Surprised by Suffering: The Role of Pain and Death in The Christian Life
But what I was looking for in this book I found in this statement “It is when we view our suffering as meaningless – without purpose – that we are tempted to despair.” The knowledge that suffering has a purpose is the focus of the entire book.

Cold-Case Christianity: A Homicide Detective Investigates the Claims of the Gospels
he book is wonderfully written and organized. J. Warner Wallace has done an excellent job writing with both clarity and accessibility, presenting his points with little technical jargon and explaining what jargon he uses (more than once too!). The chapters logically flow and the entire book is written with a layman in mind.
Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity.
A unique apologetic that speaks to readers’ intense interest in detective stories, Cold-Case Christianity inspires readers to have confidence in Christ as it prepares them to articulate the case for Christianity.

What a fun, little cookbook! I had never tried a whoopie pie but I’ve had moon pies – similar to whoopie but another name. None were as good as the ones I made from this cookbook.

Praying Backwards: Transform Your Prayer Life by Beginning in Jesus’ Name
I recently finished Praying Backwards, by Bryan Chapell. The name sounds a bit odd, but it turns out it makes sense. Praying Backwards talks about how learning to pray “in Jesus’ name”, and making this concept central (even first!) in our prayer, can “transform your prayer life”.
Readers seeking to transform their prayer lives will find wonderful direction in Praying Backwards.

No Little People (Introduction by Udo Middelmann)
I found it interesting, inspiring, and a worthwhile read.
Most Christians take an honest look at themselves and conclude that their limited talents, energy, and knowledge mean that they don’t amount to much. Francis A. Schaeffer says that the biblical emphasis is quite different. With God there are no little people!
This book contains sixteen sermons that explore the weakness and significance of humanity in relationship to the infinite and personal God. Each was preached by Schaeffer at L’Abri Fellowship in Switzerland to the community that gathered there to work, learn, and worship together. The focus of this collection is the lasting truth of the Bible, the faithfulness of God, the sufficiency of the work of Christ, and the reality of God’s Spirit in history. The sermons represent a variety of styles-some are topical, some expound Old Testament passages, and still others delve into New Testament texts. No Little People includes theological sermons and messages that focus specifically on daily life and Christian practice. Each sermon is a single unit, and all are valuable for family devotions or other group study and worship. Readers will be encouraged by the value that God places on each person made in His image.

The full title of Kevin DeYoung’s newest book is Taking God At His Word: Why the Bible is Knowable, Necessary, and Enough, and What That Means for You and Me. It’s an incredibly lengthy title, but an incredible book almost deserves such a title!
Can we trust the Bible completely? Is it sufficient for our complicated lives? Can we really know what it teaches?
With his characteristic wit and clarity, award-winning author Kevin DeYoung has written an accessible introduction to the Bible that answers important questions raised by Christians and non-Christians. This book will help you understand what the Bible says about itself and the key characteristics that contribute to its lasting significance.
Avoiding technical jargon, this winsome volume will encourage you to read and believe the Bible—confident that it truly is God’s word.
