Being Leaders: The Nature of Authentic Christian Leadership
Malphurs’ work is always top-notch. He is profound, yet not difficult to follow. He is deep, but never bogged down. I recommend this work highly to all Christian pastors.
Too many churches and parachurch groups are blindly operating under secular leadership principles and strategies. Concerned to counter this drift, leadership expert Aubrey Malphurs 1) articulates a working definition of a Christian leader and leadership based on Scripture and his own extensive research, and 2) challenges you to define and develop leadership in your ministry.
Malphurs then describes in detail the specific characteristics of leaders, such as commitment to Christ, caring, trustworthiness, a servant attitude, and having followers. Each chapter ends with helpful questions for reflection and discussion. Included in the appendices are several inventories that will help you assess your strengths and weaknesses in leadership as well as your leadership style, ideal ministry circumstances, and much more.
Aubrey Malphurs is professor of pastoral ministries at Dallas Theological Seminary. A nationally recognized expert on leadership issues, he is the author of a dozen books and the president of The Malphurs Group (www.malphursgroup.com), a training and consulting organization.

Love, Acceptance, and Forgiveness: Being Christian in a Non-Christian World
I sat down with this book and did not get up till I finished it. That is not amazing due to the few pages there are. The amazing part is how my faith, my worldview and my Chrisitanity was so radically changed by such a small book.

Rooted in Good Soil (Shapevine): Cultivating and Sustaining Authentic Discipleship
It stirred me to the core was very Good for me the compost was a good reminder the heat in compost burns up the weed seeds
Just like a fruitful tree, authentic faith is the result of careful tending, the passage of time, and good growing conditions. According to Jesus’s parable of the sower, true belief takes root in good soil. But how is this truth translated into changed lives? Pastor and farmer Tri Robinson invites you to cultivate a deep and lasting faith through this insightful exploration of Jesus’s parable. In a culture that seems enamored with quick fixes and superficial amusements, Rooted in Good Soil will show you a more intentional and fulfilling way to live.
“Tri Robinson helps me understand how God’s land, our life development, and the Lord’s ministry can be integrated. Like Jesus, he tells us stories that change our lives. I loved reading this book!” ―Dr. Joel C. Hunter, senior pastor of Northland, A Church Distributed, Longwood, Florida
“I want to become the ‘spiritual horticulturalist’ that Rooted in Good Soil describes. Tri’s vulnerability and experiences inspire me to more deeply surrender to Jesus. This is the real deal.” ―Dave Workman, pastor and author of The Outward-Focused Life
“I have liked and admired Tri Robinson for twenty years. In Rooted in Good Soil, he brings together the keen, curious, and sharp mind of a teacher; the wise experience of a farmer; the warm heart of a disciple; and the expert guidance of a veteran pastor. If you’re interested in how followership of Jesus really works, read this simple, enjoyable book.” ―Todd Hunter, founder of Churches for the Sake of Others; pastor of Holy Trinity Church, Costa Mesa, California
Tri Robinson is the founding pastor of Vineyard Boise Church. He is the author of Saving God’s Green Earth: Rediscovering the Church’s Responsibility to Environmental Stewardship and Small Footprint, Big Handprint: How to Live Simply and Love Extravagantly. Tri and his wife, Nancy, manage an eighty-acre farmstead at the base of Timber Butte, about an hour from Boise, Idaho.

The Pastor’s Family: Shepherding Your Family through the Challenges of Pastoral Ministry
This book challenges pastors to care first and best for their wives and children and it carefully draws upon biblical wisdom to allow them to do that very thing. It is a book I intend to read with Aileen and one I heartily recommend to every pastor.

Roxanne Henke is a master at writing stories about deep friendship and family, and each of her books has been filled with memorable characters that live on after you turn the last page.
In this delightful new novel, popular author Roxanne Henke (the Coming Home to Brewster series, Learning to Fly) strikes a familiar chord with readers as she introduces us to the Westin family and their “someday” plans.
Claire Westin has spent her adult life being a wife, mother, and college professor. The last thing she expects as she nears retirement status is to have a whole new career open before her.
Her husband, Jim, has spent his life growing his chain of grocery stores. He has a grand plan to restore an old Dodge Charger…someday when he retires. Someday soon, he hopes.
If his son Drew would only agree to take over the family business. Drew, however, has plans of his own. And Claire is busy climbing the ladder of her new career. She can’t bear the thought that she might have to say “no” to the exciting new opportunities she’s pursuing and simply sit around and watch her husband tinker on an old car.
What happens when plans collide? When dreams don’t materialize? How do you know when your work is done? Or is it ever?
On a Someday asks the big questions of life…and tries to answer them.

Just Beyond the Clouds: A Novel (Cody Gunner Book 2)
A very rewarding love story with three-dimensional characters that you can’t help but love
Still aching over his wife’s death, Cody Gunner can’t bear the thought of also letting go of his Down’s Syndrome brother, Carl Joseph. Cody wants his brother home, where he will be safe and cared for, not out on his own in a world that Cody knows all too well can be heartless and insecure. So when Carl Joseph’s teacher, Elle, begins championing his independence, she finds herself at odds with Cody. But even as these two battle it out, they can’t deny the instinctive connection they share, and Cody faces a crisis of the heart. What if Elle is the one woman who can teach Cody that love is still possible? If Cody can let go of his lingering anger, he might just see that sometimes the brightest hope of all lies just beyond the clouds.

