Seeing the Unseen: A Daily Dose of Eternal Perspective
I can honestly say it was one of the best books I have ever read.
This is a 60 day devotional, and I finished it in one day, simply couldn’t stop.
Thank you Randy Alcom for this awesome book.
From the author of the bestselling book Heaven, here are 60 meditations that will inspire you to live each day with an eternal perspective.
Spiritually speaking, we live in the Country of the Blind. Sin has blinded us to the truth about God and Heaven, both of which are real yet unseen. But just as the physically blind must accept by faith there are stars in the sky, we must remind ourselves what Scripture tells us about eternal realities.
In daily doses, author Randy Alcorn offers insights on the Christian life along with Scriptures and inspirational quotes that can transform the way you think and live today.
It’s time to open your eyes—and see the unseen.

One of the most interesting cookbooks I’ve ever tried. It’s especially great for me because I’m only cooking for two so there are always leftovers. The tips in it are not the same ones you get in every other book. I love it!
Love Your Leftovers includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert options as well as a wide range of cuisines. Each main dish will have eight to ten creative recipes for leftovers. So, if you make a Roast Chicken one night, you can then make Chicken Tortilla Soup, Creamy Chicken Pesto Pasta, or Chicken and Dumplings another night. A Flank Steak can morph into Spicy Beef Wontons or Vietnamese Noodle Salad. Spicy Black Beans can become Black Bean Burgers or Crunchy Black Bean Tacos. Love Your Leftovers will also feature chapters on kitchen and pantry basics and Meal Planning 101, as well as a helpful index of vegetarian and thirty-minute meals.

I read a lot, and can be difficult to impress; and I’m not an emotional person at all. But I did shed a tear or two during the reading of this book, and that is a good thing!
Seventeen-year-old Molly Fisk does not go outside. She’s ruled by anxiety and only feels safe in the tiny tourist-town museum she and her mother run and call home. Yearning to live free but unable to overcome deep wounds from her past, she stays hidden away. Then the chance arrival of a woman Molly knew six years ago changes everything.
Six years ago, newly single Claire Rodriguez was an empty shell. Only in the unique friendship she strikes up with a young girl–a silent girl who’ll only talk to Claire–does she see the possibility of healing. But one day the girl and her mother vanish, their house abandoned. What happened that drove them away? And how can Claire now offer Molly the same chance at finding a life anew?

It’s a must read for reformed thinkers. Horton puts Calvin in a true perspective on the Christian life.
John Calvin, a man adored by some and maligned by others, stands as a legendary figure in Christian history. In Calvin on the Christian Life, professor Michael Horton offers us fresh insights into the Reformer’s personal piety and practical theology by allowing Calvin to speak in his own words.
Drawing not only from his Institutes and biblical commentaries, but also from lesser-known tracts, treatises, and letters, this book will deepen your understanding of Calvin’s theology and ministry by exploring the heart of his spiritual life: confident trust and unwavering joy in the sovereign grace of God.

A World on Fire: Britain’s Crucial Role in the American Civil War
This wonderful, rich history can’t be beat in terms of sheer real-life drama, complex, vulnerable characters and a depressed, tortured Cabinet in Washington, D.C. trying to deal with a President who has just lost a son to typhoid fever and a thousand other heart-searing problems. “World on Fire” is certainly worth the hard work.
NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY
The Washington Post • The New Yorker • Chicago Tribune • The Economist • Nancy Pearl, NPR • Bloomberg.com • Library Journal • Publishers Weekly
In this brilliant narrative, Amanda Foreman tells the fascinating story of the American Civil War—and the major role played by Britain and its citizens in that epic struggle. Between 1861 and 1865, thousands of British citizens volunteered for service on both sides of the Civil War. From the first cannon blasts on Fort Sumter to Lee’s surrender at Appomattox, they served as officers and infantrymen, sailors and nurses, blockade runners and spies. Through personal letters, diaries, and journals, Foreman introduces characters both humble and grand, while crafting a panoramic yet intimate view of the war on the front lines, in the prison camps, and in the great cities of both the Union and the Confederacy. In the drawing rooms of London and the offices of Washington, on muddy fields and aboard packed ships, Foreman reveals the decisions made, the beliefs held and contested, and the personal triumphs and sacrifices that ultimately led to the reunification of America.
“Engrossing . . . a sprawling drama.”—The Washington Post
“Eye-opening . . . immensely ambitious and immensely accomplished.”—The New Yorker

Why Your Weirdness Is Wonderful: Embrace Your Quirks and Live Your Strengths
The author takes a rather fresh and daring approach to show people how to see the strengths behind their own perceived weaknesses or flaws. Despite plenty of challenges in her own life she never loses her sense of humor and has plenty of real life anecdotes to share with the reader. This is not some academic treatise but, rather, a real story about real people. This book is funny, thought provoking and poignant. I look forward to more works by this new author.
What if who you are right now is exactly who God meant you to be? What if the weirdest, most annoying things about you are actually—for a purpose?
Often we lament about how we relate to God and to the world. We over-think things, worry too much, put things off, argue too much, talk too much, or any number of other griefs. We fight who we are and beg God to make us different.
But what if our greatest strength, biggest gift, and most potential is hidden in the very thing we seek to hide from the rest of the world: our weirdness?
In Why Your Weirdness Is Wonderful, author and certified life coach Laurie Wallin reveals strategies for anyone struggling to find a calling or to find and live their dream. It teaches us to stop fighting ourselves and start following God, not just in spite of, but by embracing our “weirdness.

