I found Michael Yankoski’s book, The Sacred Year, profound and transformative! I have read many books on spirituality and have taught courses on spiritual formation in seminary, retreats, and churches, and this book is one of the best I have encountered from a modern writer.
By contemplating apples for an hour before tasting them (attentiveness), eating on just $2.00 a day (simplicity), or writing letters of thanks (gratitude), Michael discovered a whole new vitality and depth through the intentional life.
Guided by the voice of Father Solomon–a local monk–Yankoski’s Sacred Year slowly transforms his life. Both entertaining and profound, his story will resonate with those who wish to deepen their own committed faith as well as those who are searching–perhaps for the first time–for their own authentic encounter with the Divine.

Sacred Parenting: How Raising Children Shapes Our Souls
As a Christian mother of toddler triplets, I have read lots of books on parenting…but never one that has effected my persective as positively as this one. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to positively impact the attitude of their heart for parenting. This is not a How To…it is much richer!
In this six-session small group Bible study DVD, Sacred Parenting, Gary Thomas uses a unique lens to look at parenting, moving beyond raising great children to becoming more holy as a person.
What if one of God’s primary intentions for you as a parent isn’t about successfully raising perfect children, but about you becoming more holy? In Sacred Parenting Gary Thomas illustrates how God can transform lessons in raising children into opportunities to grow in the image of Christ.
It will help you and your group, rediscover parenting from a different perspective: as a method of spiritual formation expressly designed by God to shape your soul in ways you could not imagine!
Designed for use with the Sacred Parenting Participant Guide (sold separately), this DVD features six 10-15 minute live sessions with Gary Thomas and will help you dig deeper into learning how God can transform dirty diapers, toddler tantrums, and a teenager’s silence into occasions for becoming more like Christ.
Sessions include:
1. The Soul-Transforming Journey of Parenting
2. God-Centered Parenting
3. The Hardest Hurt of All
4. Embracing Our Insignificance
5. Walking on the Wild Side of Parenting
6. The Gold Behind the Guilt

Sgt. York: His Life, Legend & Legacy: The Remarkable Untold Story of Sgt. Alvin C. York
John Perry’s book did an outstanding job of introducing this great man. This is not a blood and guts account of the horrors of WWI. While it is detailed at times it is through those details you learn what a true hero is. If you are looking for books about an Americans we should never forget this should be one of them.

Love Finds You in Prince Edward Island
Love Finds You in Prince Edward Island, Canada is the first book in the series to be set outside the United States. As a Canadian, I enjoyed this glimpse into my country’s history. Though the novel started out slow and with many characters to keep straight, I was soon drawn into Molly and Peter’s story.

Love Finds You in Valentine, Nebraska
Brand accurately portrays the solitary ranch country in the Sandhills of western Nebraska, with its unique customs and prejudices, along with small town Nebraska life. She imports a crook or two and sets up some local criminals for plenty of adventure. You will love Wilson, the wonderful dog.

Love Finds You in Miracle, Kentucky
Andrea Boeshaar did an excellent job weaving together elements of faith and family in this charming Kentucky-flavored romance. Her characters became real to me, and I was sorry to say goodbye to them on the last page. This is a delightful book, and a great beginning for the new Love Finds You In…Series.

The author’s tone is loving, forgiving, welcoming, and friendly. It is an easy read, but full of excellent information. Ms. Nelson describes fasting as a form of worship, and the encouragement she provides in the pages of this book is truly invaluable. I’d recommend this book to any woman who has considered fasting. It’s a wonderful resource.

Finding Spiritual Whitespace: Awakening Your Soul to Rest
I read a ton of books each year. You could say I devour them, but Bonnie’s book now holds a special place on my shelf. It helped me to go through some healing and learn how to take time to rest. I would have to say that so far this year it has been the top read for me. If you are struggling with healing or finding peace or experiencing stress, Bonnie’s book is not to be missed!!
How many of us find ourselves exhausted, running on empty with no time for rest, no time for ourselves, no time for God? Bonnie Gray knows exactly what that’s like. On the brink of fulfilling a lifelong dream, Bonnie’s plans suddenly went off script. Her life shattered into a debilitating journey through anxiety, panic attacks, and insomnia. But as she struggled to make sense of it all, she made an important discovery: we all need spiritual whitespace.
Spiritual whitespace makes room–room in one’s heart for a deep relationship with God, room in one’s life for rest, room in one’s soul for rejuvenation. With soul-stirring vulnerability and heartbreaking honesty, Bonnie takes readers on a personal journey to feed their souls and uncover the deeper story of rest. Lyrical writing draws readers into Gray’s intimate journey through overwhelming stress to find God in a broken story and celebrate the beauty of faith.
Guided by biblical encouragement and thought-provoking prompts, Gray shows readers how to create space in the everyday for God, refreshment, and faith. She also offers practical steps and insights for making spiritual whitespace a reality, right in the midst of the stress-frayed stories in every season of life.
“We live in a culture that brags and boasts about being busy. Into that reality steps Bonnie with a new idea. Whitespace is an important concept and Bonnie has captured it perfectly. If you’re exhausted with being exhausted, read this book. If you feel too busy to read this book, then that’s probably the best sign of all that you need it.”–from the foreword by Jon Acuff, New York Times bestselling author of Stuff Christians Like

