Rejected – Four Week Mini Bible Study (Becoming Press Mini Bible Studies)
This study is exactly what I needed. I have dealt with rejection of all sorts for a long time and have let it keep me from living a full life in God. This study is short but packs a a big punch. The study walks you through the path of healing, forgiveness and journey towards acceptance.
Rejection is a powerful force in our life and our Christian walk. It effects our confidence in God and His call on our life. But little do we know the power we have to let go of the control it has on us.
Rejection is also an attitude that results in an action that looks a lot like putting space between you and someone who has hurt you.
I pray this book will bless you in a way where you will release idols and embrace acceptance in your life rather than the lie of rejection.
Table of Contents:

Chapter 1: Rejection is a Lie
Chapter 2: When is Rejection OK?

All God’s Children (The Peacemakers)
Anna Schmidt has a strong writing style and I enjoyed this book very much. I hope to read the rest of the books in the trilogy. I had no idea that the Religious Society of Friends existed or were Quakers who rescued many Germans during the war with Germany.

Night Before Dawn (Grete’s Story)
This true tale reads like a really well written fiction and I found it surprisingly difficult to put down. A history lesson on what life was like during this crucial time in history but uniquely written from the female perspective. This book deserves a spot at the top of your reading list and you’ll want to share it with friends. If you’re looking for your next book club selection, look no further!

Seriously Simple Parties: Recipes, Menus & Advice for Effortless Entertaining
you’re ready for some different dishes for your parties, but not up for cooking Veal Orloff for a big crowd, this is a great book. It doesn’t have a LOT of recipes, but the ones I’ve tried have been fairly easy and delicious, and could easily be adapted in some different directions depending on your taste. I didn’t notice any ingredients that I couldn’t get at my local Whole Foods. The book has great food photos, too.

I Am Hutterite: The Fascinating True Story of a Young Woman’s Journey to reclaim Her Heritage
Mary-Ann Kirkby is a wonderful writer. Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. Reading her memoir is like reminiscing with a close friend.
A Fascinating journey into the heart and culture of a reclusive religious community.
I Am Hutterite takes readers into the hidden heart of the little-known Hutterite colony in southern Manitoba where author Mary-Ann Kirkby spent her childhood. When she was ten years old her parents packed up their seven children and a handful of possessions and left the security of the colony to start a new life. Overnight they were thrust into a world they didn’t understand, a world that did not understand them.
Before she left the colony Mary-Ann had never tasted macaroni and cheese or ridden a bike. She had never heard of Walt Disney or rock-and-roll. She was forced to reinvent herself, denying her heritage to fit in with her peers. With great humor, Kirkby describes how she adapted to popular culture; and with raw honesty her family’s deep sense of loss for their community. More than a history lesson, I Am Hutterite is a powerful tale of retracing steps and understanding how our beginnings often define us.
Controversial and acclaimed by the Hutterite community, Kirkby’s book unveils the rich history and traditions of her people, giving us a rare and intimate portrait of an extraordinary way of life.

Walking with Lincoln: Spiritual Strength from America’s Favorite President
The book is full of interesting facts that any Lincoln fan may not be aware of, like the time he walked 6 miles to get a copy of ENGLISH GRAMMAR to improve his speaking and writing skills, or the time he spent 5 hours standing to salute 30,000 troops marching through Washington.
Walking with Lincoln offers readers fifty spiritual principles from the life and words of Lincoln, from his days as a youth to his presidency. Anyone looking for inspiration to rise above life’s hardships will find encouragement and strength through this look at the faith of America’s favorite president.

The author is to be commended for working very hard on his marriage and being so generous to share about it in this memoir; his wife is a delight and a joy to love her husband deeply and with strong boundaries. This couple figured out how to get through life together and be happy. If you’d like to read about how they did that, and you’d like to see the world through the eyes of someone with AS, you will certainly enjoy this book. Highly recommended.
At some point in nearly every marriage, a wife finds herself asking, What the @#!% is wrong with my husband?! In David Finch’s case, this turns out to be an apt question. Five years after he married Kristen, the love of his life, they learn that he has Asperger syndrome. The diagnosis explains David’s ever-growing list of quirks and compulsions, but it doesn’t make him any easier to live with.
Determined to change, David sets out to understand Asperger syndrome and learn to be a better husband with an endearing yet hilarious zeal. His methods for improving his marriage involve excessive note-taking, performance reviews, and most of all, the Journal of Best Practices: a collection of hundreds of maxims and hard-won epiphanies, including “Don’t change the radio station when she’s singing along” and “Apologies do not count when you shout them.” Over the course of two years, David transforms himself from the world’s most trying husband to the husband who tries the hardest. He becomes the husband he’d always meant to be.
Filled with humor and surprising wisdom, The Journal of Best Practices is a candid story of ruthless self-improvement, a unique window into living with an autism spectrum condition, and proof that a true heart can conquer all.