This novel has just the right blend of suspense, mystery, humor, and compassion to appeal to my middle school students. My students cannot put this book down once they start reading. As a matter of fact, one of my students got so wrapped up in the prose that she missed hearing her bus bell to go home.
In Shakespeare’s Secret Elise Broach showed her keen ability to weave storytelling with history and suspense, and Masterpiece is yet another example of her talent. This time around it’s an irresistible miniature world, fascinating art history, all wrapped up in a special friendship— something for everyone to enjoy.
Masterpiece is a 2009 Bank Street – Best Children’s Book of the Year.

This is a RICH book. From the beginning, Paula’s descriptions and flow draw you into a world you might not be too familiar with – a traditional Biblical Jewish home. I’ve read many books and studied much of the Jewish history, and Paula’s words immediately open the doors of the family home and draw me in. I could see, taste, hear, and feel the environment of this book.
Martha, the elder, is plain and self-conscious; Mary, the younger, is beautiful. One sees her value only in serving, while the other believes her outward appearance is her only asset. Their worlds are turned upside down when Lazarus offers hospitality to an intriguing new teacher named Jesus.
Paula K. Parker’s evocative writing draws readers in, allowing them to feel like a fellow guest sharing the sisters’ wonder at meeting Jesus and his transforming power.
“Sisters of Lazarus is a fun and meaningful read, offering the best of what biblical fiction provides – a tale built around beloved scriptural figures. But Paula Parker goes deeper than just creating an entertaining story featuring Mary and Martha, she explores the eternal question of what it means to be truly beautiful.”
Roma Downey – executive producer of The Bible miniseries and star of TV’s long-running Touched by an Angel
“A riveting story of love, longing and faith. Paula combines masterful storytelling with well-crafted dialogue. The result is a cast of biblical characters fresh, human and real. Through the eyes of Lazarus, Mary and Martha, the reader eagerly connects with three siblings from a normal, dysfunctional family.”

I absolutely loved this book! This is the second book by Lynn Austin that I have read and she definitely is an author I will buy in the future. Austin adds many twists and turns to her stories (to keep you guessing) and also spreads a message of hope and reconciliation. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a family story and loves the historical slant. Definitely check out Eve’s Daughters as well by the same author.

Through the Tears (Sandy Cove Series Book Two 2)
Once again, Rosemary Hines has captured my attention from the first sentence! From the moment I read Michelle was holding the envelope in her trembling hand, I couldn’t put the book down!
Michelle and her family rejoice when her father begins to regain consciousness after an unsuccessful suicide attempt. But a long journey awaits, as they seek to clear his name of the embezzlement charges that drove him to this desperate act. The days of their vigil at the hospital drag into weeks, and Michelle finds herself repeatedly drawn to the newborn nursery. Observing couples leave with tiny babes in their arms, her heart is stirred, and she begins to yearn for a child of her own. However, an unexpected twist will threaten her new dream.
Through the Tears — the second novel in the Sandy Cove series — delivers a message of hope in the midst of longing and disappointment.

The Runaway Quilt: An Elm Creek Quilts Novel (The Elm Creek Quilts)
This is by far the best of the series! Each story in the Quilt series is better than the one before. This is a completely satisfying story: part mystery, part history lesson, and part geneology study.
In her first novel, The Quilter’s Apprentice, Jennifer Chiaverini wove quilting lore with tales from the World War II home front. Now, following Round Robin and The Cross-Country Quilters, Chiaverini revisits the legends of Elm Creek Manor, as Sylvia Compson discovers evidence of her ancestors’ courageous involvement in the Underground Railroad.
Alerted to the possibility that her family had ties to the slaveholding South, Sylvia scours her attic and finds three quilts and a memoir written by Gerda, the spinster sister of clan patriarch Hans Bergstrom. The memoir describes the founding of Elm Creek Manor and how, using quilts as markers, Hans, his wife, Anneke, and Gerda came to beckon fugitive slaves to safety within its walls. When a runaway named Joanna arrives from a South Carolina plantation pregnant with her master’s child, the Bergstroms shelter her through a long, dangerous winter — imagining neither the impact of her presence nor the betrayal that awaits them.
The memoir raises new questions for every one it answers, leading Sylvia ever deeper into the tangle of the Bergstrom legacy. Aided by the Elm Creek Quilters, as well as by descendants of others named in Gerda’s tale, Sylvia dares to face the demons of her family’s past and at the same time reaffirm her own moral center. A spellbinding fugue on the mysteries of heritage, The Runaway Quilt unfolds with all the drama and suspense of a classic in the making.
