This book was supper cute but also very helpful. My six and four year old both loved it and wanted me to reread it once I finished it.
‘The Day My Parents Got Lost’ is a fun story that gives parents and teachers the opportunity to talk with children about the importance of staying together when you go places, especially amusement parks, so that nobody gets lost.
I remember when my oldest daughter wandered off in a store when she was a toddler. She was so upset with us and blamed us for leaving her. Obviously we didn’t leave her—but in her mind we were the ones who wandered off. All these years later, that fearful time, when she wandered away, is still in my mind. Unfortunately, in today’s society, we have to teach our children about ‘stranger danger’ and staying with us in stores and crowds. This story is a fun way to convey the importance of staying together without scaring them about the possible dangers—that even we don’t want to think about—that lurk out there in the real world.

Miss Minimalist: Inspiration to Downsize, Declutter, and Simplify
I originally bought Francine’s “Joy of Less” book that impacted my life considerably. I followed her method of decluttering and found the stress in my life melting away. When I saw her new book online, I decided to add it to my Kindle collection. The new book contains even more ideas which I’m anxious to try.
This delightful collection of articles by Francine Jay, author of “The Joy of Less, A Minimalist Living Guide,” provides great inspiration to pare down your possessions. Jay breezes from practical topics, like “What’s in a Minimalist Kitchen” and “How Many Shoes are Enough,” to more philosophical musings, like what the Japanese or ancient Greeks can teach us about simple living.
Along with valuable tips and advice, the author shares her personal stories about decluttering and living with less. Her warmth, humor, and encouraging tone make you feel like you’re chatting with a good friend over a cup of coffee—a friend you’d love to invite over to clean out your closets!
These essays are a wonderful introduction to minimalist living, written by someone with a genuine passion for the topic. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your clutter, or disenchanted with consumerism, you’ll find a kindred soul (and a wealth of advice) in Miss Minimalist. Best of all: you’ll likely empty a drawer or two by the time you’ve finished reading!

Have you wondered what it really meant to be wired differently? I have read many books that gave me the physiological difference and explanations, but nothing had given me such great insight to the mind of an Aspergian than John Elder Robison’s new book “Be Different.” So here goes my review. This book offers great, practical advice to parents, teachers, and care-givers of Asperger kids. For me, the memorable part came when he covered aspie’s lack of empathy.
In his bestselling memoir, Look Me in the Eye, John Elder Robison described growing up with Asperger’s syndrome at a time when the diagnosis didn’t exist. He was intelligent but socially isolated; his talents won him jobs with toy makers and rock bands but did little to endear him to authority figures and classmates, who were put off by his inclination to blurt out non sequiturs and avoid eye contact.
By the time he was diagnosed at age forty, John had already developed a myriad of coping strategies that helped him achieve a seemingly normal, even highly successful, life. In Be Different, Robison shares a new batch of endearing stories
about his childhood, adolescence, and young adult years, giving the reader a rare window into the Aspergian mind.
In each story, he offers practical advice—for Aspergians and indeed for anyone who feels “different”—on how to improve the weak communication and social skills that keep so many people from taking full advantage of their often remarkable gifts. With his trademark honesty and unapologetic eccentricity, Robison addresses questions like:
• How to read others and follow their behaviors when in uncertain social situations
• Why manners matter
• How to harness your powers of concentration to master difficult skills
• How to deal with bullies
• When to make an effort to fit in, and when to embrace eccentricity
• How to identify special gifts and use them to your advantage
Every person, Aspergian or not, has something unique to offer the world, and every person has the capacity to create strong, loving bonds with their friends and family. Be Different will help readers and those they love find their path to success.

Lots more in this book… just great ideas. Honestly, my feeling with parenting books is that if I pick up one good idea, it’s worth it. My guess you’ll pick up at least a handful of great ideas to help your family. Highly highly recommended!

Great classic story! Well written! My kindergartener and I both love it! It was helpful for her to watch the movie with Shirley Temple before we began reading it, since some of the wording is a bit old-fashioned. But it is definitely a book she will grow into and enjoy even in the years to come. I like the little ribbon bookmark that it comes with, also.

Daddy-Long-Legs and Dear Enemy by Jean Webster (Halcyon Classics)
I read Daddy-Long-Legs as a kid and love it…liked it all over again re-reading it. Dear Enemy is possibly better, in letter form also, but a deeper story. I give it all thumbs and toes up!
In DEAR ENEMY, Judy Abbott’s classmate and best friend Sally McBride grows from a young woman into a successful mature woman. Sally sends her letters to Judy Abbott; Jervis Pendleton, Judy’s husband and the president of the orphanage where Sallie is filling in until a new superintendent can be installed; and the orphanage’s doctor, the bitter Robin ‘Sandy’ McRae, whom Sallie addresses as “Dear Enemy.”
The novels explore a number of themes relevant to early 20th century America, including the changing role of women, orphans, divorce, and social work. Includes an active table of contents for easy navigation.
Alice Jane Chandler Webster (1876-1916) was an American writer and author. A relative of Mark Twain, Webster attended Vassar and became involved in social causes, working with the College Settlement House which served poor communities in New York. She was a supporter of women’s suffrage, a socialist, and interested in institutional reform, particularly orphanages. She died shortly after giving birth to a daughter in 1916.

