Vertical Church: What Every Heart Longs for. What Every Church Can Be.

Vertical Church: What Every Heart Longs for. What Every Church Can Be.

James MacDonald

What every church should be. Captures the real purpose of the church! I would recommend this to every church leader.

Bruce Graham

An emergency call, and I rush from my coziness into the dark community where the police have requested a chaplain. Arriving in minutes, I find the family imploding with grief having just discovered their son hanging in the garage. In a moment of unshakable pain, he jumped off the ladder and into eternity. And I will never shake the look in their eyes when I asked why he hadn’t called a church. “Why would he do that?” Across town, a pool of tears on my kitchen table as an out of town guest feels the weight of his infidelity, despairing that his famished soul finds no refuge and that he has to board a plane to feel fellowship. “Has your church tried to help you?” And the Christian leader confesses he hasn’t been to church in years.

Infighting, backbiting, heartbreaking, frustrating … church.

Though exceptions do exist, the reality is that church in America is failing one life at a time. Somewhere between pathetically predictable and shamefully entertaining, sadly sentimental and rarely authentic, church has become worst of all … godless.

Vertical Church points to a new day where God is the seeker, and we are the ones found. In Vertical Church God shows up, and that changes everything.

If you want to experience God as you never have before and witness His hand at work, if you want to wake up to the first thought, “Thank God it’s Sunday,” if you’re ready to feel your heart beat faster as you drive to your place of worship … then devour and digest the lessons of Vertical Church.

Life in Christ: Becoming and Being a Disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ

Life in Christ: Becoming and Being a Disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ

Jeremy Walker

This is a wonderful book about following Christ, founding our hope in Him, and reminding us that our assurance is found in his mighty work on our behalf than our fluctuating feelings.

Sheep23

“To be a disciple of Jesus Christ is to be in a position of privilege and blessing beyond anything the world might offer,” begins author Jeremy Walker. Life in Christ explores the unsearchable riches of the Christian pilgrimage and traces its trajectory, highlighting key elements in the believer’s experience. Do you wrestle with assurance? Have you grasped the engagement demanded in Christian living? Do you find the way wearying at times? Do you struggle with your Christian identity? Walker provides instruction for Christians to assess their own standing and progress in the faith—exhorting and equipping and always pointing them ahead to the hope of the glory of Christ. Along the way, he encourages God’s people to live a life to the praise of His glory as he examines some of the basic truths that establish and direct a true child of God.
Author Jeremy Walker is a pastor of Maidenbower Baptist Church in Crawley, England, coauthor of A Portrait of Paul: Identifying a True Minister of Christ, and author of The Brokenhearted Evangelist.

Endorsements “In his new book, my good friend Jeremy Walker, in a most breathtaking way, vividly opens up the beauties and glories of becoming and being a disciple of Christ. In reading this work I was greatly moved and reminded afresh of the wonders of my salvation and was tearfully left praising God for all that He has done in my life. Since no other subject in the Word of God is more important than the one addressed in this volume, I cannot commend it too highly.” — Rob Ventura, Pastor, Grace Community Baptist Church, North Providence, Rhode Island, co-author of A Portrait of Paul

“One of the most neglected topics of our day happens to be one of the most essential aspects of our Christian lives—our union with Christ. You will be grateful to know that this gaping hole is being wonderfully filled with Jeremy Walker’s new book, Life in Christ. Jeremy writes with a theological precision, exegetical clarity, and pastoral sensitivity that promise this book to be a very useful resource not just for those seeking to grow more in Christ but even unbelievers needing to know why Christ is to be so treasured. Read this book and prepare to be amazed afresh of what it means for us as sinners to be in Christ and partakers of his heavenly reward.” — Brian Croft, senior pastor, Auburndale Baptist Church, and founder and ministry development director of Practical Shepherding

“In this splendid book on the very central issues of eternity, Jeremy Walker, like J. C. Ryle of old, carries the reader along with an excellent, gripping style. It is a book that everyone should read—and then pass on to others who need an explanation of the true gospel, especially those slaves of political correctness sadly found in many modern pulpits.” — Erroll Hulse, pastor, conference speaker, author, and founding editor of Reformation Today

