Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey: The Lost Legacy of Highclere Castle
Downton fans interested in how the real-life place where the series is filmed actually operated during roughly the same time period will enjoy it. The photos are marvelous. A family tree from, at least, the 4th Earl through the 6th Earl would have been useful.

The Respect Dare: 40 Days to a Deeper Connection with God and Your Husband
This is an awesome book. I have recommended it again and again.
“A long and happy marriage.” It sounds like the end of a fairy tale—an illusion that modern times have exposed.
And it is, if marriage depends on a constant stream of romantic emotion, or even on copious amounts of time or money. Thank the Lord, none of those are necessary. Two thousand years ago, Paul gave women the key to a successful marriage, and it can be summed up in two words: unconditional respect. It’s not popular. It doesn’t sound fair. It can be hard to imagine.
But it works.
Nina Roesner has led countless women through this practical and life-changing journey, and in The Respect Dare she offers you the hope that so many others have found. Day by day, true stories and thought-provoking questions will help you apply biblical wisdom to the most important relationship in your life.
Give it forty days. Experience the intimacy God intended and discover what he can do in your heart and in your marriage when you choose to show respect his way.

Golden Booklet of the True Christian Life
Calvin’s classic text — whether read within the Institutes or as this separate printing — is highly recommended for all Christians.
Now in paper, this classic devotional will guide you on how to apply biblical principles to everyday life. Originally part of John Calvin’s Institutes, the devotional covers themes such as obedience, self-denial, the significance of the cross, and how believers should live their lives today.
Rather than focusing on contemplative other-worldliness, the Golden Booklet of the True Christian Life stresses the importance of a devotedly active Christian life. In style and spirit, it is much like Augustine’s Confessions, Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, or Thomas à Kempis’s Imitation of Christ. Its intense practicality, however, sets it apart, making it easily accessible for anyone seeking to carry out Christian values in everyday life.
The translator, Henry J. Van Andel, competently preserved the colorful language and direct style of which John Calvin was a recognized master.

The Random Acts of Cupid (Christian Romance)
Overall, The Random Acts of Cupid was a really good read! If you enjoy cute, clean romance novels, then I think you’ll probably like this quick read.
But when lawyer Ryan Jenkins discovers she’s Seattle’s Cupid, he thinks her methods are deceptive and she shouldn’t be interfering in the lives of others.
Now Elise has 24 hours to present her case and prove her character to Ryan. Otherwise, he will reveal her secret and ruin her reputation along with possibly all of the good she’s done.
Will following her around on her Cupid errands change his mind about her? And, in the end, will Elise sacrifice her own chance at love to make one final match for her best friend?

It’s always fun with Melanie’s re-telling of classic fairy tales to see where she will separate from the original and go out on her own. In this Snow White inspired novel, I loved her take on the Seven Dwarfs and the classic “apple” scene. In my opinion, she has cornered the market in this genre for YA and teen readers and well deserves the honor. Her interpretations are always full of romance, danger, and lots of choices of the heart.
Sophie has long wished to get away from her stepmother’s jealous anger, and believes escape is her only chance to be happy. Then a young man named Gabe arrives from Hagenheim Castle, claiming she is betrothed to his older brother, and everything twists upside down. This could be her chance at freedom—but can she trust another person to keep her safe?
Gabe knows he defied his parents Rose and Wilhelm by going to find Sophie, and now he believes they had a right to worry: the orphan girl has stolen his heart. Though romance is impossible—she is his brother’s future wife, and Gabe himself is betrothed to someone else—he promises to himself he will keep her safe, no matter what.
When the pair are forced to run to the Cottage of the Seven, they find help—but also find their feelings for each other have grown. Can they find a way to protect Sophie while also safeguarding their hearts?

I’m a big fan of Melanie Dickerson and have read all four of her fairy tale retellings. This latest release inspired by Cinderella is one of her best yet!

I have just finished “The Healer’s Apprentice” by Melanie Dickerson. Spell-binding. Page-turning. Can’t-put-it-down. I am now hooked on early historical romance fiction.

Oooh, I love a good romance novel! And Melanie Dickerson writes very sweet romance novels. But they’re fairytales, and fairytales always include an evil villain and danger. The Merchant’s Daughter did not disappoint

I highly recommend The Princess Spy as a well-told continuation of Melanie’s fairy tale retellings, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
Margaretha has always been a romantic, and hopes her newest suitor, Lord Claybrook, is destined to be her one true love. But then an injured man is brought to Hagenheim Castle, claiming to be an English lord who was attacked by Claybrook and left for dead. And only Margaretha—one of the few who speaks his language—understands the wild story.
Margaretha finds herself unable to pass Colin’s message along to her father, the duke, and convinces herself “Lord Colin” is just an addled stranger. Then Colin retrieves an heirloom she lost in a well, and asks her to spy on Claybrook as repayment. Margaretha knows she could never be a spy—not only is she unable to keep anything secret, she’s sure Colin is completely wrong about her potential betrothed. Though when Margaretha overhears Claybrook one day, she discovers her romantic notions may have been clouding her judgment about not only Colin but Claybrook as well. It is up to her to save her father and Hagenheim itself from Claybrook’s wicked plot.
