A Work in Progress: A New Adult Contemporary Christian Romance Novel (The Faith Series, Book 1)

A Work in Progress: A New Adult Contemporary Christian Romance Novel (The Faith Series, Book 1)

Staci Stallings

Have you ever read a book that you can read over and over again? A work in progress is one such book. Staci Stallings weaved an amazing story with every single word that was written. There are real lessons within these pages that make you aspire to become a better human being.

rhonda aberdeen

Rebecca Avery has never been one of “them”—the popular kids, the beautiful people. With less than fashion-plate looks and an off-beat, quirky style to living life, she has been relegated to finding “alone” activities to fill her time throughout high school. Unfortunately, college hasn’t changed that. Then she meets Eric Barnett, a nice guy who seems a little quirky himself. The only problem is, he’s in love with her roommate—one of the truly beautiful people. When Rebecca finds herself falling for him, she must find a way to break out of her shell or risk losing him forever. Who will win out in this mixed up jumble of feelings and loyalties?

Eric Barnett is drifting through college. Unlike his friends, he doesn’t have a path to relentlessly pursue. In fact, he often feels like the tag-along in a life that’s unfolding without him. Then he meets Rebecca Avery’s roommate who seems like she will finally give him what he most wants—credibility with his friends. However, when the roommate proves to be less-than-into-him, can Eric see past the outward appearance to find love with Rebecca?

A new adult college romance novel, “A Work in Progress,” gives new adult meaning to the genre of Contemporary Christian Romance. So many college students see only the world’s options presented in their romance novels, “A Work in Progress” shows an alternative—good, clean romance that makes you think about life differently. This is new adult fiction that will inspire readers to reach for more than what the world says is possible!

“Staci Stallings is Christian Romance at its best!”

“No, man, I didn’t blow you off,” Eric said as he approached the desk behind Rebecca. “I had a lot of stuff to get done.”

“Like what? More studying?” spike-haired guy asked.

“Is that so hard to believe?”

“From you? Yeah.” Spike-haired guy laughed in a way that made Rebecca want to turn around and knock his head off his shoulders. How dare he make fun of Eric.

“I needed to meet with Diane,” Eric said. “She was going to help me with sign language.”

“At ten o’clock on a Saturday night?”

“It was the only time she could meet.”

Rebecca’s eyes narrowed in confusion. Saturday night?

“Well, the party was just getting started. You could’ve invited her over.”

“We studied at the Student Union it was quieter there.”

Saturday night he was playing pool—alone, Rebecca thought as she listened.

“Sign language?” spike-headed guy asked as if that was akin to cleaning cesspools.

“Yeah.”

“Well, what time did she go home?”

Clinging to every word, Rebecca pressed back against the chair, waiting to hear the answer.

“About 11:15. The place was a madhouse.”

“I thought you said it was quieter.”

“Oh, yeah. Well…”

Rebecca heard the stumble.

“It was, but then a ton of people showed up, so we decided to pack it in for the night.”

“Uh-huh,” spike-haired guy said. “And where did you go after that?”

“She went home, and I went home.” Eric’s story paused. “I know. Wonderful night, but she’s not my type anyway. She’s all interested in her studies. Glasses, books, notebooks—you know the type. Not the kind of girl I’m looking for.”

Unconsciously Rebecca pushed her glasses up as her heart dropped.

“Yeah,” spike-haired guy said. “Seems like I remember that.”

Rebecca’s attention never wavered from the seat behind her. Eric was obviously lying. Yes, he was at the Student Union, but there was no girl. Was there? Fighting with her brain to recall every last detail of the non-encounter, Rebecca examined the clock in her mind. Although she couldn’t clearly remember the time they had left, it was 11:25 when she and Holly got back to their room.

How far was it from the Student Union to her dorm? Five minutes? Ten? But even so, his line about studying the rest of the time was totally bogus. And although she knew she shouldn’t care, one thought kept working its way into her brain. Why was he lying?

Farmstead Feast: Spring: Delicious, in-season recipes by the author of The Weekend Homesteader

Farmstead Feast: Spring: Delicious, in-season recipes by the author of The Weekend Homesteader

Anna Hess

The best part about a cookbook like this is how it’s geared towards eating with the season with produce from local areas or even your own garden. I don’t have a big freezer to store my vegetables so books like this that help you get creative with them are great.

Robert L Hull

Delicious in-season recipes by the author of The Weekend Homesteader!

Did you ever join a CSA and then drown in bushels of kale and sweet potatoes? Or perhaps you’re a homesteader who finally plucked up your courage and learned to pluck a chicken…then couldn’t figure out how to serve meat that is more flavorful, but also tougher, than grocery-store offerings.

Perhaps you’d like to eat seasonally in order to cut back on your carbon footprint or to save some cash. Or maybe you were drawn to homegrown produce after converting over to a paleo diet and learning that cabbages and butternut squash from your garden are easy to substitute into recipes that called for pasta.

No matter where your personal food journey has taken you, Farmstead Feast will introduce you to the ever-changing delicacies of a menu that reflects the uniqueness of each season of the year. In this spring edition, you’ll learn to wildcraft dandelions and wild garlic, will explore four unique and delicious recipes to use up spring’s bountiful eggs, and will follow maple and birch syrup from the tree to the table.

Then, in the end, when your family doesn’t realize that there’s anything special about these recipes beyond their splendid flavor…that’s when you’ve really won the food battle and served a farmstead feast!

Big Questions from Little People: And Simple Answers from Great Minds

Big Questions from Little People: And Simple Answers from Great Minds

Gemma Elwin Harris

I strongly recommend this book for every parent who wants to deepen their relationship with their child while stretching the bounds of the child’s (and often the parent’s) intellect.

