Homesteading: Urban Homesteading: A Beginner’s Guide to Self Sufficiency and Sustainable Living in Urban Homes (Gardening for Beginners, Urban Gardening, Homesteading Ideas)

Jennifer Ross

Urban homesteading is a very interesting subject, and I’m glad I found this book! It. It is created to help you understand and appreciate the concepts of Homesteading. It gives out brilliant ideas about the topic that you would never have thought that a homesteading could be done in an urban setting. A great read!

Melissa Angcon

DISCOVER: How to lead a self-sufficient and sustainable life in an urban city!

Fed up of consuming mass produced packaged food ?Interested to grow a healthy harvest in your own terrace or balcony? Want to take up gardening as a hobby to relax and rejuvenate your mind? Do you want to save the money that you spend at the expensive organic store? Looking for ways to lead a simplistic life by causing minimum harm to the environment? Urban Homesteading is the solution.

What is Urban Homesteading?

Before people started buying bread and eggs from stores, everyone raised poultry in their backyards and baked bread at their homes. Homesteading is an ancient concept; however, urban homesteading has revived the old techniques of self-sufficiency and adapted them to suit the urban dwellers’ needs. Urban homesteading is not a single concept; it is a collection of various techniques and practices. It includes growing vegetables and fruits, raising animals, preserving food, making bread, cheese and yogurt at home, spinning and knitting, making cleaning products, using solar and wind energy, conserving water and making fertilizers and compost. It is the attempt to consume products made at home and create products rather than purchase mass-produced products from stores.

Radical Womanhood: Feminine Faith in a Feminist World

Carolyn McCulley

I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone seeking to learn more about the topics of feminism (especially its impact on the Christian church), biblical manhood and womanhood, complementarianism, and “the mommy wars.”

Tara Klena Barthel

Biblical womanhood is not for the weak. In an age that seeks to obliterate
God and His authority, modeling biblical womanhood involves spiritual warfare. Radical
Womanhood seeks to equip new believers and long-time Christians alike,
exposing the anti-God agenda of the three waves of feminism to date and presenting
the pro-woman truth of the Scriptures. Illustrated with numerous personal testimonies,
this book will dig deep into the Word and show how it can be lived out today. The
foundation and core message of Radical Womanhood is consistent with the
traditional complementarian teaching on biblical womanhood. However, the target
audience, tone, and style are radically different. Most books on this subject take
a heavily didactic tone that assumes an awareness of Christian lingo and a high
degree of spiritual maturity. Radical Womanhood has the narrative approach
appreciated by postmodern readers, but still incorporates solid, biblically-based
teaching for personal application and growth.

We Two: Victoria and Albert: Rulers, Partners, Rivals

We Two: Victoria and Albert: Rulers, Partners, Rivals

Gillian Gill

Very we’ll written. I felt like I was in the midst of it all while reading the book. I highly recommend this book.

VAM

BONUS: This edition contains a reader’s guide.

It was the most influential marriage of the nineteenth century–and one of history’ s most enduring love stories. Traditional biographies tell us that Queen Victoria inherited the throne as a naïve teenager, when the British Empire was at the height of its power, and seemed doomed to find failure as a monarch and misery as a woman until she married her German cousin Albert and accepted him as her lord and master. Now renowned chronicler Gillian Gill turns this familiar story on its head, revealing a strong, feisty queen and a brilliant, fragile prince working together to build a family based on support, trust, and fidelity, qualities neither had seen much of as children. The love affair that emerges is far more captivating, complex, and relevant than that depicted in any previous account.

The epic relationship began poorly. The cousins first met as teenagers for a few brief, awkward, chaperoned weeks in 1836. At seventeen, charming rather than beautiful, Victoria already “showed signs of wanting her own way.” Albert, the boy who had been groomed for her since birth, was chubby, self-absorbed, and showed no interest in girls, let alone this princess. So when they met again in 1839 as queen and presumed prince-consort-to-be, neither had particularly high hopes. But the queen was delighted to discover a grown man, refined, accomplished, and whiskered. “Albert is beautiful!” Victoria wrote, and she proposed just three days later.

As Gill reveals, Victoria and Albert entered their marriage longing for intimate companionship, yet each was determined to be the ruler. This dynamic would continue through the years–each spouse, headstrong and impassioned, eager to lead the marriage on his or her own terms. For two decades, Victoria and Albert engaged in a very public contest for dominance. Against all odds, the marriage succeeded, but it was always a work in progress. And in the end, it was Albert’s early death that set the Queen free to create the myth of her marriage as a peaceful idyll and her husband as Galahad, pure and perfect.

As Gill shows, the marriage of Victoria and Albert was great not because it was perfect but because it was passionate and complicated. Wonderfully nuanced, surprising, often acerbic–and informed by revealing excerpts from the pair’s journals and letters–We Two is a revolutionary portrait of a queen and her prince, a fascinating modern perspective on a couple who have become a legend.

Bonhoeffer on the Christian Life: From the Cross, for the World (Theologians on the Christian Life)

Bonhoeffer on the Christian Life: From the Cross, for the World (Theologians on the Christian Life)

Stephen J. Nichols

If you love biography and theology, Bonhoeffer won’t let you down. If you love Jesus and his Church (or if you’re disillusioned with her), Bonhoeffer will show you what faith that has seen the risen Christ looks and acts like. The man Bonhoeffer will intrigue because we see so few genuine examples of faith in the crucible of life. Bonhoeffer will teach you how to live and die well.

Mathew Sims

Dietrich Bonhoeffer died a martyr’s death at the young age of 39 and still he remains as one of the most influential theologians of our time. His writings teach us the value of cross-centered theology, and his courageous actions against the Nazi regime compel us to consider the cost of discipleship. From Bonhoeffer we learn that the Christian life is lived both alone and together, and that there is a stark difference between cheap and costly grace. With insight, clarity, and wisdom, Stephen Nichols guides us through the word and deeds of this humble yet heroic pastor, whose example shows us that the heart of the Christian’s life flows from the cross, for the world.

The Road to Mercy

Kathy Harris

Absolutely one of my favorite books I’ve read in a long time. God is good. This book made me think about my own faith. In fact it made me realize my lack of it. Great story and great characters. I highly suggest this book. I read it in two days. Would gave finished in one but life got in the way.

Twins Mawmaw 2006 Penny M.

A rupture in Beth’s carotid artery leaves her on the brink of death even as she’s pregnant with their first child. During the next few months, Josh struggles with his faith, Beth hides a secret that may destroy their marriage. She also discovers a decades-old connection to Dr. Abrams that could change his life forever.

I was pleased with the storyline, the relationships drew me in and made putting the book down difficult, and I loved the balance she obtained by McKenna’s severe independance yet desperate need for DEPENDANCE. Swimming to the Surface

Swimming to the Surface

Kristin Billerbeck

Swimming to the Surface is not the usual product that you’d expect from Kristin Billerbeck. This is a thoughtful book about serious issues but has the beautiful gift of hope throughout it and I finished it with a smile on my face. (Now and then there is a little bit of her trademark wit in it, which is a nice surprise each time.) I found this book intriguing as it is not chick lit but Kristin has shown she has a talent for many different genres.

Now, she must make a choice to drown under the weight of her past or resurface triumphantly in the faith and hope she left behind.

Alex Bechtel traded his successful CPA business for his first love: Pastoring a small church in a quaint seaside village. But when he discovers the church is long on rules and short on compassion, he must question his decisions and his own definition of faith.

Can two people with troubled pasts find hope and love in one another? Or is Swimming to the Surface worth the effort?
