Provence Food and Wine: The Art of Living

Provence Food and Wine: The Art of Living

François Millo

A few days ago I received a much anticipated book. Not just any ordinary book for I would not order one of those. But a book I felt would stimulate my desire to experience a new cuisine, a new wine, new people. I was not disappointed.

Harold D Partain

Provence, the beautiful region that sits at the scenic crossroads of southern France, the Italian Alps, and the Mediterranean, has long been an area of historical import and distinct culture. It was the first Roman colony beyond Italy and serves as a modern-day commercial hub and resort area. Above all else, Provence is known as a producer of some of the finest food and wine France has to offer, with a cuisine that emphasizes healthful ingredients such as olive oil, fresh vegetables, Mediterranean seafood, as well as dry, aromatic rosé.

Provence Food & Wine is one of the only English-language books available on the cuisine, wine, and sights of this stunning Mediterranean enclave on the southern coast of France. Packed with 47 traditional Provencal recipes, all of which emphasize the incredibly popular and healthy Mediterranean diet, Provence Food & Wine also provides detailed information on regional wines, most notably rosé. This is the most famous wine of Provence and has made great strides in the US: sales of Provence rosé increased by 40% in 2012 with the trend continuing into 2013. Readers will be able to learn about pairing between wine and food, as Todorovska and Millo expertly explain what to look for and where to get these wines outside of Europe.

Full-color photography shows off all of these dishes, as well as the dazzling sights of the region’s lush interior, sparkling coastline, and breathtaking vistas. Beyond its use as a cookbook and wine-pairing guide, Provence Food & Wine will also be a resource for travelers on how to have the complete art de vivre experience.

Provence Food & Wine is the third cookbook about the hidden gems of regional European cuisine by Viktorija Todorovska, who trained at the prestigious Florentine culinary academy Apicius and owns the food, wine, and travel company Oliva Cooking. Her books have been critically acclaimed for their simple recipes, straightforward advice, and unique yet accessible ingredients. François Millo is the author of several books on the foods and wines of Provence, including a book for the Brazilian market. He is also an acclaimed photographer, capturing the spirit of Provence, its landscapes, and its people. The blend of French, Italian, North African, and Mediterranean flavors brings readers on a tasting tour of this rich, historical land, and there is no better guide than the charming personalities of Viktorija Todorovska and François Millo.

Chosen (Leaving Bennet Behind Book 1)

Chosen (Leaving Bennet Behind Book 1)

Sarah Johnson

This was a very enjoyable book. It didn’t have the misunderstandings most P&P books have, but it is a sweet story. The Bennett’s are a more calm and loving family. Carolyn is her normal self but Louisa is more sensible and kind. Hurst is sober in this book. Get a sample and see what you think!

Jan Payton

The Bennet family changed dramatically when Mr Bennet nearly lost his life. The rekindled love between him and his wife encouraged a unifying bond amongst their five daughters. Their story unfolds as each eligible young lady walks down the aisle, taking her husband’s hand and forever leaving the name of Bennet behind.

Fitzwilliam Darcy was a tormented man. His sister’s recent accident and the lifelong difficulties she was now to face plagued him. While visiting his friend, Darcy crosses paths with a young lady. He is immediately captivated and soon seeks out an introduction and dance with Elizabeth Bennet. Could it be that his parents, though they are no longer with him, are leading him right to the arms of a family who can help both he and his sister heal from all they have suffered? Will the instant connection Darcy and Elizabeth both feel for each other be able to weather the storms that come when a secret past connection is revealed?

Good News for Anxious Christians: Ten Practical Things You Don't Have to Do

Good News for Anxious Christians: Ten Practical Things You Don’t Have to Do

Phillip Cary

BookTestimonial

TestimonialAuthor

10 Things You Don’t Have to Do to Be Close to God

Like a succession of failed diet regimens, the much-touted techniques that are supposed to bring us closer to God “in our hearts” can instead make us feel anxious, frustrated, and overwhelmed. Phillip Cary explains that discipleship is a gradual, long-term process that comes through the Bible experienced in Christian community, not a to-do list designed to help us live the Christian life “right.” He covers ten things we don’t have to do to be close to God, skillfully unpacking the riches of traditional Christian spirituality to bring the real good news to Christians of all ages.

“Yes! No! Whoa! There are so many terrific, alarming, insightful zingers in this book that I agreed, disagreed and, most of all, had to think about something on every page. Graceful and liberating, it is a word of wisdom and hope that just might convince anxious Christians that the gospel really is better news than we’ve yet imagined.”–Andy Crouch, senior editor, Christianity Today International; author, Culture Making: Recovering Our Creative Calling

“Evangelicals worry about lots of things, including the state of our spiritual health. Phil Cary is worried too: worried that evangelicals are suffering needlessly because they have imbibed a consumerist spirituality that offers much but provides little. Phil’s prescription for spiritual indigestion? A turning away from the self to the one who continually speaks a healing, saving word to us, Christ himself. This is, quite frankly, one of the best books I’ve read on the spiritual life over the past twenty-five years. I heartily recommend it.”–Christopher A. Hall, chancellor, Eastern University

“Phillip Cary has clearly and convincingly explained why so many evangelicals are anxious and believe they may be failing at faith. I highly recommend this book to my fellow Christian counselors and self-doubting Christians because Cary richly explains the comforting good news of our identity in Christ. He thus provides a solid theological basis for correcting many deeply distorted beliefs about the self which propagate anxiety. This book provides the best treatment of this subject that I have ever read.”–Christopher Doriani, licensed clinical social worker

Finding Your Heart's Desire: Ambition, Motivation and True Success

Finding Your Heart’s Desire: Ambition, Motivation and True Success

R. T. Kendall

For those on either end of the spectrum, Finding Your Heart’s Desire will help you to better see ambition through God’s eyes, and to adjust accordingly.

