroken woman surprisingly like herself.

As Allison reads the incredible story of Emma’s life in the 1920s and 1930s, she is forced to ask a difficult question: Does she really surrender every piece of her life to the Lord?

Drawing from her own heart-wrenching story of redemption, A Promise Kept is Robin Lee Hatcher’s emotionally charged thanksgiving to a God who answers prayers—in His own time and His own ways.

Renata and the Fall from Grace: The Gustafson Girls Book Two

Becky Doughty

This is one of those books that brought me to tears many times, and one I will never forget. These characters are part of my life now, and I am looking forward to reading Phoebe’s story next. This novel is a gem that addresses heartache, married love, forgiving wounds from the past, family ties, and more.

Heda

Note: The Gustafson Girls series is Women’s Fiction with strong elements of romance, written from a Christian world view.

Renata Gustafson Dixon’s life is going exactly the way she wants it. Almost. A wonderful husband, four boys who fill her life with mostly joy and sometimes a little heartache now and then. She and John are giving things one last shot for the icing on the cake; a little girl with copper curls like John’s and cupid bow lips like Renata’s. Then Juliette, the oldest of the four Gustafson sisters, opens up a can of worms labeled ‘Angela Clinton’ at a G-FOURce meeting. Things are said and accusations made that can’t be taken back, sending Renata’s carefully-constructed world spinning out beyond her control. Renata must learn to set aside her own will and lean on the strength of those who love her before she loses all hope for the future.

Mrs. Wheelbarrow’s Practical Pantry: Recipes and Techniques for Year-Round Preserving

Cathy Barrow

The recipes are concise and easy to follow. There’s additional info in the head notes and the chapter introductions. And there are bonus recipes to use the items you’ve preserved. Make some crème fraîche and she’ll have you make a beautiful kale and potato galette with it.

A householder’s guide to canning through the seasons.

In Mrs. Wheelbarrow’s Practical Pantry, food preserving expert Cathy Barrow presents a beautiful collection of essential preserving techniques for turning the fleeting abundance of the farmers’ market into a well-stocked pantry full of canned fruits and vegetables, jams, stocks, soups, and more.

As Cathy writes in her introduction, “A walk through the weekend farmers’ market is a chance not only to shop for the week ahead but also to plan for the winter months.” From the strawberries and blueberries of late spring to the peaches, tomatoes, and butter beans of early fall, Mrs. Wheelbarrow’s Practical Pantry shows you how to create a fresh, delectable, and lasting pantry—a grocery store in your own home.

Beyond the core techniques of water-bath canning, advanced techniques for pressure canning, salt-curing meats and fish, smoking, and even air-curing pancetta are broken down into easy-to-digest, confidence-building instructions.

Under Cathy’s affable direction, you’ll discover that homemade cream cheese and Camembert are within the grasp of the weekday cook—and the same goes for smoked salmon, home canned black beans, and preserved and cured duck confit.

In addition to canning techniques, Practical Pantry includes 36 bonus recipes using what’s been preserved: rugelach filled with apricot preserves, tomato soup from canned crushed tomatoes, arugula and bresaola salad with Parmigiano-Reggiano and hazelnuts, brined pork chops with garlicky bok choy.

Tips for choosing the best produce at the right time of season and finding the right equipment for your canning and cooking needs—along with troubleshooting tips to ensure safe preserving—will keep your kitchen vibrant from spring to fall.

Whether your food comes by the crate, the bushel, or the canvas bag, just a few of Cathy’s recipes are enough to furnish your own practical pantry, one that will provide nourishment and delight all year round. Canning and preserving is not just about the convenience of a pantry filled with peaches, dill pickles, and currant jelly, nor is it the simple joy of making a meal from the jars on the shelf—creating a practical pantry is about cultivating a thoughtful connection with your local community, about knowing exactly where your food comes from and what it can become.