I found this book an absolutely fascinating read and it is written in an easy approachable style. In my opinion it can only add to anyone’s pleasure in reading Jane Austen’s novels. There are plenty of notes on the text and a bibliography which will give the interested reader plenty of other texts to study.

As a reader, I always like reading a book that moves along. McCullough’s narrative does that quite well.
Well researched and paced for the non-historian, 1776 is a winner. When all is said and done, you’ll find that 1776 is worth the time you’ll spend reading it.
In this masterful book, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence—when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed and the noble ideals of the Declaration would have amounted to little more than words on paper.
Based on extensive research in both American and British archives, 1776 is a powerful drama written with extraordinary narrative vitality. It is the story of Americans in the ranks, men of every shape, size, and color, farmers, schoolteachers, shoemakers, no-accounts, and mere boys turned soldiers. And it is the story of the King’s men, the British commander, William Howe, and his highly disciplined redcoats who looked on their rebel foes with contempt and fought with a valor too little known.
Written as a companion work to his celebrated biography of John Adams, David McCullough’s 1776 is another landmark in the literature of American history.

America the Beautiful: Rediscovering What Made This Nation Great
I was very impressed with Dr. Carson’s knowledge of American history and the current political situation of the United States. It is very sad to see Americans deviate from the principles that made our country great and I’m glad that there are people, like Dr. Carson, who actually care

This is the story of Chuck Norris. I really enjoyed it and wish everyone would read it. Many know that Chuck was a 6 time undefeated professional world champion of Karate. Many have seem the movies he has made. Most people have seen his TV series, “Walker, Texas Ranger.” But other than that we know little of who he really is. Chuck Norris is one of the more down to earth Hollywood types who has had his share of ups and downs.

Ella Enchanted (Trophy Newbery)
It is a page- turning novel that you can sit down and read for hours. This book has mystery, love, and magic. I loved this novel because it always made me look forward to reading it. Also, I was amazed in how the author, Gail Carson Levine, turned a simple childish story into a enchanting novel.
How can a fairy’s blessing be such a curse?
At her birth, Ella of Frell was the unfortunate recipient of a foolish fairy’s gift — the “gift’ of obedience. Ella must obey any order given to her, whether it’s hopping on one foot for a day and a half, or chopping off her own head! But strong-willed Ella does not tamely accept her fate. Against a bold backdrop of princes, ogres, giants, wicked stepsisters, and fairy godmothers, Ella goes on a quest to break the curse — once and for all.
In this incredible debut novel comes the richly entertaining story of Ella of Frell, who at birth was given the gift of obedience by a fairy. Ella soon realizes that this gift is little better than a curse, for how can she truly be herself if at anytime anyone can order her to hop on one foot, or cut off her hand, or betray her kingdom’and she’ll have to obey? Against a bold tapestry of princes, ogres, giants, wicked stepsisters, and fairy godmothers, Ella’s quest to break the curse once and for all and discover who she really is is as sharply funny as Catherine, Called Birdy and as richly poignant as Beauty, and has all the marks of a classic in the making.

I read it to my own children who absolutely LOVED IT! Even my 11 year old son begged for me to read to the end. This is a good chapter book to read to your children although, like mine, they may not let you wait to read to the end!

Manuscript for Murder (The Hartfield Mysteries Book 1)
Mrs. Havig has proven before that she’s good at writing believable characters. This book is no exception.
Then someone made her life a literary cliché. A mysterious accident with a light bulb sparked an interesting idea for her latest novel—and for Fairbury’s new serial killer. The first replication infuriated her. The second left an even worse taste in her mouth. The third blasted more than her self-confidence, and the fourth beat her down so far she’s considering giving up writing completely.
Who is killing Fairbury’s citizens, and furthermore, why and how are they using her novels to do it?

Pearl of Promise (A Sweet Mail Order Bride Western) (The Brides of Carville Book 1)
This is a most unusual mail-order bride romance novella. As I read, the story that unfolded caught me completely by surprise. First of all, it is impossible to tell that this is Ms. King’s first book. It’s so extremely well written! Not to mention, the book is beautifully edited. Furthermore, the characters are wonderfully well developed
Silver miner Arlen Hunt has already lost one wife to betrayal–then death–and it takes five lonely years to open his heart again. Only Nora, with her pioneer spirit, seems brave enough to endure the Colorado wilderness.
But when Nora’s dream of an amazing frontier life evaporates in the face of isolation and boredom, she fears she has made a mistake. Can she find purpose and joy in the path God has chosen, or will her ambitions endanger the life of someone she loves?
[A sweet inspirational western historical novella.]