All The Blue of Heaven (Colors of Faith Book 1)
It is very nice to find romances that are clean. This one is very Christian and clean. I liked it a lot. I’ve added Virginia Carmichael to my good author’s list.
This is the first book in the Colors of Faith, a Christian historical romance series by Virginia Carmichael. The next, Purple Like the West, will be released in September 2013.
Virginia was born near the Rocky Mountains and although she has traveled around the world, the wilds of Colorado run in her veins. A big fan of the wide open sky and all four seasons, she believes in embracing the small moments of everyday life. A home schooling mom of six young children who rarely wear shoes, those moments usually involve a lot of noise, a lot of mess, or a whole bunch of warm cookies. Virginia holds degrees in Linguistics and Religious Studies from the University of Oregon. She lives with her habanero-eating husband, Crusberto, who is her polar opposite in all things except faith. They’ve learned to speak in short-hand code and look forward to the day they can actually finish a sentence. In the meantime, Virginia thanks God for the laughter and abundance of hugs that fill her day as she plots her next book.

I won’t spoil The Secret of Us by revealing the ending, but it’s a poignant reminder to keep our dreams and love alive. The Secret of Us receives Novel Reviews’ highest recommendation – 5 stars.

As Donnie’s business thrives and their daughter, Stasha, plans her wedding, Laura longs for new possibilities. Could the dreams God planted in her heart years ago—like to become an artist—still be part of her purpose? Is there a new life of faith on the other side of this struggle?
This story about a woman’s longing for meaning will resonate with readers of all ages.

Ann Gabhart has done another fabulous job with the fourth book in her Shaker Series, The Gifted. I’ve only read one other book from the series, The Blessed, and while that one was good, I enjoyed The Gifted even more. And I never expected the bit of suspense and action that happened near the end–nice bonus that kept me glued to the pages.
Jessamine Brady has been in the Shaker Village for half her young life, but in spite of how she loves her sisters there, she struggles to conform to the strict rules. Instead she entertains dreams of the world outside. When Tristan Cooper seems to step out of those dreams to entice her into the forbidden realm beyond the Shaker Village, her life turns upside down.
Will Jessamine be able to survive the storms of the world? Or will she retreat back to the peace of Harmony Hill?

Very encouraging book. The stories motivate you to share your faith with everyone. Not to judge for yourself who would be open to Gods word or not. Easy read.

When God Goes to Starbucks: A Guide to Everyday Apologetics
I bought this book on a whim and was deeply touched by the message. GREAT book for those moments when you feel compelled to say something, but aren’t quite sure how to approach it.
What do you say when someone raises tough objections to the Christian worldview, like
•Why not just look out for yourself?
•Isn’t it okay to do whatever you want as long as you don’t hurt anyone?
•Is it ever okay to lie?
•Aren’t some people born gay?
•Do people really believe miracles happen?
•Aren’t the Bible’s holy wars just like Islamic Jihad?
In When God Goes to Starbucks, renowned apologetics expert Paul Copan tackles these and other vexing questions. He offers wise and relevant answers that will not only help you clarify your own beliefs but empower you to articulate those beliefs to others.
“Classic Copan: thoughtful, respectful, well-reasoned, and ultimately persuasive. Open it up, grab a cup of coffee, and join the conversation!”–Lee Strobel, author, The Case for Christ and The Case for the Real Jesus
“If you want sound apologetics made relevant–here it is! Copan provides clear, orthodox, practical, accessible, and necessary answers to questions that stymie seekers and galvanize skeptics against historic Christianity.”–Hank Hanegraaff, president, Christian Research Institute; host, Bible Answer Man broadcast
“I love this book. Its arguments–careful, logical, and most of all fair-minded–speak eloquently in our sound-bite world.”–David K. Clark, lead pastor, Faith Covenant Church; professor of theology, Bethel Seminary

A Subtle Grace (O’Donovan Family, Book 2)
There is plenty to love about this beautiful novel, including the graceful flow of the story, the genuine characters, the description, the rich historical detail, the joyous moments, and the frightening ones.
At 19, Kathleen (oldest daughter) is unmarried with no prospects. Fearing the lonely fate of an old maid, her impatience leads to an infatuation with the first man who shows interest. The suave, handsome son of the local police chief seems a perfect match. But will her impulsive manner prevent her from recognizing her true beloved? A disturbing turn of events brings a dark shadow that threatens the life-long happiness she desires.
Dr. Luke Peterson (the family’s new physician) also makes quite an impression on Kathleen. His affection for her leads him to startling revelations: about Kathleen, about his practice and, most importantly, about himself.
Will (oldest son) believes God may be calling him to a religious vocation. Eventually, he discovers the hidden circumstances of his humble beginnings compelling him to embark on a pilgrimage to Rome.
(Note: Although “A Subtle Grace” is a sequel, it can be read as a stand alone book, independently of the first book in the series.)

“A Subtle Grace is a novel to stir your heart, your emotions, and your soul. I highly recommend it!”
Therese Heckenkamp, award-winning author, Frozen Footprints