Plain Faith: A True Story of Tragedy, Loss and Leaving the Amish

Plain Faith: A True Story of Tragedy, Loss and Leaving the Amish

Irene Eash, Ora-Jay, Tricia Goyer (Contributor)

This is a story that will stay with me for a long time. The accounts mirror many those that have been shared by my former Amish friends. The message of grace is so strong in this book, it touched my heart. What the Eash’s longed for, and searched for, was a simple grace–the kind only Jesus could give.

Dee Yoder

This is the true story of Ora-Jay and Irene Eash, Amish farmers from northwest Montana whose lives changed in an instant when a semi-truck struck the family buggy, killing their two young daughters.

After the accident, the couple turned to their Amish community for comfort, but they remained haunted by the thought that they might not see their girls again in heaven. Would their deeds be good enough? Eventually Ora-Jay and Irene learned that grace—not works—was enough to ensure their place in eternity. But with that knowledge came the realization that they could no longer live in an Amish community that didn’t share this precious belief. Could they sever their connection to the Amish family they loved?

This is the story of their journey to the hope that is heaven, a hope stronger than the loss of children, family, and a way of life. Fans of Amish fiction will appreciate such a real-life look into the Amish community, co-written by bestselling author Tricia Goyer, and readers of all kinds will resonate with this tale of courage, resilience, and the redemption found in the grace of Jesus.

Smarter Notes: 9 Steps to Highly Effective Study Notes

Smarter Notes: 9 Steps to Highly Effective Study Notes

Richard Glenn

I loved author’s style of writing. It always kept me turning the pages in hope that I will learn something new, and I was not left disappointed.

Mohit A.

Does taking notes feel like herding cats?

It did to me.

I was THAT guy. You know the one. The guy frantically trying to write down every single little thing the professor said. I was absolutely terrified of missing even the smallest thing.

What if it was on the test?

What if I needed it for a paper?

What if there was a pop quiz?

What if I was studying and couldn’t remember something?

I was that guy. And to me, every class period felt like a desperate attempt to write down everything I was hearing instead of anything even remotely close to learning.

I literally felt like I was a court reporter trying frantically to organize all the facts as they were being thrown at me 100mph. And it was very, very stressful (not to mention a great way to get early onset carpal tunnel syndrome).

It wasn’t until much later that I realized something: I wasn’t taking notes. I was transcribing my classes.

And let me tell you… when you’re preparing for a test, having a great, organized set of notes is much, much more useful than having dozens of pages of transcribed lectures—by an order of magnitude.

So, I set out to do what I did with every area of my study habits around that time: develop a great system.

And honestly, it wasn’t that easy. I knew how to write papers pretty well. And I could read okay. But taking notes was a totally different beast. There are just so many skills involved: listening, organizing mental information, memory, speed-writing, asking good question, and quite a few more.

So it took me a while. In the end, though, I landed on a set of techniques that helped me take ultra-efficient notes and drastically increase my grades.

Later, when I was actually TEACHING college classes, I passed these same techniques along to my students (which, by the way, was when I really figured out that taking notes was a major pain point for a lot of people).

So, I figured it’d be a good subject for a book, which is what you’re looking at now.

Here’s what you’ll learn…

All about the Great Note-Taking Myth and why it’s a load of crap

How to leverage the 5 most popular note-taking systems

How to deploy memory hacks to your advantage

How to tailor your notes to your specific learning style

How to properly execute pre-note preparation strategies

How to actually put that pen to paper and knock out some great notes

Some things never change . . . and some things change you forever.

Sarah Cooley has come home to Last Chance, New Mexico, for one reason–because it doesn’t change. After a relationship gone bad with a man who wanted to change everything about her, Sarah is more than ready for the town whose motto may as well be, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Chris Reed, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to spark some change in the little town. As the new owner of the Dip ‘n’ Dine, he’s shaking things up to draw folks from all over the Southwest into his restaurant.

As it turns out, the winds of change are blowing into Last Chance–just not in the ways that Sarah or Chris might expect.

With the same evocative writing and charming characters that won fans for her debut novel, Cathleen Armstrong invites you back to Last Chance for a heartwarming, romantic story of two people navigating the twists and turns of life in a small town.