I was invested in Finley’s journey following her brother’s footsteps in Ireland, as she composed her piece to get into music school, and her tumultuous relationship with Beckett Rush. Especially when she found out that he is nothing like she thought he would be. I laughed when she laughed and cried when she cried. I know that this is a book that is going to stay with me for a long time. I really loved this book.
Grief brought Finley to Ireland. Love will lead her home.
Finley Sinclair is not your typical eighteen-year-old. She’s witty, tough, and driven. With an upcoming interview at the Manhattan music conservatory, Finley needs to compose her audition piece. But her creativity disappeared with the death of her older brother, Will.
She decides to study abroad in Ireland so she can follow Will’s travel journal. It’s the place he felt closest to God, and she’s hopeful being there will help her make peace over losing him. So she agrees to an exchange program and boards the plane.
Beckett Rush, teen heartthrob and Hollywood bad boy, is flying to Ireland to finish filming his latest vampire movie. On the flight, he meets Finley. She’s the one girl who seems immune to his charm. Undeterred, Beckett convinces her to be his assistant in exchange for his help as a tour guide.
Once in Ireland, Finley starts to break down. The loss of her brother and the pressure of school, her audition, and whatever it is that is happening between her and Beckett, leads her to a new and dangerous vice. When is God going to show up for her in this emerald paradise?
Then she experiences something that radically changes her perspective on life. Could it be God convincing her that everything she’s been looking for has been with her all along?

Fire and Ice (Brides of Weatherton Book 2)

After a time of correspondence, she fancied herself in love with Patrick and agreed to marry him. She packed the few belongings she had, said goodbye to her family, and left her home for romance in the west.
But when she arrived in Weatherton, Patrick was nowhere to be found. Weeks went by, and with no money to return home, Maeve was stuck in limbo, living with Patrick’s family. Every day that passed, she realized more and more that Patrick was not that man he portrayed in his letters.

Flabbergasted ( Book #1): A Novel
Flabbergasted” is a comic and wise peek into the ways that God works in our lives, leaning heavily on the romance side of things. Never sappy, though. Remember, this is from a guy’s point of view.
His dating life’s gone south.
What else is a guy to do but go fishing?
Jay is new in town. He’s young, successful, and single, and he’s not afraid to plop down in a church pew to scope out the females. But in the murky waters of the South Carolina singles scene, Jay’s whole world is in danger of being turned upside down.
“Refreshingly honest. . . . Highly recommended.”–Library Journal
“Blackston’s light and breezy style makes ideal reading for a lazy summer night.”–Bookpage
“Fun, lighthearted, and thoroughly enjoyable.”–CCM magazine
“This is one book you don’t want to miss!”–Crossings Book Club
“Amazing. A novel that is simultaneously serious, hilarious, and impossible to put down.”–The Dallas Morning News
Armed with the knowledge that his second grade teacher always liked his stories and poems, Ray Blackston walked away from the corporate cubicle, bought a laptop, said a prayer, and began typing the first words of Flabbergasted. He does not recommend this method for the faint of heart.

Unshakeable Pursuit: Sonoma series #4.2
Unshakeable Pursuit is full of excitement and hold-your-breath moments! Dr. Geoffrey Whelan and nurse Maylin Kinley find themselves in grave danger and must determine who wants them dead and why. The relationship between Geoffrey and Maylin continues to escalate, as does the danger they are facing. I loved the action, romance, and suspense of Unshakeable Pursuit and highly recommend this novella!
Then a mysterious young woman warns him that he and nurse Maylin Kinley are in mortal danger.
Maylin notices that Geoffrey is not the same arrogant doctor she met years ago in Los Angeles. Now that they are working together again in a clinic in Sonoma, she fights her attraction towards him because his confident, forceful personality reminds her too much of her abusive ex-boyfriend, who called himself a Christian.
She has been steering clear of her handsome coworker—until Asian hit men attack the clinic and they are forced to run for their lives. Now they must race to figure out how the threat is connected to a young teenager whose life they saved—before everyone they love is caught in the crossfire.

Deadly Devotion (Port Aster Secrets Book #1): A Novel
Deadly Devotion kept me guessing throughout the twist and turns of the story and the last sentence of every chapter begged me to turn the next page. The engaging plot and snappy dialogue made this mystery a fast and entertaining read.
