Follow the Yarn: The Knitting Wit & Wisdom of Ann Sokolowski
I love this beautiful and poetic book! What a great combination of practical knitting instructions, and tips, all magically combined with a biography of Ann Sokolowski, the knitting instructor. What a perfect way to honor the teacher while sharing the heart felt journey of the student.
Nothing could have surprised me more. At the time, I considered myself neither a knitter nor a writer – how could I write a book about knitting? Furthermore, I hardly knew Ann – how could I write about her? What was this all about? I resisted the idea with all my strength, but the voice would not be go away, and I began to write the notes that eventually turned into “Follow the Yarn.”
That inner voice certainly knew something I didn’t know when it prodded me to embark on this project that somehow led me on a journey from knitting to self-discovery. When my teacher, Ann, passed away suddenly nine months into my beginner knitting class, the book I was planning to write – a lighthearted collection of Ann’s knitting tips and techniques – turned into something much deeper. I surrendered to the project and I followed where it led me – and lead me it did, in a totally surprising direction.
Amazingly, the yarn led back to me. Amazing grace, through the act of sharing my truth through writing, I began to learn who I really am. As I followed the yarn, I discovered the ways in which my life was intertwined with Ann’s, and, in the process, I began to uncover my own true story.
Gail Straub, co-founder of the Empowerment Institute and author of Returning to My Mother’s House, writes: Follow the Yarn is a triple threat! First, it is a superb study guide for anyone who knits or ever wanted to knit; second, it is a deeply moving story of a mentor and her student; and finally, it is an inspiring tale of the author finding her voice as a writer. Reba’s clear, luminous style smoothly combines Ann Sokolowski’s encyclopedic knowledge of knitting with lively, humorous anecdotes. Follow the Yarn is a fitting tribute to a master teacher and a one-of kind-woman.
“Tattoo this on your eyelids! This book is really really good. . .It’s got everything going for it; funny stories, heart warming anecdotes, awesome information about how to take care of your knits, and a mass of other little facts and details that range form interesting to ‘ohmergawd how did I not know this???’,” writes Theo DeAndrea “This book is without a doubt one of the most wonderful reads!”
Marilyn Graman, noted author and co-founder of Lifeworks states: “Who would think that great wisdom could be passed on by teaching and learning knitting? Not for knitting lovers only, this is a how-to-knit book, yes, but more importantly a story of healing and inspiring wisdom.”

Good common-sense training info simplified so anyone, no matter how new to training, can understand. Workouts are simple yet hit all muscle groups and require very little equipment which makes this a program for everyone.
The current fitness world is known for making huge promises that “all of your dreams can come true” in a matter of a few short weeks. Once they stop the program they gain the weight back, with interest.

While these characters are entwined in some complex difficulties, ultimately peace is the theme of EVEN NOW. On a number of levels, this excellent book is well worth reading.

Ever After: Life Lessons Learned in My Castle of Chaos
Nodded my head in agreement many times while reading. A very sweet book worth reading. We have much to learn from those who have been there and done that!
The problem is, the fairytales and chick flicks end where real life begins. We never see that follow-up scene where the prince and princess argue at 3 a.m. over who will get up with the colicky newborn. Or the princess reluctantly returns to work to help pay the bills and feels the stress of juggling work and family. And you certainly won’t see that part where the princess moves her last child into the dorm and realizes the bulk of her identity has been based on being a mother.
The truth is, marriage and motherhood are hard. Few of us are prepared to handle the balancing act of being a good wife and a good mother, without one or the other getting the short end of the stick. No matter how much we give or how hard we try, we never quite feel like it’s enough. And heaven help us, we always imagine every one else is doing a much better job.
In Ever After, best-selling author Vicki Courtney addresses the realities of marriage and motherhood, the difficulties and the blessings. It offers women a behind the scenes glimpse of what a fairytale really looks like on the average day for the average wife and mom. Poignant, funny, and even cathartic, Vicki shares mistakes made, lessons learned, and memories to keep. Most of all, she reflects the hope and promise that God meets us in the middle wherever we are in the journey.

Waiting for Daybreak (Tomorrow’s Promise Collection Book #2)
This was my first time reading a book by this author and I was not disappointed by it at all. The author really knows how to explore the deepest feelings of her characters. It was a wonderful story, well written and researched. I absolutely loved the spiritual aspect of the book and it really ministered to me. I wept in parts and took away something from the book that is going to help me in my own spiritual walk right now. Don’t hesitate to buy this book.

This is a great collection of books by one author. Nothing dull about this series of inspirational romance books, nor are they full of “fluff”. Great story line in each book, with the characters interlinked throughout the series.

