Waiting For Rachel: A Christian Romance (Those Karlsson Boys)
This story holds attention all the way to final paragraphs. I recommend reading it before reading Worth the Wait. Both are great books!
Damian Karlsson, the oldest of Those Karlsson Boys, has decided it’s time to settle down and start a family. Rachel Perkins has captured his attention, but she won’t even give him a chance to romance her. It seems to Damian she feels something for him, but still she resists. Damian is determined to find out why.
Though she is attracted to Damian and even finds his pursuit of her flattering, Rachel is equally determined to keep her secrets close to her heart. Betrayed in the past by men she’s loved, she isn’t prepared to take that risk again. But when her secrets are forced out in the open, will Rachel discover that forgiveness and trust are worth the risk when it leads to love?
This inspirational story of faith and romance will warm and encourage your heart.

Adopting The Minimalist Mindset: How To Live With Less, Downsize, And Get More Fulfillment From Life
What a great book! Let’s all focus on the present and self-fulfillment. I very much sympathize with all the suggestions in this book. We should indeed break the chain of consumerism. My greatest personal challenge, I now realize, is to remove all the clutter from my office. I will surely be much more creative if I manage to do so. Thanks for all your valuable insights!

A new revolution is currently taking place, one that looks set to change how we view ourselves and the objects around us. This new, groundbreaking revolution is the practice of minimalism. In a society consumed by debt, greed, and envy, this new trend looks to change the way we think about everything in our lives. We spend our entire lives chasing happiness by chasing our peers, consuming, and collecting goods. But with depression and anxiety at all time highs, this trend is clearly not working.
This Book Will Discuss:
The benefits of minimalism
How to practice minimalism
How to organize your home and your life
How to remove your ego from purchasing decisions
The habits of highly effective minimalists
How to cut your bills
Over 50 tips saving money, cutting bills, and spending time on your true passions
Much, much, more!
This has led to the rapid rise of a new age of living: living simply. The minimalist focuses more on time and presence then on objects. Happiness, helping others, and self-fulfillment are at the top of minimalists’ priorities. They realize that happiness does not come from consumption, but that true happiness comes from within. Spending time creating memorable moments is a much better experience then spending time on a new object.

This is a great book. I devoured this book in one sitting. At times I felt like Dave Bruno was inside my head. There are so many parallels with our journey to simplicity and minimalism.
In The 100 Thing Challenge Dave Bruno relates how he remade his life and regained his soul by getting rid of almost everything. But The 100 Thing Challenge is more than just the story of how one man started a movement to unhook himself from consumerism by winnowing his life’s possessions down to 100 things in one year. It’s also an inspiring, invigorating guide to how we all can begin to live simpler, more meaningful lives.

The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible, 2nd Edition
I am the kind of person who will check out dozens of reference books on a topic before I pick one to buy. This one seemed far and away the best vegetable gardening book I looked at.
Ed Smith’s W-O-R-D system has helped countless gardeners grow an abundance of vegetables and herbs. And those tomatoes and zucchini and basil and cucumbers have nourished countless families, neighbors, and friends with delicious, fresh produce. The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible is essential reading for locavores in every corner of North America!
EVERYTHING YOU LOVED about the first edition of The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible is still here: friendly, accessible language; full-color photography; comprehensive vegetable specific information in the A-to-Z section; ahead-of-its-time commitment to organic methods; and much more.
Now, Ed Smith is back with a 10th Anniversary Edition for the next generation of vegetable gardeners. New to this edition is coverage of 15 additional vegetables, including an expanded section on salad greens and more European and Asian vegetables. Readers will also find growing information on more fruits and herbs, new cultivar photographs in many vegetable entries, and a much-requested section on extending the season into the winter months. No matter how cold the climate, growers can bring herbs indoors and keep hardy greens alive in cold frames or hoop houses.
The impulse to grow vegetables is even stronger in 2009 than it was in 2000, when Storey published The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible. The financial and environmental costs of fossil fuels raise urgent questions: How far should we be shipping food? What are the health costs of petroleum-based pesticides and herbicides? Do we have to rely on megafarms that use gasoline-powered machinery to grow and harvest crops? With every difficult question, more people think, “Maybe I should grow a few vegetables of my own.” This book will continue to answer all their vegetable gardening questions.

Surprised by Grace: God’s Relentless Pursuit of Rebels
Tchividjian examines the story of Jonah with a microscope, with words that in turn causes the reader to examine their own heart, their own soul with an equally strong microscope.
The man’s name isn’t new to anyone. It’s Jonah, the famous Old Testament prophet. This fresh unfolding of his story seeks to recapture the staggering effect it had on those who first encountered it so many centuries ago—the same shock effect that’s desperately needed today among those who think they know God’s heart far better than they really do.
In a powerful journey through unforgettable events and imagery, Surprised by Grace reveals how relentlessly God pursues rebels (a category that ultimately includes everyone), though he has every right and plenty of reasons to give up on us all.

