The Measure of Katie Calloway,: A Novel
I think if you enjoy a good story with romance and a little suspense, then you would enjoy ‘The Measure of Katie Calloway’! Recommended!
With grace and skill, Serena Miller brings to life a bygone era. From the ethereal, snowy forest and the warm cookstove to the rowdy shanty boys and the jagged edges of the saw, every detail is perfectly rendered, transporting the reader back to the time when pine was king, men were made of iron, and rivers were choked with logs on the way to the sawmills. Readers will have a hard time leaving the Northwoods when they turn the last page.

Are you yearning to raise children in the Lord? This book will offer great insights on how to experience God at hoe as it relates to your family. A must-read for all parents and for children ministers.
Here, his sons Tom and Richard Blackaby first establish the biblical case for the idea of experiencing God at home, illuminating how the clear foundation for God’s work in nations and churches around the world is his work in families.
Indeed, healthy families lead to healthy churches, and the Blackabys illustrate that through real-life stories of families that have found ways to experience God in marriage, in choosing life’s direction, in rescuing broken relationships, in forgiveness, in the salvation of loved ones, etc.
Lessons from the Bible support these moving accounts, and the book concludes with resources that will guide individuals families as well as entire churches toward practically experiencing God at home.

Parenting from Your Strengths: Understanding Strengths and Valuing Differences in Your Home
We can say one thing and they will hear another. It’s our responsibility to communicate with them and UNDERSTAND who God created them to be–not just who we want them to be. Another excellent resource (especially for teens and parents) is the Ministry Insights “Family Insights Profile”
The Global Parenting Plan (GPP) draws on the imagery of Global Positioning devices-by doing what Global Positioning devices do to help people track a successful course. What a GPS device does is “triangulate” a person’s position, by getting a reading from three known positions: God’s unchanging Word, their own unique parenting strengths, and the way each of their children is “fearfully and wonderfully made.” By drawing on these three factors parents can not only draw closer to each other, but can be even more effective in “training up a child” in their own unique bent.

Christian’s Secret of a Happy Life, The
I highly recommend this book. I read it while stationed in Iraq and it encouraged me very much in that situation. It is thoroughly orthodox in its theology and praxis and has nothing to do with modern “psycho-babble” as one other reviewer mistakenly suggested.

So if you like historical novels, I suggest you try this one — even if regency is not your usually choice. I think you will quickly learn why Ms. Klassen is a best-selling author of Christian fiction.

Small Town Girl (Rosey Corner Book #2): A Novel
I loved the history in Small Town Girl. I don’t know if I’ve ever read a book that takes place during Pearl Harbor, so I found that aspect of this book very fascinating.
Then suddenly, Pearl Harbor changes everything. Kate’s friends are rushing to get married before the boys go off to war. The newspapers talk of women making airplanes and bombs. Everyone in town begins rolling bandages, planting victory gardens, collecting scrap metal. Kate finds herself drawn to Jay in surprising ways, and when he enlists she can hardly breathe worrying about him getting killed. Could she truly be in love with him? And if she is, will she ever see him again?
In her gentle and textured style, Ann Gabhart tells a timeless story of love, sacrifice, and longing that will grip the heart and stir the spirit. Fans of Angel Sister will be thrilled to see Kate Merritt all grown up. New readers will find that Ann Gabhart weaves in Small Town Girl a beautiful story that will touch their hearts and win their loyalty.

BoFirefly Island (The Shores of Moses Lake Book #3)okTitle
Firefly Island is an outstanding and exciting book. I have read it twice and I highly recommend Firefly Island!
At thirty-four, congressional staffer Mallory Hale is about to embark on an adventure completely off the map. After a whirlwind romance, she is hopelessly in love with two men–fortunately, they’re related. Daniel Everson and his little boy, Nick, are a package deal, and Mallory suddenly can’t imagine her future without them.
Mallory couldn’t be more shocked when Daniel asks her to marry him, move to Texas, and form a family with him and motherless Nick. The idea is both thrilling and terrifying.
Mallory takes a leap of faith and begins a sweet, mishap-filled journey into ranch living, Moses Lake society, and a marriage that at times reminds her of the mail-order-bride stories. But despite the wild adventure of her new life, she discovers secrets and questions beneath her rosy new life. Can she find answers on Firefly Island, a little chunk of property just off the lakeshore, where mysterious lights glisten at night?

