Man of God: Leading Your Family by Allowing God to Lead You

Man of God: Leading Your Family by Allowing God to Lead You

Charles Stanley

It brought to light so many things I as a father need to be responsible for. It helped to clarify what God wants me to do as the leader of the household. And where I stand as his son. Great book. I would recommend it to any father/husband out there.

Nathan Hostetter

What does it take to be a “real” man?

You don’t have to be perfect to be a man of God. As Dr. Charles Stanley writes, a man of God is a maturing man, a striving man, a knowledgeable man. And the first step in real manhood is spiritual rebirth.

In Man of God, Dr. Stanley asks and answers questions such as these:

What can we learn about manhood from Jesus’s example?
How does a true leader allow God to lead him?
Why is a godly man “both velvet and steel”?
What does it look like to be a provider?
What does it mean to lead with sensitivity?

Man of God will challenge and equip you to become a better leader, teacher, father, and husband. What makes a man? The answer starts here.

Stuck in the Middle (Sister-to-Sister Book #1): A Novel

Virginia Smith

Loved it and if you love romantic books you will too. I also loved that it was a “Christian” book in that it was centered about this woman, her life, and how her relationship with God was helping to shape her life

Strange Fire: The Danger of Offending the Holy Spirit with Counterfeit Worship

Strange Fire: The Danger of Offending the Holy Spirit with Counterfeit Worship

John MacArthur

This is one of the best books that John MacArthur has ever written. Everyone interested in World Evangelism must read this book.

Bettie Hinken

What would God say
about those who blatantly misrepresent His Holy Spirit; who exchange true
worship for chaotic fits of mindless ecstasy; who replace the biblical gospel
with vain illusions of health and wealth; who claim to prophesy in His name yet
speak errors; and who sell false hope to desperate people for millions of
dollars?

The charismatic movement has always been a breeding-ground
for scandal, greed, bad doctrine, and all kinds of spiritual chicanery. As a
movement, it is clearly headed the wrong direction. And it is growing at an
unprecedented rate.

From the Word of Faith to the New Apostolic Reformation, the
Charismatic movement is being consumed by the empty promises of the prosperity
gospel. Too many charismatic celebrities promote a “Christianity” without
Christ, a Holy Spirit without holiness. And their teaching is having a
disastrous influence on a grand scale, as large television networks broadcast
their heresies to every part of the world.

In Strange Fire,
bestselling author and pastor John MacArthur chronicles the unsavory history
behind the modern Charismatic movement. He lays out a chilling case for
rejecting its false prophets, speaking out against their errors, showing true
reverence to the Holy Spirit, and above all clinging to the Bible as the inerrant,
authoritative Word of God and the one true standard by which all truth claims
must be tested.

The Freedom of Self Forgetfulness

The Freedom of Self Forgetfulness

Timothy Keller

The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness was truly a joy to read as well as a reality check as it exposed the depths of pride in my heart. I read the whole thing in one sitting which is best but I encourage readers to read it all the way through several days in a row. The further you read the more the point becomes clear. Just when I thought I had an idea of what gospel-humility was I read this book and realized I still had no idea. This is a must read for any Christian living in the self-absorbed culture of our day that has crept its way into the pews of our churches and the seats of our homes.

Life Long Reader

‘What are the marks of a supernaturally changed heart?’

This is one of the questions the Apostle Paul addresses as he writes to the church in Corinth. He’s not after some superficial outward tinkering, but instead a deep–rooted, life–altering change that takes place on the inside. In an age where pleasing people, puffing up your ego and building your résumé are seen as the methods to ‘make it’, the Apostle Paul calls us to find true rest in blessed self–forgetfulness.

In this short and punchy book, best–selling author Timothy Keller, shows that gospel–humility means we can stop connecting every experience, every conversation with ourselves and can thus be free from self–condemnation. A truly gospel–humble person is not a self–hating person or a self–loving person, but a self–forgetful person.

This freedom can be yours…

Disciplines of a Godly Woman

Disciplines of a Godly Woman

Barbara Hughes

Written in a very personal tone, Hughes is able to encourage her audience toward godliness, with theologically sound concepts and practical suggestions for growth. This is a book that every woman from teenagers to seniors ought to read, either in personal study or with a small accountability group. Highly recommended.

Anne Walker, Christian Book Previews.com

Discipline.

For many of us, the word alone evokes dread. It’s not that we don’t want to be disciplined physically, mentally, and spiritually. The challenge seems too hard, and the motivation more about duty than desire. When it comes to our Christian walk, we don’t want to be legalistic and just follow some set of rules. That’s not what it’s all about, right?

Barbara Hughes answers with this encouraging reality: The true heart of spiritual discipline is a relationship with God. As you grow in that relationship, embracing your heavenly Father and his ways, you discover that discipline is your lifeline to him. It is how he gives meaningful shape to all the days of your life.

The “dread” of a disciplined life will be replaced with desire and anticipation as you find that there is no greater purpose than loving Him in every moment, every activity, and every thought. Using poignant stories and faithful reminders, Barbara opens her own heart to help you find the joy of full surrender. Her honest and encouraging look at the Word of God reveals the keys to living a truly godly life. And to strengthen your walk day to day, she offers hymns and praise psalms for your devotional times, a long list of recommended books that will lift your spirits, and Bible study helps to remind you that you’re not alone.