Merry Humbug Christmas by Sandra Bricker was such a fun book to read. I literally read it in a day because I could not put it down. Told in 2 novellas, the stories follow two best friends as they each have highly unexpected and hilarious Christmas holidays. The book will definitely put you in the Christmas spirit!
I received a free copy of this book to review as a member of the Launch team.
In “Once Upon a Jingle Bell,” A Bah! Humbug cruise to the Mexican Riviera is Joss Snow’s answer to this year’s quest to avoid the holidays completely; at least until she’s rebooked on a different kind of cruise altogether. Candy canes, holly wreaths, reindeer and ornaments seem to be stalking her on the 12 Days of Christmas holiday cruise extravaganza. An escape back to land is her only goal . . . until she meets a kindred spirit in rugged Irishman Patrick Brenneman, and then the game is on! Avoid Christmas festivities at all costs . . . except maybe for that one stop under the mistletoe.
In “It Came Upon a Midnight Deer,” Reese’s guilt over abandoning best friend Joss on their holiday tradition of avoiding all things Christmas is trumped by the joy of her recent engagement. Meeting Damian’s family for the first time on idyllic Sugarloaf Mountain is about as far from that Bah! Humbug cruise as she can get, and Reese can hardly wait to get there. But from the moment they hit that deer in the road just two miles from the cabin, everything seems to go wrong. There are no drummers drumming or pipers piping this particular year! And once she sets her future in-laws’ family cabin ablaze, she’s pretty sure there won’t be even ONE golden ring in her future.

Oh Lardy’s Guide to Fermenting Fruits and Vegetables
What I love about this book is how SIMPLE the recipes are to make. I’m a busy mom and I value probiotic-rich fermented foods in our family diet but I don’t always have a lot of time to chop up a million ingredients for anything elaborate. These recipes are easy for anyone to make and they are YUMMY. We have fermented carrots and garlic on the counter now. The photos are also beautiful –an added bonus. Great ebook at a great deal!

Can’t we all use an eye-opener now and then? This book will make you smile with the simple realization of how often we let life’s inconsequentials get the better of us. It’s a gift that will keep giving each time they read through it!
You can learn to put things into perspective by making the small daily changes Dr. Carlson suggests, including advice such as “Choose your battles wisely”; “Remind yourself that when you die, your ‘in’ box won’t be empty”; and “Make peace with imperfection”. The Passionate Mom: Dare to Parent in Today’s World
Thanks to Susan’s book The Passionate Mom I now have a plan and a new way to gauge if it is working for my kids. Through her 10 chapter book she takes you step by step through cultivating the 10 P’s and how they fit together to accomplish your goal of being the best mom you can be.
Thelogistics are easy. Anybody can do laundry and carpool. But what makes a motherthe best mom she can be?
It’s notbetter scheduling. Or more activities. Or less.
It ispassion—the passion to teach, protect, study, and prepare her children for thefuture.
Great, buthow?
SusanMerrill, the mother of five incredibly different children, has asked thatquestion countless times. And she has read countless answers specific to acertain child’s temperament, age, or situation. But nothing she read offered anoverall approach to parenting that would enable her to say with confidence, “I am doing this right.” She neverguessed she would find a foundational plan—a reliable, universal parentingapproach in the Old Testament book of Nehemiah.
In ThePassionate Mom, Susan takes you on a journey through Nehemiah and into theheart of parenting. Her stories and confessions in every chapter reveal whatshe has learned: no mom can control her child’s future, but every mom canparent well. There is a plan—a roadmap for how a passionate mom can parentalmost any child, confidently.
“…Thisbook reaches mothers like me at both the heart level and the head level, showing us how to guide our children passionately and practically…”
–Shaunti Feldhahn, social researcher, national speaker and best-selling author of “For WomenOnly”

Parenting from Your Strengths: Understanding Strengths and Valuing Differences in Your Home
I think it is an invaluable tool to know how to communicate with your children and, equally important, how your child/children communicate themselves. We can say one thing and they will hear another. It’s our responsibility to communicate with them and UNDERSTAND who God created them to be–not just who we want them to be. Another excellent resource
The Global Parenting Plan (GPP) draws on the imagery of Global Positioning devices-by doing what Global Positioning devices do to help people track a successful course. What a GPS device does is “triangulate” a person’s position, by getting a reading from three known positions: God’s unchanging Word, their own unique parenting strengths, and the way each of their children is “fearfully and wonderfully made.” By drawing on these three factors parents can not only draw closer to each other, but can be even more effective in “training up a child” in their own unique bent.

Princess Ever After (Royal Wedding Series Book 2)
As with every good story, there are doubts, danger, unexpected enemies, good friends, and a happy ending. I love Hauck’s style, and this is another gem from her pen. This is one story you won’t want to miss.
Regina Beswick was born to be a princess.
But she’s content to be a small-town girl, running a classic auto restoration shop, unaware a secret destiny awaits her. One that will leap from the pages of her grandmother’s hand-painted book of fairytales.
Tanner Burkhardt is the stoic Minister of Culture for the Grand Duchy of Hessenberg. When he is tasked to retrieve the long-lost princess, he must overcome his fear of failure in order to secure his nation’s future—and his own.
Yet lurking in the political shadows is a fierce opponent with sinister plans to abolish the throne forever.
Overwhelmed with opposition, Regina must decide if she’s destined to restore old cars or an ancient nation. Together—with a little divine intervention—Regina and Tanner discover the truth of her heritage and the healing power of true love.
“Hauck can be counted on for captivating, page-turning stories and sincere characters with heart.” —Romantic Times Review, 4 stars
