Micro gardening is essentially the practice of using small or limited spaces, such as patios, window sills, balconies, indoor pots, or courtyards in order to grow plants. The concept has recently gathered much press due to the attention given by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, highlighting micro gardening as a critical way in order to help more people, especially the urban poor, get more food on their tables. It also helps the environment, since a lot of the materials used are recycled from plastic containers, old trash cans, and even some old car tires.

Because of the inherent lack of space, it will be tough to do what the rural gardeners do and support a full-fledged family simply on a micro-garden. But UN research also shows that a simple 11-square-foot micro-garden, when well tended, can yield as much as 10 cabbages every 90 days, 36 heads of lettuce every 60 days, 100 onions every 120 days, and 200 tomatoes in a year. Seeing these numbers, it is easy to imagine that micro gardens can be very profitable as well.

Nozzlehead's Big Adventure (Nozzlehead Adventure Series Book 1)

Nozzlehead’s Big Adventure (Nozzlehead Adventure Series Book 1)

TJ Spencer

A wonderful book about the lives of firefighters. The story is great and the pictures are so bright and beautiful. This is my sons new favorite book.

Statia

Nozzlehead’s Big Adventure is book 1 of a 3 book series written by a Professional Firefighter who shares his emergency calls with kids through the firefighter characters, Nozzlehead, Halfcap and Scout. Together this team of firefighters put out fires, make rescues and assist community members as they take you on an adventure and show you what it’s like to be a firefighter in the city of Warmville. The characters are fun, kind, child friendly and loveable. Each story is packed with action and adventure as you ride along with them in a big Fire Engine or the Aid Car on their way to help others. The illustrations are colorful and full of detail and on occasion, there just might be a hidden object for you to find and rescue along the way.
The stories are taken in part from actual 911 calls that the author has run during his career as a firefighter. They are shared in a way that will fill your child with adventure and open new doors of discovery that show them how firefighters live, work together, perform chores, receive emergency calls and go about the adventure of firefighting. We encourage you to read these books with your child and discuss the action, teamwork and problem solving that you will find in each book.
Each book features a scan code that takes the reader to a free music video of the book by simply scanning the book with a “Smart Device”.

Texas Weddings (Books One and Two): A Class of Her Own & A Chorus of One

Janice Thompson

Wonderful! 🙂 heartwarming! Uplifting & encouraging! I Enjoyed both books! Looking forward to reading the next two in the series 🙂

Janelle Phipps

BOOK ONE: A CLASS OF HER OWN: When Laura Chapman’s husband of over twenty years passes away, she finds herself the sole provider for two teenage children, lonely and frightened, and determined to return to college to obtain a degree. Then she lands in the same history class with her daughter and finds herself offending the toughest professor on campus. Professor Andrew Dougherty, still a bachelor at forty-seven, has sworn off women. His heart was broken years earlier by a skittish fiancee. Just when Laura feels that she has no alternative but to drop out of school due to stress and finances, Andrew begins to realize that it is time for the battle to cease between them. He is beginning to discover that his feelings for Laura Chapman are not at all what he thought at first.

BOOK TWO: A CHORUS OF ONE: It’s the opportunity of a lifetime…Jessica Chapman has her happy ending planned out. Does it really matter that she and her fiance’ don’t agree on every little detail? Or even on some big ones–like her passion for music and the theater. Jessica plans to become Nathan Fisher’s wife and live “happily ever after” in Houston. But then Jess is offered the internship of her dreams. The handsome and tenderhearted Colin Phillips sees something special in Jessica, believing the Lord has chosen her to train vocally gifted children–in Dallas. Could God also have chosen her to play a more important role in Colin’s life? Should Jess settle for an ill-fitting lackluster marriage? Or will the Lord orchestrate the perfect duet?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Janice Hanna Thompson is the author of over eighty books for the Christian market. A Class of Her Own and A Chorus of One were her first published romances, both appearing in print for the first time between 2001 and 2002. These days, she writes comedic love stories, but still has a soft place in her heart for these earlier “not so funny” inspirational romances.

He Restores My Soul

He Restores My Soul

Jennifer Kennedy Dean

I am amazed at the anointing that is upon this book. Not only my life, but the lives of several people I know have been changed into lives immersed in the Spirit. Not only does this book challenge you and your perspective on your walk with Christ, but also LEADS you into that deeper walk.

Brantley Quin

According to Jennifer Kennedy Dean, “”God’s people are ‘silver’-they are the most malleable, the most resistant to corrosion, the most reflective, and the best conductors of power.”” In her 40-day program for spiritual renewal, Dean assists readers in discovering their potential for an inner transformation that will make them sensitive to God’s shaping hand. Based on biblical precedents, He Restores My Soul guides readers toward quiet moments of worship called “”retreats””-special times in the presence of God when the soul and self can be revitalized. By emphasizing the importance of Scripture, quiet reflection, listening prayer, and worship, Dean helps Christians become pure as silver. Only then can they reflect the true glory of God.