The Parable of the Lily: The Parable Series
Like the other parable books by Liz Curtis Higgs, this is a wonderful story for children that has a lesson to it. Maggie learns the lesson of forgiveness and the true story of Easter. It is a book that will surely bring a tear to the eye of a mother reading it to her child. I recommend it highly.
The gentle Farmer from The Pumpkin Patch Parable lovingly helps His young daughter, Maggie, understand the power of grace and forgiveness and the true meaning of Easter.

Saving Gideon (A Clover Ridge Novel)
Amy Lillard will make you fall in love with her characters in “Saving Gideon.” I was instantly drawn into her story and while I love Amish novels, I loved the contrast with an “English” character in Avery. It really displays the differences between the Amish way of life and the English way of life and the ups and downs of both.
Dallas socialite Avery Ann Hamilton is intrigued by the Amish farmer who pulls her out of the snow and into his austere lifestyle. Poor little rich girl, Avery has just gone through (yet another) bad breakup. Every man she meets only wants her for her father’s money. All she has ever wanted is to be loved for herself. Avery soon discovers the Oklahoma Amish country is the perfect place to hide out and heal her broken heart.
But she finds a peace in those back roads that she’s never felt before. Now her life has purpose and meaning as she connects with God and those around her. And there’s something more as she begins to care for this man who needs both love and forgiveness.
Gideon never wanted to live again much less fall in love, but Avery finds her way into his heart, showing him the beauty of life and God’s greatness. Yet as the feelings between Avery and Gideon grow, can they overcome their dissimilar lifestyles, or will their sheer differences pull them apart?

The book itself is written so amazingly, and the story is ‘moving’ at a comfortable pace for me, unlike other books that go to slow, or to fast.
My emotions were most definitely matched at times or even more extreme than Hannah’s was. I most definitely recommend this book to ALL adopted teens or even adults out there!
Bewildered, angry, and confused, Hannah turns for support to her oldest friend, Jason. Encouraged by his adventurous spirit, she joins his friends on a road trip, embarking on a journey to discover her hidden past and find hope for the unknown future.
Along the way, Hannah finds that every life is beautiful, and that life can be so much more than what we might have planned.

Pilgrimage of Promise (A Miller’s Creek Novel)
Another great read! I just cannot put these books down once I start them. The blessing of a great story in combination with being reminded of a spiritual truth is time well spent.
A dusty stack of unopened love letters forces Bo and Mona Beth Miller to revisit a part of their past they’d rather leave buried–especially in the face of death. Only as they retrace history will they learn the truth about the shattered promise that threatens to come between them. But can their relationship endure the deception and sabotage they unearth, or will the experience compel them to trust more fully in the promises that never fail?

Kissed by a Cowboy: an Inspy Kisses novella
this was a cute cowboy romance. It is a short story only 92 pages. It is the story of Lacey and Maddox and their romance years after high school when they meet again.
Just shy of her thirtieth birthday, Haley Carston returns to Redbud Trails, Oklahoma, to care for her dying aunt. She thinks she’s ready for this homecoming. She’s spent years escaping her perpetual shyness and being Katie Michaels’ tag-along friend, but being back in her hometown brings back a lot of old memories, especially when she is faced with the cowboy she never forgot—Katie’s older brother, Maddox.
Twelve years ago, Maddox Michaels was supposed to be somebody. He had everything. A football scholarship. A Division I team scouting him. Maybe even a chance at the pros. Now, he’s a burned-out cowboy working day and night to stay ahead of his brother’s medical bills and keep their family farm from going bankrupt. And trying to be a father-figure for his niece, Olivia.
When Haley and Olivia start spending time together, Maddox can’t help remembering those dreams that died alongside his sister. Will being with Haley open his heart to new dreams?

Twin Hearts: A Christian Romance Novel (The Lewis Legacy Series, Book Three)
JoAnn Durgin’s books are more in tune with real life in our present day world. If you’re tired of reading Christian romances that seem to be cut out of the same mold, I highly recommend giving JoAnn Durgin’s books a try. Her books bring a freshness that has been needed for a long time.
Rebekah Grant, Josh’s twin sister, is torn between two men. Adam, a dashing British aristocrat, offers her a world of exotic travel, socializing with royalty, fabulous couture and the life of leisure. Then there’s sweet Kevin, the strong, intelligent, faithful TeamWork member. Will the shy Louisiana lumber man ever take the step of faith to move their relationship to the next level? What Kevin lacks in terms of Adam’s style and panache, he more than makes up for with heart-stirring kisses and soul-searching conversation. When Rebekah suspects Adam is planning to propose a second time, she knows it’s time to make her decision. Juggling both suitors is wrong for so many reasons, but what’s a girl to do if she wants to marry and have children in her lifetime?

Leaning on the encouragement and support from Sam and Lexa Lewis and their TeamWork friends, both twins look to the Lord for His divine guidance.