Dave Lakhani

In the spirit of Schott’s Miscellany, The Magic of Reality, and The Dangerous Book for Boys comes Can a Bee Sting a Bee?—a smart, illuminating, essential, and utterly delightful handbook for perplexed parents and their curious children. Author Gemma Elwin Harris has lovingly compiled weighty questions from precocious grade school children—queries that have long dumbfounded even intelligent adults—and she’s gathered together a notable crew of scientists, specialists, philosophers, and writers to answer them.

Authors Mary Roach and Phillip Pullman, evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, chef Gordon Ramsay, adventurist Bear Gryllis, and linguist Noam Chomsky are among the top experts responding to the Big Questions from Little People, (“Do animals have feelings?”, “Why can’t I tickle myself?”, “Who is God?”) with well-known comedians, columnists, and raconteurs offering hilarious alternative answers. Miles above your average general knowledge and trivia collections, this charming compendium is a book fans of the E.H. Gombrich classic, A Little History of the World, will adore.

Bringing Out the Best in Your Wife: Encourage Your Spouse and Experience the Relationship You’ve Always Wanted

H. Norman Wright

Well written, lots of good tips about how to be a good Christian husband, especially enjoyed the romance tips! loved how it also took a biblical approach. Mr wright I’m sure was a very good husband.

Tom Watson

Most “relationship books” are written for women, but women aren’t the only ones who want happy, enduring marriages. Bringing Out the Best in Your Wife is written with men in mind, men who want to build satisfying relationships but just aren’t sure how. The secret, Dr. H. Norman Wright reveals, is mutual affirmation. But first, husbands have to understand that women receive respect and encouragement differently than men. When husbands discover how to speak the language of love their wives understand, relationships are taken to a whole new level. Dr. Wright lays out biblical and practical ways husbands can bring out the best in their wives. Readers will find firsthand testimonies from men just like them, who share the daily frustrations of living with a person so different from themselves. They may also be surprised by what they learn about women from the personal stories told by wives striving to make their marriages work. Each step toward a healthy, satisfying relationship is presented with a real-life situation that men will find immediately familiar. And as readers take each successive step, they will see the positive impact that encouragement, prayer, romance, and inspiration have on the marriage they’ve always wanted.

H. Norman Wright

I can’t say enough good things about this book. An eye opener and very practical to live by. I love it so much I’m reading it a second time. I’ve already lent this book out and they loved it too.

Allison Ball

Bookstore shelves are full of titles that tell women how to get what they want out of their man. But affectionate, long-lasting relationships thrive when the tables are turned–when each spouse focuses on giving, not getting. Bringing Out the Best in Your Husband delivers biblical and practical proven ways to encourage the man in every reader’s life. This new book from bestselling author H. Norman Wright is packed with stories from wives struggling to understand their husbands’ needs and desires; every woman will see herself and her marriage reflected in these deeply personal accounts. Readers will also hear the other side of the story: Men share the ups and downs of their marriage experiences and reveal the secret longings of their hearts. Every principle is presented with a true-to-life story so that wives can see the effects of encouragement, prayer, romance, and inspiration on marriages just like theirs. Based on his experience counseling thousands of couples over more than 40 years, Dr. Wright shows how great an impact spouses have on one another and how to turn that impact into a loving, joy-filled marriage that stands the test of time.

Vannetta Chapman

I have read Vannetta Chapman’s non-mystery Amish books, but this was the first time for me reading one of her Amish mystery books. I for one am not much on reading mysteries but Vannetta Chapman has changed that for me. I look to read her Amish mystery books in the future.

Fit to Be Tied (The Sisters of Bethlehem Springs Book 2)

Robin Lee Hatcher

Robin Lee Hatcher’s second book in the Sister’s of Bethlehem Springs is even better than its’ predecessor, A Vote of Confidence. I literally read it in two hours and laughed…often.

P. Basham

It’s 1916, and Idaho rancher Cleo Arlington knows everything about horses but nothing about men. So when charged with transforming English aristocrat Sherwood Statham from playboy into cowboy, she’s totally disconcerted. So is Statham, who’s never encountered a woman succeeding in a “man’s world.” Their bumpy trot into romance is frustrating, exhilarating, and ultimately heartwarming.

The Beekeeper's Son (The Amish of Bee County)

The Beekeeper’s Son (The Amish of Bee County)

Kelly Irvin

I really enjoyed this book. It is about a girl named Deborah who falls in love with a man named Phineas who for a living takes cares of bees and sells honey. Phineas didn’t believe anyone could fall in love with him since he has scars on his face from an accident as a kid but Deborah sees past it and sees him for who he really is, a person she could spend the rest of his life with.

BRITLUVER20021

Sometimes it takes a barren landscape to see the beauty of God’s creation.

Phineas King knows better than to expect anything but shock and pity wherever he shows his face. Horribly scarred from the tragic accident that claimed his mother’s life, he chooses to keep his distance from everyone, focusing his time and energy on the bees his family raises. If no one sees him, no one can judge him. So why does he start finding excuses to seek out Deborah Lantz, the beautiful new arrival in town?

Deborah can’t get out of Bee County, Texas, soon enough. Once her mother and younger siblings are settled, she is on the first bus out of this dusty town. She is only waiting on the letter from Aaron, asking her to return to lush Tennessee to be his fraa. But that letter never comes. As she spends time getting to know Phineas—hoping to uncover the man beneath the scars—she begins to realize that she no longer minds that Aaron hasn’t sent for her.

As both Deborah and Phineas try to come to terms with lives that haven’t turned out the way they imagined, they discover that perhaps Gott’s plans for them are more extraordinary than they could have dreamed. But they need to let go of their own past sorrows and disappointments to find the joy and beauty that lies just ahead for them both.
