The illustrations are colorful and interesting. My kids loved to look at the detail in them. This is another nice book to read during the Advent season!
Van Amsterdam the baker was well known for his honesty as well as for his fine Saint Nicholas cookies. He always gave his customers exactly what they paid for — not more and not less. So, he was not about to give in when a mysterious old woman comes to him on Saint Nicholas Day and insists that a dozen is thirteen!
The woman’s curse puts an end to the baker’s business, and he believes it would take Saint Nicholas to help him. But if he receives that help, will it be exactly what he imagined?

Mud, Sweat, and Tears: The Autobiography
From the very beginning, the storytelling drew me in. The portrayal of the lives and often heroic actions of his ancestors warmed my heart in a way that few authors manage. Even better than the storytelling was Bear’s insight into the attitudes and principles of these people and the explanations of how this history and these stories affected him and helped to shape him into the person that he is now.
“Bear Grylls is one tough, crazy dude.”
—Washington Post
Already a #1 London Sunday Times Bestseller, Mud, Sweat, and Tears is the adrenaline-fueled autobiography of the mega-popular star of the hit survival series Man Vs. Wild, adventurer Bear Grylls. A former British Special Forces commando, a man who has always sought the ultimate in dangerous challenges, Bear’s true story reads like an outdoors action and adventure novel. But Bear’s story is true—full of breathtaking escapes and remarkable exploits that would make any Jack London or H. Ryder Haggard hero proud.

This book is alive! It covers topics right out of my daily life (like leadership, politics, and management) that I’ve never been able to find so easily in a traditional concordance. Then, as the title says, it shows me where to find them in the Bible. I’m using it as one of my key organizational development tools. Dr. John Rivera, consultant, researcher, and educator

I loved the bookstore setting and the chocolate flowing – toss in some Frank Sinatra and this was a perfect story. This isn’t a deep or complicated read but sweet and charming. Clean, easy to read and heartwarming – I highly recommend it.

Where Courage Calls (Return to the Canadian West Book #1): A When Calls the Heart Novel
I loved this novel! I was excited to cozy up and start reading it every night. Janette Oke has done it again, with the help of her daughter Laurel Oke Logan! I grew up on her books, and reading Where Courage Calls reminded me of why I love her so much. It was inspirational, encouraging, romantic, funny, and just plain enjoyable. Beth’s story in Where Courage Calls will stay with me for a very long time!
Beth Thatcher has spent her entire life in the safe, comfortable world of her family, her friends, and the social outings her father’s wealth provides. But Beth is about to leave it all behind to accept a teaching position in the rugged foothills of western Canada. Inspired by her aunt Elizabeth, who went west to teach school several years ago, and gently encouraged by her father, Beth resolves to put her trust in God and bravely face any challenge that comes her way.
But the conditions in Coal Valley are even worse than she’d feared. A recent mining accident has left the town grieving and at the mercy of the mining company. The children have had very little prior education, and many of the locals don’t even speak English. There isn’t even a proper schoolhouse. In addition, Beth’s heart is torn between two young men–both Mounties, one a lifelong friend and the other a kind, quiet man who comes to her aid more than once.
Despite the many challenges, Beth is determined to make a difference in the rustic frontier town. But when her sister visits from the East, reminding her of all the luxuries she’s had to give up, will Beth decide to return to her privileged life as soon as the school year is over?