“In this well-ordered book, Jeremy Walker provides a straightforward presentation of what it is to become and live as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Following Christ is not a matter of secondary importance but should be of critical concern for every reader of this book. Each page is saturated with scriptural truths that are easy to read but challenging to apply regarding this vital subject of discipleship. I highly recommend this work, which is doctrinally sound, persuasively presented, and pastorally related.” — Steven J. Lawson, senior pastor, Christ Fellowship Baptist Church, Mobile, Alabama

Heart Warriors: A Family Faces Congenital Heart Disease

Heart Warriors: A Family Faces Congenital Heart Disease

Amanda Rose Adams

I absolutely loved (and still love because I am sure I will read it over and over again) this book. I am a heart mom too and Amanda managed to share so much of how I felt and feel throughout her book. The hope that resonates is inspiring and the words flow so easily. I found myself laughing, crying, and understanding every single word. As an advocate for heart kids, families, and the world…she is amazing. I am proud to be a heart mom…especially when there are women like Amanda to represent us so well.

PWodzisz

“Anyone who has ever suffered grief, in any form, will benefit from this passionately honest book. Grief is Amanda Adams’ constant companion, both her oppressor and her guide, as she gropes her way through a heart-rending experience.”–Kristin Henderson, author of While They’re at War: The True Story of American Families on the Homefront

Five months pregnant, Amanda Adams and her husband were given two abysmal choices regarding her pregnancy: force her baby to fight for his life through countless invasive and dangerous surgeries, or perform a late term abortion. Despite the fact that Liam was missing half his heart, Amanda chose life.

Amanda’s emotional plate was full as she found herself redefining the usual expectations a mother has for her child. Instead of wondering where he’d go to college, she wondered if he would survive his first birthday. The eventual acceptance of Amanda’s grief helped her accept her new role as a powerful advocate. Over the course of seven years, together, as a family, Amanda and her husband helped Liam endure twelve heart surgeries, each time taking him to the brink of death.

Heart Warriors is Amanda’s personal and emotional story that initiates a powerful dialogue about infant mortality and hope.

Until I Say Good-Bye: A Book About Living

Until I Say Good-Bye: A Book About Living

Susan Spencer-Wendel

This woman defined the word “Brave”. Her ability to accept, live her life in joy and emotionally support her husband, children and friends- this defines her book. Loved it and found it life-affirming, in the face of a very nasty disease.

Christine A. Dalton

In June 2011, Susan Spencer-Wendel learned she had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)—Lou Gehrig’s disease—an irreversible condition that systematically destroys the nerves that power the muscles. She was forty-four years old, with a devoted husband and three young children, and she had only one year of health remaining.

Susan decided to live that year with joy.

She quit her job as a journalist and spent time with her family. She built an outdoor meeting space for friends in her backyard. And she took seven trips with the seven most important people in her life. As her health declined, Susan journeyed to the Yukon, Hungary, the Bahamas, and Cyprus. She took her sons to swim with dolphins, and her teenage daughter, Marina, to Kleinfeld’s bridal shop in New York City to see her for the first and last time in a wedding dress.

She also wrote this book. No longer able to walk or even to lift her arms, she tapped it out letter by letter on her iPhone using only her right thumb, the last finger still working.

However, Until I Say Good-Bye is not angry or bitter. It is sad in parts—how could it not be?—but it is filled with Susan’s optimism, joie de vivre, and sense of humor. It is a book about life, not death. One that, like Susan, will make everyone smile.

From the Burger King parking lot where she cried after her diagnosis to a snowy hot spring near the Arctic Circle, from a hilarious family Christmas disaster to the decrepit monastery in eastern Cyprus where she rediscovered her heritage, Until I Say Good-Bye is not only Susan Spencer-Wendel’s unforgettable gift to her loved ones—a heartfelt record of their final experiences together—but an offering to all of us: a reminder that “every day is better when it is lived with joy.”