Praying Backwards: Transform Your Prayer Life by Beginning in Jesus' Name

Praying Backwards: Transform Your Prayer Life by Beginning in Jesus’ Name

Bryan Chapell

Praying Backwards is a must read if you are that person who is looking to deepen your faith and prayer life. When we get that “stale” feeling going on, and your saying to yourself and God, there has to be more, this book helped me to realize that my prayers had become vain and repetitious, always saying thank you Lord, now here’s what I need. It has been a blessing to me and I will be reading it again!

Laura R Keith

Christians often say, “In Jesus’ name” to close their prayers. But is this truly a desire of the heart or a perfunctory “Yours Truly” to God? Bryan Chapell says we should begin our prayers in Jesus’ name-we should be Praying Backwards. In this practical and inspiring book, he shows readers that to truly pray in Jesus’ name is to reorder one’s priorities in prayer-and in life-away from oneself and towards Jesus and his kingdom. It is to pray believing in the power and the goodness of the One who hears, and thus to pray boldly, expectantly, and persistently.

Readers seeking to transform their prayer lives will find wonderful direction in Praying Backwards.

Columbus

Columbus

Demi

I really enjoy reading this book to my 5 and 7 year olds. They’re finally at an age where longer pages aren’t a hindrance, and Demi’s Columbus makes a nice compromise between verbosity and terseness. And the illustrations are simply wonderful. They remind me of the work Pauline Baynes did for J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Superficially simplistic, they reward careful consideration. Much is conveyed by subtle changes of line. But you can see all this for yourself clicking the book. The bottom line is, my two eldest children love it – that’s the source of the five stars.

Peter B. Nelson

Born in 1451 in the seafaring nation of Genoa in northern Italy, Christopher Columbus grew up watching ships sail into the harbor loaded with riches from Egypt, Spain, England, and Belgium. Columbus was convinced that he could gain gold, silk, ivory, and much personal wealth for himself if he were to sail west from Europe to the East and trade with China and India. When Queen Isabella of Castile and King Ferdinand of Aragon finally provided him with three ships, a crew, and supplies for his journey, Columbus embarked on the first of four voyages to the East in 1492. Although he never reached Asia, he did land in Central and South America, establishing a firm foothold in America and opening up wider European exploration to the new continent and other foreign lands.

Demi portrays Columbus as a great navigator and explorer, but she also provides a balanced view of his accomplishments, describing his enslavement of the native Taino Indians of Central America and his mismanagement of the colonies that he established in the Indies. Using Chinese paintbrushes and inks, gold overlays, and Italian marbled paper from Florence, Italy, she paints Columbus’s vast world with characteristic skill and beauty.

The Unrelenting Tide (Islands of Intrigue: San Juans – Christian Romantic Suspense)

Lynnette Bonner

This book kept me turning the virtual pages and wondering who Devynne should trust. Lynnette does a great job of interweaving the suspense with the tentative romance that slowly blossoms between Devynne and Carcen. This is a couple with much at stake, and the uncertainty of their relationship adds to the tension of Devynne’s precarious situation. She doesn’t know the identity of her stalker. Who can she really trust?

Another Chance: A Christian Romance (A Series of Chances)

Another Chance: A Christian Romance (A Series of Chances)

Diane Adams

This is a tangled web of truth, lies, and secrets. When Anna comes to Casey’s Institute, she has no idea what she’s in for. This book has the reader so entangled in its spiderweb of intrigue that you can’t put it down! It kept me up until 3 in the morning, and then kept me reading the minute I got up. A fun, engrossing story!

P. Creeden

Anna Brown was nearly forty before she earned her college degree. When she has trouble finding a teaching position in St. Louis, she applies for a substitute’s position at Casey’s Institute, a juvenile detention center located in the Missouri Ozarks. Is it chance or God’s will when a spring snowstorm prevents her from driving home?
Dr. Michael Grant admits he made the wrong decision when he ignored the weather and took Anna to dinner. It’s the first of many misunderstandings, and Michael’s apologies aren’t enough to truly earn Anna’s forgiveness. Every time Anna gives the handsome administrator another chance, it seems he’ll prove he’s no different from any of the other men who have disappointed her.
Michael can’t help being intrigued by this tiny woman, whose behavior is so different than the ordinary. Though she admits she’s afraid of animals, he offers her a job overseeing an experimental pet therapy program. Ignoring his self-imposed rule against fraternizing with those who work at Casey’s, he finds himself seeking every opportunity to get to know her better.
Overcoming a fear of dogs isn’t Anna’s only challenge. Some of the other women resent the special treatment she receives from Dr. Grant, and they’ll do whatever they can to keep the two of them apart. It seems she has inadvertently made an enemy of at least one man as well, and he’ll stop at nothing to come between her and Michael Grant.
It takes a near crisis to open Anna’s eyes to the truth about loyalty, from both animals and people. She’s ready to swallow her pride, if Michael is willing to give her another chance.
Michael blames himself for what happened – he should’ve shared his history in the beginning. Is it too late to tell her now, and ask her to give him another chance?