The Silent Shepherd: The Care, Comfort, and Correction of the Holy Spirit
Just finished reading The Silent Shepherd for the second time. It is a wonderful work about the Holy Spirit throughout the ages and in the present and future. This is a detailed book that is historical and personal at the same time written in a practical way that is challenging to the soul.
The role of the Holy Spirit in a Christian’s life is often misunderstood. Some believers focus solely on spiritual gifts, some emphasize the practical over the spiritual, and others avoid the subject altogether. Yet in spite of the apparent confusion, the truth is surprisingly simple: God’s Spirit is a vital part of our relationship with Him.
The Silent Shepherd offers a balanced, scripturally sound look at the personality, works, and deity of the Holy Spirit. Drawing from over 40 years in ministry, pastor and author John MacArthur, Jr. clears away misconceptions, offers fresh insights, and shares how God’s Spirit can guide, lead, and empower every believer. This revised and updated edition includes a guide for both personal and group study and features discovery questions, suggestions for prayer, and activities, all designed to connect life-changing truths with everyday living.

A beautifully written book about a real journey. I learned a lot about the “heart of religion” and how truly the same they are. It really made me wish that I could take this journey also.

Exploring Grace Together: 40 Devotionals for the Family
I am currently reading through this devotional with my kids. The devotionals are short and easy for kids to relate to and understand but full of truth that even I need to be reminded of. My 7yo and 9yo get the most out of it but my 3yo and 5yo are able to understand a lot of it as well. Great for the whole family!
Children need more than behavior modification.
They need the gospel.
But every parent knows how hard it can be to communicate the truth of God’s Word and the message of God’s grace in a way that engages the hearts, minds, and affections of the little ones we love so much.
Assisting parents with this high calling, Jessica Thompson offers us a gospel-centered alternative to merely telling our kids what they must do to please God and be a “good Christian.” Designed for the whole family, this collection of Scriptural meditations will help you teach your children to treasure and rely on Jesus more than anything else.

I have enjoyed reading all of Candace’s books. When I got home from my nursing job, spent time with my family and took care of everything that needed to be done, I was able to relax before bed and delve into her very well written Christian based books related to the medical field. Life Support was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Can’t wait for her next one!

But as Lauren and Eli draw closer, a powerful hurricane roars toward Houston. Survival instincts take priority and everything changes. Can hope weather the storm?

Forget Me Not (Love Blossoms in Oregon)
You will LOVE this book! This is the best one yet. Each book I believe stands alone but I think if you read them in order, you will love them that much more! Enjoy, I think it will be a blessing to you, much like it was to me!
Seven years ago, Julia McKenzie rejected the man she loved, wanting to experience more of life. Now, at the age of twenty-four, she regrets that decision. What will Seth think of her, when they encounter one another hundreds of miles from home? Will the man she cared for understand the direction her life has taken and love her in spite of her choices?
Pastor Seth Russell has never completely forgotten the girl he once courted. When she shows up in his new home of Baker City, all those feelings return. But why is she sneaking around town late at night? Even more important, will she reject him and break his heart again, or can God heal the breach between them?
Forget Me Not is part of the historical romance, Love Blossoms in Oregon series, published by David C Cook. This book can stand alone, but is better enjoyed when reading the series and getting acquainted with the full cast of characters from the Love Blossoms in Oregon series.
From the Library Journal Review for book 2 in the series, Wishing on Buttercups.
“Readers will be swept up by the blossoming romance in this second book (after Blowing on Dandelions) in Ferrell’s historical series about the lives of those who traveled on the Oregon Trail. It’s sure to engross fans of best-selling authors Johanna Lindsey and Maeve Binchy.”
Library Journal Review – 2/15/14
Ferrell, Miralee. Wishing on Buttercups. David C. Cook. (Love Blossoms in Oregon, Bk. 2)
“An amazing, deeply emotional story. Each of the characters is so sympathetic and well drawn that it was impossible to put the book down. Miralee Ferrell’s characters are appealing, with a touching and believable faith journey, and the romance is lovely.”
Roxanne Rustand, Author of Duty to Protect
Miralee Ferrell creates a solid five-star novella that is both concise and far-reaching in its message of forgiveness and love. Gentle romance combines seamlessly with the struggles of characters and a town coming to terms with their own prejudices and vocations.

Welcome to Last Chance (A Place to Call Home Book #1): A Novel
I thought it was a very strong debut novel and will happily read whatever Cathleen Armstrong comes out with next.
Yet in spite of herself, Lainie finds that she is increasingly drawn in to the dramas of small town life. An old church lady who always has room for a stranger. A handsome bartender with a secret life. A single mom running her diner and worrying over her teenage son. Could Lainie actually make a life in this little hick town? Or will the past catch up to her even here in the middle of nowhere?
Cathleen Armstrong pens a debut novel filled with complex, lovable characters making their way through life and relationships the best they can. Her evocative descriptions, observational humor, and talent at rendering romantic scenes will earn her many fans.

I’d highly recommend this to anyone looking for a clean, fun, thought provoking read. Leanna Ellis has written a winner!
When Suzanne Mullins, forty-two, gets the call from her father to come back home to Texas because her mother has gone off the deep end, she knows it will mean having to look at the faulty foundations of their marriage as well as her own. Betty Lynne has always upheld a perfect facade of home and family, and Suzanne has followed suit. But her life with husband Mike and son Oliver is cracking under the pressure of its own unspoken history.
Looking her past in the eye once and for all, Suzanne hopes that trusting in God’s love and mercy will set all of this craziness straight—even if it does mean having to watch her father give the eulogy at his own funeral.