˃˃˃ WHAT READERS ARE SAYING

“As a fantasy fiction writer I have to admit that I am a harsher critic when it comes to novels in this genre. Books in this class I feel should be able captivate the imagination and place you in a different realm. AEGIS RISING accomplishes that and a whole lot more. It is truly a classic in the making!” ~ Michael Beas – Bestselling Author of ‘Strump’ ~

“If you are looking for a fresh, engaging and unique YA read, this is IT! No vampires, no zombies, no dragons, no teenage love distractions; Only pure, action, adventure, intrigue, mystery, dash of sci-fi, AWESOME characters and an AMAZING plot! This is story-telling at its best. The pacing is great. It starts with a bang then slows down to build the plot and give depth to the characters, then picks up at a furious pace before slowing down slightly to develop two parallel threads before rocketing at break neck speed to a double whammy climax, ending in a cliff-hanger! What can I say except, ’Give me book two NOW!” Jason A. Joseph

“I could easily see something like this being turned into a movie someday. Gems like this one will surprise and please you!” ~ K.S.Puckett

“This novel is listed as a Sci-Fi and having read it, I feel that that may not be the best box to put it in. In fact I don’t think this novel will fit into any box! It has so many wonderful elements in it that blends well into an amazing story. It is not purely Sci-Fi or Action-Adventure or Thriller, or Mystery or Dystopian or Fantasy or Coming of Age; BUT all of that and more, in measured doses. S.S.Segran has brought all of those elements together (whether she intended it or not) and magically weaved them together into one of the most engaging novels I have read in a very long time. Well done! I will definitely be following this young author.” ~ Mark – Goodreads Review ~

“This is an exceptional book that will easily fall within the same realm as other mega successful stories of teenage adventure. Would not be surprised to see this adapted into a blockbuster movie.” ~WL Johnson~

There's a Baby in There!

There’s a Baby in There!

Dandi Daley Mackall

We love this book with “Angel in the Waters” to explain pregnancy to our small children. They know that “mommy is going to have another baby” and this is a fun story, with simply, bright pictures that explains that concept. The book is easy to read, engaging (the kids don’t look for other things to do when we are reading it), and makes a great addition to the library.

A Regular Joe

There’s a baby in there. At least that’s what Mama and Papa tell me. I don’t think so. I was in there once, four years ago. I didn’t see anybody else.

A little boy chimp wonders what it would be like to have a baby brother or even . . . a sister? But no matter what anyone says, he still doesn’t believe there’s a baby in his mother’s belly—until one day, there’s proof! This delightful text by Dandi Daley Mackall is illustrated with rich humor and detail by Carlynn Whitt in acrylic, colored pencil, and wax crayon on watercolor paper.

No Safe Harbor (Edge of Freedom Book #1)

No Safe Harbor (Edge of Freedom Book #1)

Elizabeth Ludwig

No Safe Harbor, by Elizabeth Ludwig, is the first book in the Edge of Freedom series. I enjoyed this read, as it was not at all a cliche fiction plot, or even just your typical sweet story. While it is definitely an easy read, this book draws you in to a story that begins at Ellis Island. There are secrets, murders, revenge, and lies, all set in the historical time period of the late 1800s.

GodsVesselJan00

The Thrill of Romantic Suspense Meets the Romance of 1800s America

Lured by a handful of scribbled words across a faded letter, Cara Hamilton sets off from 1896 Ireland on a quest to find the brother she’d thought dead. Her search lands her in America, amidst a houseful of strangers and one man who claims to be a friend–Rourke Walsh.

Despite her brother’s warning, Cara decides to trust Rourke and reveals the truth about her purpose in America. But he is not who he claims to be, and as rumors begin to circulate about an underground group of dangerous revolutionaries, Cara’s desperation grows. Her questions lead her ever closer to her brother, but they also bring her closer to destruction as Rourke’s true intentions come to light.

Deliver Us from Evil

Deliver Us from Evil

Robin Caroll

I couldn’t put this book down and stayed up way too late reading two nights in a row. It’s a suspenseful page turner with tension that never lets up. Robin did a great job with the technical details and research, so that I really felt like I was a part of the story and the characters were real. I also liked how the spiritual thread was woven in as a natural response to the characters’ life experience. Very realistic.

Jennifer L. Tiszai

A beautiful yet tough woman working in a beautiful yet tough setting, Brannon Callahan is a search and rescue helicopter pilot for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Strong faith and a decorated history of service have kept her one step ahead of on-the-job dangers, but there’s no precedent for what’s about to happen. After a blizzard takes down a small plane carrying U.S. Marshal Roark Holland (already haunted by a recent tragedy), Brannon must save him in more ways than one and safeguard the donor heart he’s transporting to a government witness on the edge of death. Otherwise the largest child trafficking ring in history—with shocking links from Thailand to Tennessee—will slip further away into darkness along the Appalachian Trail.

