The Zenbelly Cookbook: An Epicurean’s Guide to Paleo Cuisine
I’ve now made several things from this cookbook and I love it even more. The plantain shoestring fries add a great crunch to my chili or tortilla soup instead of regular tortillas, and the plantain tortilla is a great taco wrap (I was really, really tired of lettuce.). Her flavors are great, and I’m enjoying working my way through this book.
With a focus on quality ingredients, technique, and balancing flavors, this book will take the reader on a journey that will leave any feeling of restriction behind. With over 100 real food recipes, “The Zenbelly Cookbook” covers every course and occasion; from simple weeknight meals that can be made for the family in under 30 minutes, to elegant multiple course dinners that will impress any guest. “The Zenbelly Cookbook” will also offer entertainment tips such as: what can be made ahead, shortcuts that don’t sacrifice quality, and menu suggestions. The goal of “The Zenbelly Cookbook” is to make incredible, professional quality food accessible to the home cook. Each recipe has a beautiful image of the ingredients laid out, which helps the reader easily see the “before and after”. Written with the novice home cook in mind, it includes foolproof instructions. However, the flavor combinations and creativity of the book make it a great choice for the more seasoned cook, as well.

This book is a two month meal plan and yet also a fully functioning cookbook. These recipes all work together, and leftovers are designed to be used in a new recipe (if desired). No longer do you have to open a can of coconut milk and hope the reminder doesn’t go to waste, she accounts for so many of the little details like that.
Diagnosed with an autoimmune disease at twenty-two, Danielle Walker spent many years in and out of the hospital and on high dosages of debilitating medications before taking her health into her own hands and drastically changing her diet. In a true lemons-to-lemonade story, Danielle transformed her adversities into opportunities and created her wildly successful blog, Against All Grain, in an effort to help those in need eat well and feel great, without feeling deprived.
With recipes that make cooking for the grain-free family both easy and enjoyable, “Meals Made Simple” answers the age-old question: “What’s for dinner?” Danielle Walker takes the guesswork out of meal planning with eight weeks’ worth of dinner ideas, complete with full shopping lists and recipes for using up leftovers. Whether we’re moms, students, or business owners, at the end of the day we all want fresh, home-cooked meals that are easy to prepare. And we want lots of variety.
Preparing real foods can be time-consuming and monotonous, but Danielle brings both simplicity and creativity to the everyday meal with an enthusiasm for flavors and textures that are often lacking in easy weeknight dishes. “Meals Made Simple” includes a variety of slow cooker, one-pot, and thirty-minute meals, as well as ways to create entirely new dishes from leftovers.
As in her critically acclaimed first cookbook, “Against All Grain”, Danielle offers special “tidbits” to help ensure that your meals turn out picture-perfect. The vibrant flavors and colors in these grain-free dishes, like slow-cooked Pork Ragu, Beef Stroganoff, Peruvian-Style Chicken, Chicken and Rice Casserole, and Barbecue Salmon with Peach Salsa, add delight to any meal and put an end to all those nights of mundane grilled chicken and steamed vegetables. Even the desserts are quick to make, should a craving or a last-minute celebration arise.
Features include:
make-ahead options
8 weeks’ worth of dinner ideas
nutritional facts for every recipe
shopping lists for fast grocery runs
suggestions for how best to use leftovers
slow cooker, one-pot, and 30-minute recipes

The Paleo Slow Cooker: Healthy, Gluten-free Meals the Easy Way
Over the last couple of weeks, we have prepared several recipes from the cookbook. We have yet to be disappointed by the finished product
The Paleo diet has been the latest health movement, taking the low carb diet a step further by eliminating grains and legumes and eating only lean, grass-fed meat. In short they consume only what was available to ancient humans or cavemen. The theory says that by eating what human bodies were designed to eat, people will be healthier, have fewer illnesses and lose weight. In many cases, Paleo diet consumers are also fueling their P90X or Cross Fit exercise routines, the two most popular fitness regimes in the country. The health benefits have been supported by major studies. This is a popular trend much like the low carb diet. It is combined with the great bookselling topic of slow cooking. While the cavemen didn’t have slow cookers, they certainly used slow cooking techniques over fires which make the meals in this book one step closer to the origins and theory behind the diet. The delicious dishes are as homey as they are healthy—and ready when you are.

Corner Booth is a novel that is not to be missed. It is a unique story with such wonderful lessons throughout. It is beautifully written with such dynamic characters. It is definitely one of my too reads so far this year. A definite must read!!
What began as a random encounter becomes a weekly date in which Carlie chatters about her life to a silent lunchmate. Much about him interests her–his slightly Euro fashion sense, his commitment to the work he does as he eats his lunch week after week, and his evident attention to the running monologue she shares between bites of meals that he inevitably pays for.
Dean gets to know the woman across from him–looks forward to their lunches each week, learns valuable lessons about himself–but when the cafe is threatened, and then when she doesn’t show up one day, he suspects their unusual “friendship” means more to him than he imagined.

