Miracles in Disguise (The Trampled Rose Series Book 1)

Michelle Lynn Brown

“Miracles In Disguise” has not only a great storyline, but outstanding characters, even down to a dog named David and a dead man that won’t seem to go away. It’s a simple book, with few characters, and not a lot of dribble. I loved that!

Spencer's Mountain

Spencer’s Mountain

Earl Hamner Jr.

This book was enjoyable to read and entertaining. I really couldn’t help visualizing the tv family we all know… I guess that’s what a well known classic show will do to you.

T. Thompson

High up on a mountain, young Clay-Boy Spencer joins his father and eight uncles to hunt the mythical white deer. What he finds on the mountainside changes his life—and marks him for a special destiny. Years later, Clay-Boy is the first in his family to get the chance to go to college; but success as an adult is much more complicated and bittersweet than the legendary success of Clay-Boy’s childhood quest.

A heartwarming novel of love, family, and hope, Spencer’s Mountain inspired the popular television show The Waltons, which starred Richard Thomas, Andrew Duggan, and Patricia Neal, and ran for nine years between 1972 and 1981. More than fifty years after its publication, this novel still has the power to inspire and move readers all over the world.

About the Author

Born in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge mountains, Earl Hamner, Jr., is an award-winning author, screenplay writer, and producer of several well-known teleplays and television series. He got his big break writing episodes for The Twilight Zone, including the popular “You Drive.” His most well-known television series is The Waltons, which is based on his best-selling stories Spencer’s Mountain and The Homecoming. Both novels were inspired by his own childhood.

Six Hours One Friday: Living in the Power of the Cross (The Bestseller Collection Book 5)

Max Lucado

I loved this book and didn’t want to put it down as I read it. I was so disappointed when I was done with the book. Max Lucado has a way of reaching people as he writes. It’s almost like he is talking to you – a friend. You can FEEL his words and HEAR his words. I enjoyed this book very much.

Faith

Does life feel futile? Doesn’t have to.

Do some of your failures seem fatal? They aren’t.

And your death. Does the grave appear to be the final stop? According to Christ, your death is just the start of the something great.

There is a truth greater than all the losses and sorrows of life. And it can be discovered in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In Six Hours One Friday, Max Lucado delves into the meaning of Jesus’ last hours on the cross. Through his death, your life has purpose and meaning. You are forgiven and loved by a Savior who died for you. And an empty tomb proclaims that death does not have the final word.

“Peace where there should be pain. Confidence in the midst of crisis. Hope defying despair. Does death have the last word? I can see Jesus wink as he gives the answer, Not on your life.”

No Wonder They Call Him the Savior: Experiencing the Truth of the Cross (The Bestseller Collection Book 4)

Max Lucado

What an awesome work of art. The telling of Christs life and the comparison to our lives today was riviting. This is a book that won’t stay on your shelf long because you’ll want to lend it out to all of your friends, Christian or otherwise.

Elizabeth

The cross.

It rests on the time line of history. Like a compelling diamond …

Its tragedy summons all the sufferers …

Its absurdity attracts all cynics …

Its hope lures all searchers.

Far more than a gold-plated symbol of religious belief, the cross is the centerpiece of the Christian faith — the meeting place of time and eternity. Where God and man encounter each other.

Max Lucado takes you through the drama of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ — bringing to life Peter’s denial, Pilate’s hesitancy, and John’s loyalty. Relive the events leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion, from the foggy garden of Gethsemane to the incandescent room of the resurrection.

No Wonder They Call Him the Savior leads you up the hill of mankind’s highest hope and reminds you why he deserves to be called our Savior.

Just Give Me Jesus

Just Give Me Jesus

Anne Graham Lotz

This is a great book for Christians and non-Christians! I finished it and immediately started it again. Ms. Lotz uses the Gospel of John to help us gain insights about Jesus. The book really convicted me to establish a daily time of prayer, study and meditation with Jesus. It is clear Ms. Lotz is a very gifted Bible teacher! God Bless Her

BW in Alabama

How did the apostle John know that, two thousand years after he lived, your life would need a fresh touch from God?

How did John know that, at the beginning of a new millennium,

our lives would be so busy,

our focus so divided,

our bodies so tired,

our minds so bombarded,

our families so attacked,

our relationships so strained,

our churches so programmed . . .

that we would be desperate for the simplicity and the purity, the freedom and the fulfillment of a life lived in Jesus’ name?

John probably didn’t know. But God did. That’s why He gives us Jesus! And that’s why, as Anne Graham Lotz reveals, John’s eyewitness account of Jesus’ life is unmistakably relevant to your life today. The same Jesus who turned water into wine is the One who provides for your needs at this very moment. Enter into His life and find your soul refreshed with Living Water.

This new edition of Just Give Me Jesus contains an in-depth devotional guide to help you explore the words of John in a personal and practical way, either on your own or in a group. You’ll find inspiration and revelation as you study the Scripture more closely and record your reflections in space provided at the back of the book.