The Singing Quilt (The Quilt Series)

Kathi Macias

I loved learning about Fanny Crosby with Jolissa. Eva is the grandma we all wish we had. These characters become like family.
Kathi, has really done her research for this book. I really enjoyed reading it and the neat thing was I learned a lot while reading this book.
If you are looking for a book to get away from the world we live in this is your book.
I gave this book 5 stars two times. I HIGHLY recommend this book.

M.Fields

Jolissa Montoya believes God is calling her to work with the disadvantaged children in her inner-city neighborhood. There’s only one problem: The children wouldn’t be able to understand her. Jolissa suffers from a speech impediment and has a thick accent because Spanish is her first language. Ridiculed through much of her youth, she is quite shy and reticent to speak. She is convinced that what God has spoken to her heart is impossible. Impossible, that is, until one day when her confidante shows her a quilt—a quilt that depicts the life of a courageous woman. Can another woman’s courage move her to try the impossible and step out and follow God wherever He leads her?

The Singing Quilt is set against the backdrop of the life of Fanny Crosby, who in addition to writing hundreds of songs was also a well-known public speaker and active in Christian rescue missions despite her disability. Readers will be inspired not to let fear or a disability prevent them from answering what they think is God’s impossible call.

The Singing Quilt is the third book in the contemporary fiction “Quilt” series written by award-winning author Kathi Macias. The series focuses on various social issues, including racial and pro-life issues. Supplemental online book club materials will be available at NewHopeDigital.com.

Leave It to Chance: A Novel

Leave It to Chance: A Novel

Sherri Sand

This is an engaging inspirational family drama in which a mother and her three kids feel abandoned by God and a rat of a husband-father until Chance and then Ross come into their lives. The key to this enjoyable tale is the ensemble cast is full blooded with issues and doubts that make them seem real (can’t say human as Chance is quite a title character). Fans will appreciate Sherri Sand’s fine tale of a horse leading people to each other and back to God, who has time for everyone.

Harriet Klausner

Single mom of three, Sierra Montgomery is desperate to find a new job to keep from having to move back home and be smothered to death by her mother’s good intentions and overbearing love. So when Sierra inherits Chance, a quirky old gelding she doesn’t have a clue what to do with, she thinks her best bet may be to sell the horse to cover another month’s rent-a decision that devastates her children.

Enter Ross Morgan, a handsome landscaper who just happens to have an empty barn and fenced pasture, perfect for an old horse to live out his days as the pet of three wounded kids. Ross develops a soft spot for eldest child Braden and he just might have one for Braden’s mother. But what he doesn’t have is time for distractions-he’s got a landscaping business to run and nursery plants to tend.

But Sierra has a secret. She’s terrified of horses and—thanks to her past—wary of attractive men. Yet seeing the way her angry son idolizes Ross and adores that old horse forces Sierra to confront her fears. Will she remain distrustful and self-reliant, or will she seek help from God and those who love her?

Neta Jackson (Author), Dave Jackson (Author)

I LOVE Neta and Dave’s writings!! All of the books are contemporary and relatable. I always find myself praising God along with the characters. This book serves as a reminder that God is always there and He always keeps His promises. I LOVE ‘The Penny Experiment’. If God can provide something as simple as a penny a day, what ELSE will He do for you!!

Tasha

PENNY WISE (Book 3 in the Windy City Neighbors series) introduces us to yet another family in “the neighborhood”-the Jaspers, busy with demanding jobs, busy with church, busy volunteering, parents of three active teenagers, juggling sometimes crazy schedules. All good things. Until all those “good things” feed into a series of crises that affects the whole family. Something’s gotta change!

PENNY WISE is a contemporary peek at an urban family wrestling with the spiritual and practical challenges of real life. The series employs the innovating storytelling technique of “parallel novels,” each with its own drama and story arc, but whose characters’ lives become intertwined with their neighbors and affect one another. Welcome to Beecham Street-a typical, isolated American neighborhood that is beginning to come out of its shell . . . for better or worse.
