Rich in Love: When God Rescues Messy People
The Garcia’s have such a beautiful story and they tell it so honestly, life can be messy, hard, and wear your down, even if you are following what you believe. It’s inspiring to hear a story where everything is not always perfect and people make mistakes and still God uses them.
Irene and Domingo Garcia began their married lives at sixteen, already expecting a baby. Their first ten years together included Domingo’s alcoholism and abuse, and Irene’s desperate prayers for answers. Then a miracle happened: Domingo pleaded for forgiveness. As God healed their marriage, Irene and Domingo adopted a little girl. And a new season began for an imperfect couple who were willing to say yes to each other and to God.
Over the past forty-five years, the Garcias have birthed, fostered, or adopted thirty-two children. Their story holds difficult endings as well as promising new beginnings. Above all, their story reminds us what can happen when ordinary people submit to God’s call.
Rich in Love is about a family cemented in hope. About a need to love the orphan. And about a God who never, ever gives up.

Irene Garcia and her husband have fostered or raised thirty-two children, many of whom have special needs. They worked in Special Ministries at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California and started the special needs ministry at Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California.

Recipes using ingredients that most of us have in the pantry already…that’s always a plus for me. Some are unusual, like the Oatmeal Patties…. as I read through the ingredients, it was clear that they would taste great, especially for a group of hungry people.
This recipe book certainly is a helper in the budget stretching department.

Jane Austen’s Guide to Life: Thoughtful Lessons for the Modern Woman
Smith’s book draws from the best of both aspects of Austen’s writing and her own life to give us “The Jane Austen Guide to Life.” The perspective is refreshing, and the writing is lively. This is the next best thing to tea with Jane herself.
Austen’s stories give us relationship advice that still works today, but her life offers us so much more wisdom than just that pertaining to love. In our fame-obsessed culture, it’s refreshing to think that Austen preferred to remain anonymous. Ironically, Jane Austen—master of love stories—never married and can teach us something about being single. She also endured many painful circumstances and managed them with grace and humor.
In this light biography and guide, author Lori Smith surmises about Austen’s sensible advice for twenty-first-century women—on everything from living our dreams, being a woman of substance, finding a good man, managing money, and much more.
As such an astute student of human nature, Austen can teach us an awful lot about ourselves and about what it means to live well.

Glimpses of Grace: Treasuring the Gospel in Your Home
Aileen and I both read this book and both enjoyed it a lot. We saw that Gloria uses both precision and grace as she shows that the good news, when properly understood and carefully applied, must transform the way a woman carries out the task the Lord has given her.

What a Difference a Mom Makes: The Indelible Imprint a Mom Leaves on Her Son’s Life
I am a mom of four young boys and I think I underlined almost the entire book. Seriously, so much helpful information about how to be a better mom to my boys. I am passing this on to all my friends.
In What a Difference a Mom Makes, New York Times bestselling author Dr. Kevin Leman uses his wit and wisdom to show Mom how to lay the groundwork that will allow her son to grow into a good man. Armed with Dr. Leman’s expert advice and insight, Mom will gain an understanding of her boy at every stage, from that very first diaper change to the moment he leaves for college. Dr. Leman shows how to discipline a boy, how to command respect, how to let him fight his own battles, how to understand his sexuality, and how to weather the changes in the mother-son relationship as he grows up. Most of all, Leman shows Mom how to lighten up and have some fun along the way with that boy who will always have her heart.

This book was very well written because it vividly shares the reality of life during the Holocaust while protecting young children from many of the details that might be too frightening for them. I think that every child should read this book because children need to understand that the Holocaust was real and was not just some event in history. We should never forget the tragedy it was.
As the German troops begin their campaign to “relocate” all the Jews of Denmark, Annemarie Johansen’s family takes in Annemarie’s best friend, Ellen Rosen, and conceals her as part of the family.
Through the eyes of ten-year-old Annemarie, we watch as the Danish Resistance smuggles almost the entire Jewish population of Denmark, nearly seven thousand people, across the sea to Sweden. The heroism of an entire nation reminds us that there was pride and human decency in the world even during a time of terror and war.

This book put a smile of my face on the first page and the smile stayed there until the last. I handed this one to my wife and she had the same reaction. Now we are dog people, I grant you that, and dogs have been a part of our lives for over 60 years now. As a matter of fact we find it difficult to imagine life without at least one of them. (We currently have three).

Roses for Mama (Women of the West Book #3)
I enjoyed this sweet, heartwarming family story, set on the prairies in what appears to be the late 1800s. Angela was a bit perfect at times, but she was still a likable character, and her love for her siblings and her determination to raise them the way her mother would have was very sweet. I would recommend this book to teenage girls who enjoy stories of love and family set against a historical background. I look forward to trying more books from this author.
Instead of the new life she and her family expected to forge out west, seventeen-year-old Angela is thrust into the role of caring for her three younger siblings after the death of their parents. With the help of her older brother, and trust in God, Angela is determined to raise the children as her mother would have wanted.
As the youngsters grow, the questions and challenges intensify. Angela feels trapped and overwhelmed. Surely no man will ever want a woman who comes with three children in tow. Is this the plan God has for her life? Will she ever find a way to balance her own dreams with the promises she made to her mama?

Path of Freedom: Quilts of Love Series
This is the third book in the Quilts of Love series that I have read and reviewed, and the first historical. The novels are all stand-alone stories by a range of authors, but all have a real or fictional quilt as a central part of the story. I think this is my favourite so far, and I will certainly keep my eyes open for more books in this series, and more novels by Jennifer Hudson Taylor.
As they embark on their perilous journey, they hope and pray that
their path is one of promise where love sustains them, courage builds faith, and forgiveness
leads to freedom.

Pieces of the Heart: Quilts of Love Series (Quilts of Love (Unnumbered))
“Pieces of the Heart” is not the only book in the Quilts of Love series, but it is the one you should not miss. It is the one that will make you think and will make you rethink. “Pieces of the Heart” is the best book of 2012. It is a definite must read.
But is the man that returns from the war, the same man that she remembered? Are the dark shades of color that she had to use for the outside edges of the beloved quilt prophetic of her life to come? Can love and faith overcome all?

Organized Grime: Squeaky Clean Mysteries, Book 3
I look forward to her Squeaky Clean Mysteries as I think they
are entertaining without shocking the socks off me.
I hope there is another one in the near future.

To find Sierra and prove her innocence, Gabby will have to rely on all of her training and abilities, plus the help of a man she loves and the protection of a God she’s only recently begun to believe in.

Billie’s Opportunity – A Christian Romance
In a story full of suspense and mystery as well as romance, the characters will keep you reading. The author does an excellent job of pulling you into the story of imperfect people finding new dreams and new challenges. I loved the twists and turns of this intricate story, and believe you will, too. I’m not a typical fan of romance, and usually shun it. But Diane Adams is not the typical romance author. Her stories pull me in and never let go – which is why I usually finish them within two days. Can’t wait for the next one!
After a traumatic experience, Chad Moore abandoned his faith, but not his friends. Keeping a promise, he travels to Opportunity to stay at Billie’s B&B. He can’t help developing an affection for the little town, and for Billie. Will he have to destroy one in order to save the other?