Think Like a Freak: The Authors of Freakonomics Offer to Retrain Your Brain

Think Like a Freak: The Authors of Freakonomics Offer to Retrain Your Brain

Steven D. Levitt

, I really enjoyed reading this book. The way that the writers can intertwine different stories to make valid points is remarkable. It really does a good job of proving by observation how some things in life seem irrational, but ultimately make a lot of sense.

Guyzen

The New York Times bestselling Freakonomics changed the way we see the world, exposing the hidden side of just about everything. Then came SuperFreakonomics, a documentary film, an award-winning podcast, and more.

Now, with Think Like a Freak, Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner have written their most revolutionary book yet. With their trademark blend of captivating storytelling and unconventional analysis, they take us inside their thought process and teach us all to think a bit more productively, more creatively, more rationally—to think, that is, like a Freak.

Levitt and Dubner offer a blueprint for an entirely new way to solve problems, whether your interest lies in minor lifehacks or major global reforms. As always, no topic is off-limits. They range from business to philanthropy to sports to politics, all with the goal of retraining your brain. Along the way, you’ll learn the secrets of a Japanese hot-dog-eating champion, the reason an Australian doctor swallowed a batch of dangerous bacteria, and why Nigerian e-mail scammers make a point of saying they’re from Nigeria.

Some of the steps toward thinking like a Freak:

First, put away your moral compass—because it’s hard to see a problem clearly if you’ve already decided what to do about it.
Learn to say “I don’t know”—for until you can admit what you don’t yet know, it’s virtually impossible to learn what you need to.
Think like a child—because you’ll come up with better ideas and ask better questions.
Take a master class in incentives—because for better or worse, incentives rule our world.
Learn to persuade people who don’t want to be persuaded—because being right is rarely enough to carry the day.
Learn to appreciate the upside of quitting—because you can’t solve tomorrow’s problem if you aren’t willing to abandon today’s dud.

Levitt and Dubner plainly see the world like no one else. Now you can too. Never before have such iconoclastic thinkers been so revealing—and so much fun to read.

The Gift of Fear

The Gift of Fear

Gavin de Becker

Super book. Any book written by Gavin de Becker is top notch. This is a confidence-boosting read, rather than a fear-mongering one. If you get this and enjoy it I would recommend you also buy “Protecting the Gift” especially if you have kids and worry about them; there’s lots of extremely good advice in it about protecting yourself and your kids.

Mary

A Special Kindle Edition of The Gift of Fear, with a new Foreword by the author.

A stranger in a deserted parking lot offers to help carry a woman’s groceries. Is he a good Samaritan or is he after something else? A fired employee says “You’ll be sorry.” Will he return with a gun? After their first date, a man tells a woman it is their “destiny” to be married. What will he do when she won’t see him again? A mother has an uneasy feeling about the nice babysitter she’s just hired. Should she not go to work today?

These days, no one in America feels immune to violence. But now, in this extraordinary groundbreaking book, the nation’s leading expert on predicting violent behavior unlocks the puzzle of human violence and shows that, like every creature on earth, we have within us the ability to predict the harm others might do us and get out of its way. Contrary to popular myth, human violence almost always has a discernible motive and is preceded by clear warning signs.

Through dozens of compelling examples from his own career, Gavin de Becker teaches us how to read the signs, using our most basic but often most discounted survival skill – our intuition. The Gift of Fear is a remarkable, unique combination of practical guidance on leading a safer life and profound insight into human behavior.

In This Series:
Book 1: Off the Grid
Book 2: In Plain View (Coming soon)

About the Author.
Ruth Hartzler’s father was from generations of what people refer to as “Closed Open” or “Gospel Hall” Brethren. Ruth’s mother, a Southern Baptist, had years of struggle adapting to the cultural differences, and always cut her hair, which was a continual concern to Ruth’s father’s family. Ruth was raised strictly Brethren and from birth attended three meetings every Sunday at the Gospel Hall, the Wednesday night meeting, and the yearly “Conference,” until she left the Brethren at the age of twenty one. Ruth still has close friends in the Brethren, as well as the Amish, both groups descending from Anabaptists. Ruth’s family had electricity, but not television, radio, or magazines, and they had plain cars. Make up, bright or fashionable clothes, and hair cutting were not permitted for women. Women had to wear hats in meetings (what others would call church meetings) but not elsewhere. The word “church” was never used and there were no bishops or ministers. All baptized men were able to speak (preach, or give out a hymn) spontaneously at meetings. Musical instruments were forbidden, with the exception of the traditional pump organ which was allowed only if played in the home for hymn music. Even so, singing of hymns in accompaniment was forbidden.
Ruth Hartzler is a widow with one adult child and two grandchildren. She lives alone with her Yorkshire Terrier and two cats. She is a retired middle school teacher and enjoys quilting, reading, and writing.