Carl Simmons

Is it wrong to be ambitious? To want to succeed? To strive for earthly significance?

With warmth, humor and candor, beloved author R. T. Kendall explores the life-changing concept that ambition might actually be a gift.

On this journey of self-discovery, you’ll learn that ambition is not always something you have to overcome in order to serve God. Rather, it can be one of the primary ways God invites us to be part of His story.

Discover honor and significance as God designed them to be, and experience praise that He alone can give.

“Finally, a book about ambition based on godly principles. R. T. Kendall does it again with his insight into what should motivate us to ‘win the gold.'” –Joni Lamb, co-founder and vice president, Daystar Television Network

“Here is R. T. Kendall in good form: fresh, original, wandering into all the ins and outs of his subject, sometimes provocative, always thought-provoking, sometimes amusing, but always with holiness. Teaching at its best.” –Dr. Michael Eaton, Chrisco Fellowship of Churches; co-pastor, Chrisco Central Church, Nairobi, Kenya

“Motivated by a desire for readers to really know and feel the approval and joy that can only come from God, Finding Your Heart’s Desire is also an effort to create an awareness of our heart aspirations. Kendall draws from his vast experiences, biblical truths, and the wisdom of so many before him to pen this book. It focuses on causing readers to really think through their core ambitions and motives, with a desire of leading them to understand others better, and to understand their position before God.
This is truly a unique book with a distinct perspective to offer on the subject of God-centered ambition and motivation.” –CBA Retailers+Resources

Women at the Cross: Experiencing the Wonder and Mystery of Christ’s Love

Linda Lesniewski

Love this author. This was a great Bible study leading up to Easter.

Sheila Smith

Rediscovering the women who witnessed the crucifixion

Seven women witnessed one of the most important moments of history. Who were the extraordinary women who followed Christ to Calvary? Why did they come? Why did they stay? What did they think and feel? And what can women of the 21st century learn from them?

With Women at the Cross, Linda Lesniewski examines a powerful and significant, yet often unexplored, dimension of Christ’s ministry–the devotion, loyalty, and servanthood of the women who came, who stayed, and who continue to come even today. Their inspiring stories will strengthen your faith and encourage you in your relationship with Christ.

“Linda Lesniewski has given us a book with a powerful emotional punch. It is a very moving account of a genuine reaction to Christ.”–T. W. Hunt, speaker; author, The Mind of Christ

“Christ had twelve disciples and only one of them showed up for the most important event in history. Yet seven women were there through every agonizing moment of the greatest story ever told. When Linda shared her notes with me a few years ago, I knew she had a great book in her. What a book it is!”–Anne Murchison, speaker; author, Milk for Babes

Linda Lesniewski is women’s minister at Green Acres Baptist Church in Texas, where she leads a ministry that reaches over 3,000 women. She is a popular leadership speaker and a trainer for LifeWay Christian Resources. Lesniewski is the author of Connecting Women and has been a contributing author to other works.

I love the content. It is well written, fun and informative. For me, what keeps me from a 5 star rating is the book itself (size) is a little hard to handle and the lack of pictures or illustrations. The few images that look like clip art just doesn’t do it for me, but still worth the price. I bought a second copy as a gift.

Sweet Mercy

Sweet Mercy

Ann Tatlock

Sweet Mercy by Ann Tatlock is a well written novel about a young lady in the midst of entering adulthood. Eve is faced with the knowledge that someone she loves is a criminal and not turning him would make her a criminal, too. As an adolescent, she sees everything in black and white. The grayness of the situation confuses her, and she is forced to re-evaluate everything she has believed about right and wrong.

R. Sattazahn

Stunning coming-of-age drama set during the Great Depression and Prohibition

When Eve Marryat’s father is laid off from the Ford Motor Company in 1931, he is forced to support his family by leaving St. Paul, Minnesota, and moving back to his Ohio roots. Eve’s uncle Cyrus has invited the family to live and work at his Marryat Island Ballroom and Lodge.

Eve can’t wait to leave St. Paul, a notorious haven for gangsters. At seventeen, she considers her family to be “good people,” not lawbreakers like so many in her neighborhood. Thrilled to be moving to a “safe haven,” Eve soon forms an unlikely friendship with a strange young man named Link, blissfully unaware that her uncle’s lodge is anything but what it seems.

When the reality of her situation finally becomes clear, Eve is faced with a dilemma. Does she dare risk everything by exposing the man whose love and generosity is keeping her family from ruin? And when things turn dangerous, can she trust Link in spite of appearances?

“In this coming-of-age novel, Christy winner Tatlock manages to offer readers an eclectic mixture of suspense and romance combined with deeply rooted historical elements… [She] presents endearing but flawed characters who prompt readers to explore their own bases for judgment and ethical criticism.” –Publishers Weekly

“Lush physical descriptions offer a pleasing backdrop to this tale of mystery and romance that focuses on the necessity of love and forgiveness as well as the magnitude of God’s mercy.” –RT Book Reviews

An Unexpected Family is a captivating story about two people drawn together through their adopted children. This story is based on the real life “Orphan Trains” of the 1800’s. TR

This novella is the first of a new series based on a group of children from the Children’s Aid Society, a New York orphanage who travel on an orphan train to Texas.