Christian America?: Perspectives on Our Religious Heritage

Christian America?: Perspectives on Our Religious Heritage

Daryl C. Cornett

I would commend this book to those who want to examine the options about America’s Christian religious heritage.

Doug Hibbard

Throughout her history America has possessed a rich religious component largely comprised of different traditions of the Christian faith. This tide of personal religious devotion connected to government observances and policies has ebbed and flowed through time, but it has always been a part of American identity—one that is full of social and political debate. As such, Christian America? presents a hearty point-counterpoint discussion about the nature of the relationship Christianity has had to American politics and culture throughout the country’s existence, aiming to determine which of these four differing opinions is most appropriate.

David Barton (WallBuilders) supports the idea that America is distinctly Christian based on centuries of authoritative government declarations.

Jonathan D. Sassi (College of Staten Island) believes America is distinctly secular based on the nation’s religiously eclectic and secular beginning (particularly the emphasis on “the complete separation of church and state”).

William D. Henard (The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) sees America as essentially Christian, making his case for the nation’s crucial faith component while exploring varied interpretations of comments like one made in 2009 by President Barack Obama: “Although… we have a very large Christian population, we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation…”

Daryl C. Cornett, the book’s editor, argues that America is partly Christian, a nation that was shaped by a blend of religious and non-religious tendencies. He writes, “After the Civil War steady decline in religious adherence was the impetus for evangelicals to mythologize American history and pine for a return to a golden age of Christian faith and virtue at its founding that never existed.”

The God I Love: A Lifetime of Walking with Jesus

The God I Love: A Lifetime of Walking with Jesus

Joni Eareckson Tada

For Joni Eareckson Tada’s memoir to turn out to be anything less than stellar would be difficult to imagine. A long-time bestselling author with an amazing story and a highly successful ministry, Tada outdoes her remarkable record with an autobiography that may be her best book so far.

FaithfulReader.com

“The God I Love is the book that captures my heart and thoughts in the events, dialogues, memories, images, and scenes of my life—my walk with God.”—Joni Eareckson Tada

Joni’s name is synonymous around the world with the words “loving God.” She has lived out these words since the diving accident thirty-six years ago that left her paralyzed from the shoulders down. Now in The God I Love she looks back on the whole of her life through eyes that can see how that accident actually moved her in a new direction, saving her from another tragedy of her own making.

This story-driven narrative captures the events and images of Joni’s remarkable life as she describes her life in six themes. She begins with her life as an ordinary girl who is blessed by an extraordinary God—but not without tragic turns. Then she ponders the question, would she have been an artist if she had not broken her neck? She recognizes that through prayer she enters into God’s holy presence and finds that he answers her prayers in full measure. She acknowledges that it is only through the kindness of friends that she has bathed or eaten or done the countless simple tasks that make up everyday life. Because of her unusual situation, her wheelchair has rolled onto platforms around the world where millions of people have heard her speak about her Savior. Through tragedy Joni has come to know God, the living, surprising, wonderful Lord of all.

A note from Joni—

The God I Love is a memory still unfolding of the journey that keeps taking me deeper into the heart of my Savior. It’s my prayer that this story, which spans over fifty years, will resonate with each person who takes time to pick up the book…it’s my prayer that The God I Love will serve as a roadmap, a guide, a signpost to light the journey of each reader, helping them to see their sweet, soft desperation of Jesus, too.

Jesus + Nothing = Everything

Jesus + Nothing = Everything

Tullian Tchividjian

Overall, I enjoyed the book and believe it could lead to some fruitful discussion and helpful conversations regarding the gospel, the grace of God, following Jesus, and delighting in God.

Luke Geraty

Jesus + Nothing = Everything is the equation that Tullian Tchividjian took away from a year of great trial and turmoil. He describes the bitter divisions that soured the beginning of his pastorate at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and the personal anchor that he found in the overwhelming power of the gospel. The book of Colossians forms the basis of Tchividjian’s call for Christians to rediscover the gospel and continually reorient their lives around Jesus and only Jesus.

Tchividjian insists that many who assume they understand the gospel fail to actually apply its riches to their lives. He takes particular aim at self-righteousness, which motivates moral behavior by fear and guilt. In contrast, the gospel of grace, with the radical freedom that it brings, provides the only sustainable motivation for Christians. This book delves into the profound theological truths of the gospel, yet the message is intensely practical—Tchividjian sounds the call for believers to lean hard on Christ in every area of every day.