The Preacher’s Bride (Hearts of Faith Book #1)
That is the one word I would use to describe this book. Honestly, this was not a “normal” read for me. Needless to say, life has drama, sorrow and heaviness so generally I tend to lean towards light and easy reading to balance it all out. This book, however, would not let me put it down. It compelled me along, beckoning to me to continue reading.
Yet Elizabeth’s new role as nanny takes a dangerous turn when John’s boldness from the pulpit makes him a target of political and religious leaders. As the preacher’s enemies become desperate to silence him, they draw Elizabeth into a deadly web of deception. Finding herself in more danger than she ever bargained for, she’s more determined than ever to save the child–and man–she’s come to love.

I would definitely recommend this book and will be looking into more books by this author.
The residents worship her. Nurses step out of her way. Her colleagues respect and sometimes even fear her. But surgeon Tori Taylor never expected to end up on this side of the operating table.
Now she has a new heart. This life that was formerly controlled and predictable is now chaotic. Dr. Taylor had famously protected herself from love or commitment, but her walls are beginning to crumble.
And strangest of all, memories surface that will take her on a journey out of the operating room and into a murder investigation.
Where there once was a heart of stone, there is a heart of flesh. And there is no going back.

This book is anything but the formulaic romance novel This is a must read. I was sad to leave Abigail’s world, Loves Park, and the Book Nook – I’ll definitely be looking for more books from Courtney Walsh!

Not by Sight: A Novel (Ozark Mountain Trilogy Book 1)
This book had me on the edge of my seat! I couldn’t wait to find out how things were connected and if there would be a happy ending. Nice job, Kathy Herman!
It had to be Riley Jo. She was certain. . .wasn’t she? But when Abby Cummings tells her mother she thought she saw her sister at the store, her mother quickly dismisses the idea. After all, Riley Jo and their father had been missing for years. Presumably dead. Yet Abby cannot ignore her intuition. Telling her friend J. D., they investigate. But J. D. may know more about the disappearance than he’s telling, or even realizes. And as they work to uncover what happened, all they have to go on is blind faith. Will it be enough. . .especially considering what the truth might be?

The Governess of Highland Hall: A Novel (Edwardian Brides Book 1)
For the most part, I only read Christian fiction and Carrie Turansky did an excellent job with this historical romance book by combining faith and love together with unforgettable characters. I highly recommend this book!
Missionary Julia Foster loves working alongside her parents, ministering and caring for young girls in India. But when the family must return to England due to illness, she readily accepts the burden for her parents’ financial support. Taking on a job at Highland Hall as governess, she quickly finds that teaching her four privileged, ill-mannered charges at a grand estate is more challenging than expected, and she isn’t sure what to make of the estate’s preoccupied master, Sir William Ramsey.
Widowed and left to care for his two young children and his deceased cousin Randolph’s two teenage girls, William is consumed with saving the estate from the financial ruin. The last thing he needs is any distraction coming from the kindhearted-yet-determined governess who seems to be quietly transforming his household with her persuasive personality, vibrant prayer life, and strong faith.
While both are tending past wounds and guarding fragile secrets, Julia and William are determined to do what it takes to save their families—common ground that proves fertile for unexpected feelings. But will William choose Julia’s steadfast heart and faith over the wealth and power he needs to secure Highland Hall’s future?

It’s not unusual when reading a novel for the author to create characters you’ll fall in love with that you hate to see it end. In this case I am thrilled because not only has Ms. Gist written just that, but she is planning a sequel and one can only hope she writes fast!
Whether it’s riding bikes, catching snakes, or sliding down banisters, Essie Spreckelmeyer just can’t quite make herself into the ideal woman her hometown–and her mother–expect her to be. It’s going to take an extraordinary man to appreciate her joy and spontaneity–or so says her doting oil-man father.
Unfortunately such a man doesn’t appear to reside in Corsicana, Texas.
It’s 1894, the year of Essie’s thirtieth birthday, and she decides the Lord has more important things to do than provide her a husband. If she wants one, she needs to catch him herself. So, she writes down the names of all the eligible bachelors in her small Texas town, makes a list of their attributes and drawbacks, closes her eyes, twirls her finger, and … picks one.
But convincing the lucky “husband-to-be” is going to a bit more of a problem.
Join Deeanne Gist for another unforgettable tale and find out whether Essie’s plan to catch a husband succeeds or if she’s just Courting Trouble.

Love Finds You in Hershey, Pennsylvania
LOVE FINDS YOU IN HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA is a sweet contemporary in this line. I enjoyed reading a little about the town of Hershey, but there really isn’t as much town information included in this book as there are in other Love Finds You books.

Saint Patrick (Christian Encounters Series
This book is great for anyone who is interested in Patrick. Because it is quick read, it would be a good choice for a student biography review. And it is a wonderful encouragement to keep listening and following God. Patrick gave up everything, except his faith, to return to the land of his former enslavement. God rewarded him for his zeal. His boldness and dedication to reaching the ends of the earth for Christ is amazing, and it makes me wonder, who will be the Patrick for some countries in our time!
Patrick heeded the call. Both humble enough to minister to beggars and bold enough to confront kings, Patrick led the Irish through his brave and compassionate service into the Christian faith and baptized thousands. Separating the many myths from the facts, Jonathan Rogers weaves a wonder-filled tale of courage, barbarism, betrayal, and hope in God’s unceasing faithfulness. Countless miracles have been attributed to Saint Patrick, but perhaps one of the simplest and most amazing is that he won the hearts and souls of the same fierce and indomitable people who had enslaved him.