The Nesting Place: It Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect to Be Beautiful
Beware perfectionists (my hand is raised): This book is going to change the way you look at everything. This is a book that helps you dwell in the home and in the life you have, rather than trying to over-manage and perfect the places where you live and love.
Perfection is overrated.
Popular blogger and self-taught decorator Myquillyn Smith (The Nester) is all about
embracing reality—especially when it comes to decorating a home bursting with boys, pets, and all the unpredictable messes of life.
In The Nesting Place, Myquillyn shares the secrets of decorating for real people—and it has nothing to do with creating a flawless look to wow your guests. It has everything to do with embracing the natural imperfection and chaos of daily living.
Drawing on her years of experience creating beauty in her 13 different homes, Myquillyn will show you how to think differently about the true purpose of your home and simply and creatively tailor it to reflect you and your unique style—without breaking the bank or stressing over comparisons. Full of easy tips, simple steps, and practical advice, The Nesting Place will give you the courage to take risks with your home and transform it into a place that’s inviting and warm for family and friends.
There is beauty in the lived-in and loved-on and just-about-used-up, Myquillyn says, and welcoming that imperfection wholeheartedly just might be the most freeing thing you’ll ever do.

Finishing Well to the Glory of God: Strategies from a Christian Physician
My 95 year old mother-in-law asked me to get this for her. So far, there have been 3 others who’ve immediately picked it up and couldn’t put it down. It was very encouraging to her and she’s re-read it upon it’s return to her.
Most people want to finish life well, yet so few take the time necessary to carefully think through what that entails. Some say it means contentment, happiness, and freedom from pain. Many desire to simply maintain their dignity and enjoy their family and loved ones. These are reasonable goals; yet, there is a more profound, uniquely Christian approach to the end of life.
John Dunlop, a medical doctor who has practiced for over thirty years and specializes in geriatrics, combines his medical expertise, firsthand experience with patients, and firm commitment to Scripture to propose nine strategies for finishing life well. He shows how with proper physical, emotional, and spiritual preparation, aging and death need not be a fight to the finish but a purposeful resting in the arms of the Savior. Theologically robust and practically relevant, this book will prove to be a sensitive and helpful resource for anyone facing end-of-life issues.

Two O’clock Slump (The Hartfield Mysteries Book 3)
In true Chautona fashion, she kept me guessing right up until the very last. There were times where I wanted to wring Alexa’s neck but in the end, she redeemed herself. Clearly, another great story from my favorite Christian fiction author.

I just finished the Inheritance by Tamera Alexander and had to share with you how much I loved it. I’m not surprised how well it was written, since I’ve read other books by this author.
An unexpected inheritance. An unknown future. An unending love.
Determined to tame her younger brother’s rebellious streak, McKenna Ashford accepts her cousin’s invitation to move west, and to begin again. But she quickly discovers that life in Copper Creek, Colorado, is far from what she expected. Shouldering burdens beyond her years, McKenna tries to be the parent Robert needs, instead of the older sister he resents. But an “untimely inheritance” challenges her resolve at every turn, while also offering a second chance to restore her sense of trust–and perhaps even her heart.
U.S. Marshal Wyatt Caradon is dedicated to bringing fugitives to justice, yet years of living on the trail have taken their toll. When his path intersects with that of McKenna, he comes face-to-face with a past he never wanted to relive–and the one woman who can help him find the future he’s been longing for.
As McKenna struggles to let go of her independence and Wyatt considers opening his heart again, they discover an inheritance beyond imagination. But it will come at a price.
