Forget Me Not (Love Blossoms in Oregon Series)
Readers will enjoy background information behind this story that Miralee shares in her author’s note at the end. I highly recommend Forget Me Not, as well as the whole series. 5-star rating is in comparison to other novellas of this type.
Seven years ago, Julia McKenzie rejected the man she loved, wanting to experience more of life. Now, at the age of twenty-four, she regrets that decision. What will Seth think of her, when they encounter one another hundreds of miles from home? Will the man she cared for understand the direction her life has taken and love her in spite of her choices?
Pastor Seth Russell has never completely forgotten the girl he once courted. When she shows up in his new home of Baker City, all those feelings return. But why is she sneaking around town late at night? Even more important, will she reject him and break his heart again, or can God heal the breach between them?
Forget Me Not is part of the historical romance, Love Blossoms in Oregon series, published by David C Cook. This book can stand alone, but is better enjoyed when reading the series and getting acquainted with the full cast of characters from the Love Blossoms in Oregon series.
From the Library Journal Review for book 2 in the series, Wishing on Buttercups.
“Readers will be swept up by the blossoming romance in this second book (after Blowing on Dandelions) in Ferrell’s historical series about the lives of those who traveled on the Oregon Trail. It’s sure to engross fans of best-selling authors Johanna Lindsey and Maeve Binchy.”
Library Journal Review – 2/15/14
Ferrell, Miralee. Wishing on Buttercups. David C. Cook. (Love Blossoms in Oregon, Bk. 2)
“An amazing, deeply emotional story. Each of the characters is so sympathetic and well drawn that it was impossible to put the book down. Miralee Ferrell’s characters are appealing, with a touching and believable faith journey, and the romance is lovely.”
Roxanne Rustand, Author of Duty to Protect
Miralee Ferrell creates a solid five-star novella that is both concise and far-reaching in its message of forgiveness and love. Gentle romance combines seamlessly with the struggles of characters and a town coming to terms with their own prejudices and vocations.

The Gospel of Ruth: Loving God Enough to Break the Rules
Okay, but is this book just for women? Definitely not. First, it’s wonderful exegesis of biblical text. Granted the story of Ruth contains women, but that shouldn’t impact the readership. Yes, many of the applications are for women, but not exclusively. Think that submission, love, kindness, generosity, etc. are primarily female virtues…then you need to read this book! Highly recommended.

Child of the Mist (These Highland Hills Book #1)
Romance, faith, history and suspense will keep readers turning the pages of CHILD OF THE MIST, this well-paced first installment of Kathleen Morgan’s series “These Highland Hills.
An arranged betrothal was never the course Anne MacGregor imagined her life would take. Yet when her father explains that her cooperation is the only way to bring about the long-sought truce between feuding families, Anne has no other choice.
A simple ceremony pledging Anne’s hand in marriage after one year of commitment is the only seal to the promise of peace. But when the arrangement requires the reluctant Anne to follow Niall Campbell back to his home, she soon discovers that peace is not so easily achieved. Before they even arrive, rumors about her abound, and her safety is threatened. Meanwhile, Niall’s ascension as leader of his clan is in jeopardy, as a traitor works to bring about his downfall.
As Niall and Anne begin to see beyond each other’s defenses, love takes them by surprise. But will it be enough to defeat their foes? Or will the truce be broken, their lives forfeit, and war return to their beloved land?

Wings of Morning (These Highland Hills Book #2)
Kathleen Morgan weaves a fascinating tale of highland romance. Though I have read little historical fiction in the past few years, I scoped out free moments to pick up her book.
Orphan heiress and Scotswoman Regan MacLaren is a bride of only one day when her husband is murdered. Left alone to thwart the revenge her family seeks on her husband’s assassin, Regan suffers a terrible fall and loses her memory–and with it her place in the world. Meanwhile, laird and warrior Iain Campbell is waiting for the love he knows God will bring him. But a woman near death and without a memory isn’t quite what he expected.
And so begin enormous challenges for Regan and Iain to overcome the unholy ambitions of others while love takes them by surprise. But will betrayal and suspicion force them apart forever? Or can their love help heal their clans and their land?

A Fire Within (These Highland Hills Book #3)
Morgan uses dialect well, although I lost count of the dizzying amount of times characters told each other, “Dinna fash yerself” (or as we might say, “chill out!”). The men are braw and the women are bonny. The author excels at enriching her story with historical details; one of the richest descriptions in the book concerns a “clarsach,” or a lap harp carved with mythical beasts that represent Christ in different ways.
Caitlin Campbell has always enjoyed having things her own way as the sister of Niall Campbell, the head of her clan. Her strong will and fiery spirit add to her stubborn determination. However, she is about to discover that things can quickly get out of her control.
Darach MacNaghten’s life has been far from easy. He seems doomed to cause pain to every life he touches. Despite being cast out of his own family, he is compelled to try to save them from extinction and restore their name.
Darach and Caitlin find themselves drawn together through circumstances beyond their control. Caitlin must decide between her attraction for this dangerous highlander and her family loyalties. Will Darach’s plans lead to a deadly game that neither can afford to lose? Passion, romance, and the rugged Scottish countryside draw you into this tantalizing story.

Gut Instincts: Dispatches from the Wide Open Space Between Sickness and Health (Kindle Single)
A terrific essay, funny and empathetic, perceptive and self-reflective. Heather Abel manages to capture both her hope for a cure and her skepticism about her desire to believe in each new treatment that comes along. It reminded me of Susan Sontag and Elaine Scarry. There’s a lot here to think about for everyone whether or not you have celiac.
But even on the diet – and as glutenphobia erupted in this country, with nearly a third of Americans avoiding gluten —Abel still didn’t feel well. When doctors, nutritionists, and websites all offered contradicting information on gluten and diet, she began to panic. How would she know what to eat?
In this powerful, wide-ranging and emotional story about the limits of medical knowledge, Abel discovers why she wasn’t diagnosed with celiac as a child. She considers how environmental fears and Internet anecdotes lead people to avoid gluten. And she grapples with the question that confronts us all: how to live calmly, even joyfully, in the face of uncertainty.
Heather Abel worked as a reporter and news editor in Colorado and San Francisco and taught creative writing at the New School University and UMass Amherst. She lives with her family in western Massachusetts where she is finishing her first novel.

Interrupted: When Jesus Wrecks Your Comfortable Christianity
I feel very passionate about this book being the catalyst needed to kick you in the pants, get you diving back into your Bible, and making a big difference in your communities–both locally and globally. It may help you, as it did me, by simply putting out there that many of us feel a real disconnect between the church and God’s Word.
Christ brought Jen and her family to a place of living on mission by asking them tough questions, leading them through Scripture, and walking together with them on the path. Interrupted invites readers to take a similar journey.

The Cowboy’s Autumn Fall (Grass Valley Cowboys Book 4)
Another great story. Shanna Hatfield, if you believe two people in love can sleep in the same bed and nothing is going to happen, then you are a better dreamer than you are a writer, however, the greater the power of the dreamer, the greater the quality of the story and the author. Another fantastic job!
