I could’t stop reading this book from the moment I started..This book isn’t just amazing for single women, it’s applicable to ALL women and all types of relationships. From friendship lessons to love lessons, I found myself nodding at my screen and seeing myself in the picture that was drawn with words. This is a survival guide. I’m buying this for all my girlfriends-single, married, dating, everyone. What an empowering book!!! You go girl!

As we weather the choppy waters we call Life, it’s a decision we will face time and time and time again: Do we cling to a situation that’s taking us under out of fear of letting go of the familiar…or do we open our hand and let go of that friendship, that relationship, that job, that opportunity, or that grievance that we’ve been clinging to, realizing that to flail around uncertainly for a season is all a part of discovering our destiny?

“How do you know so much about letting go and moving on?” You might ask. “What makes you the expert?”

Well, I’m not an expert. Let’s get that straight. I’m not a guru. I’m not a psychologist or a psychiatrist or a counselor or a fortune teller or the Great and Powerful Oz.

I am a single woman. Just like you.

Maybe you’re not a single woman – or even a woman. Maybe you’re just someone who needs to release someone or something that’s holding you back from being your best self and living your best life. And that’s okay, too. As I say on my Twitter page and on my website on a regular basis, anyone looking for inspiration and motivation is welcome here. Anyone looking to leave the past behind and shine is welcome here. And anyone who holds out for the best and refuses to settle for less is welcome here. Married, single, female, male, old, young, gay, straight. Come one, come all!

Just like you – I am a friend. A sister. A daughter. An aunt.

I have loved and lost. I have grieved and clung. I have let go and moved on.

Sneakers or stilettos, I’ve been in your shoes…and I know every step of the journey. Perhaps even better than any guru or expert or counselor or fortune teller.

I am the best friend who will tell you what you NEED to hear and not what you WANT to hear. I am the big sister with the shoulder to cry on when it seems like the rest of the world has turned away. I hope to be the Cruise Director who guides you full steam ahead through the often choppy and turbulent waters of letting go and moving on directly to the white sandy beach of life AFTER letting go and moving on. Do you see me? I’m waiting for you there, fruity drink with the little umbrella in hand.

So what does this actually look like, this “letting go and moving on” thing? What are the steps? What does it mean? And how do you know when it’s time to throw in the towel…call it a day…and walk away? In “The Single Woman’s Sassy Survival Guide to Letting Go & Moving On,” we’ll cover the five major areas of life that we often find ourselves needing to let go of: Relationships, Friendships, Jobs, Opportunities, and Grievances. How are we going to do it? By examining the five benchmarks for letting go and moving on: the Who, the What, the Why, the When, and the How. At the end of each chapter, we’ll review the Five Fabulous Finds from that section for you to take away as daily affirmations, pick-me-ups, or sassy reminders to get you off of “What Might Have Been” Highway and back on the road to letting go and moving on.

So sit down with your computer, your iPhone, your iPad, or whatever other technological device you happen to be reading from and let’s have some good old-fashioned girl talk. Kick off your shoes, grab a glass of wine…and let’s turn the page and leave the past behind.

Shall we?

God Will Use This for Good: Surviving the Mess of Life

Max Lucado

Max Lucado is a master of the metaphor. I love his mastery of words that describe a situation. Life naturally contains messes for all of us. His book helps us see beyond the mess and how God can use that mess to develop good in our
life.

Leonard Olp

When we feel that life is out of control, He is in control.

When tragedy strikes, people desperately search for answers. Believers and unbelievers alike find themselves turning to God. Best-selling author and pastor Max Lucado points to the only real answer to tragedy and crisis: Prayer. In For the Tough Times, Lucado helps us understand how to pray despite our doubt and fear.

The Flavor Thesaurus: A Compendium of Pairings, Recipes and Ideas for the Creative Cook

The Flavor Thesaurus: A Compendium of Pairings, Recipes and Ideas for the Creative Cook

Niki Segnit

This book has had stunning reviews in the British national newspapers, and I decided to buy it as a present for my husband, the chef in our household. On the tube home, I had a quick flick through it out of curiosity…and I haven’t been able to part with it since.

Third Time Lucky

In this lively and exceptionally enjoyable book, career flavor scientist Niki Segnit uncovers the essential flavors of food, and organizes them into 160 basic ingredients. In this concise way, she articulates every flavor imaginable, whether it’s a “grassy” food like dill, cucumber, or peas, or a “floral fruity” one like figs, roses, or blueberries. And then she considers every conceivable combination of these ingredients.
Segnit has scoured thousands of recipes in countless recipe books, talked to dozens of food technologists and chefs, and visited hundreds of restaurants-all in her quest to uncover the planet’s essential flavor pairings. The result is a reminder that there are almost infinite possibilities in an everyday kitchen, whether it means spinning celery and dill into a savory broth, orange and carrots into a crisp salad, or cabbage and sage into an elegant cream sauce. This book is also full of quirky observations, practical information (hundreds of recipes are embedded in the narrative) and more than a few good jokes.
Beautifully packaged, The Flavor Thesaurus is not only a highly useful, and covetable, reference book that will immeasurably improve your cooking-it’s the sort of book that might keep you up at night reading.

A Proverbs Driven Life

A Proverbs Driven Life

Anthony Selvaggio

There are many books that offer a survey of proverbial wisdom, but what makes A Proverbs Driven Life different is the balance it seeks to maintain. Anthony Selvaggio maintains that every biblical principle has a balance to it–i.e. don’t be lazy, but also don’t be a work-a-holic, or don’t have ungodly friends, but also don’t neglect friendships with non-believers. Selvaggio draws out those principles from Proverbs, and illustrates them with examples from the rest of Scripture.

jarbitro

This is a book about the wisdom God has given us in the book of Proverbs. By this wisdom, we can learn how to live in light of what is really true about ourselves, one another, and this wonderful yet deeply flawed world. Ultimately, therefore, this is a book about life lived for God in the light of divine truth. It’s about life as God intends for us to live it. Proverbs does offer an infallible guarantee that a Proverbs-driven life will result in spiritual and practical blessings. But it is vitally important to remember that the goal of Proverbs is not finding earthly prosperity or even wisdom itself. The goal of Proverbs is to grow ever closer to the God who is Wisdom.

Fireproof

Fireproof

Eric Wilson, Alex Kendrick, Stephen Kendrick

A great story with great characters. I highly recommend reading the book if you have seen the movie or even if you havent. The only thing though is if you read the book before seeing the movie you may be a little disappointed as Eric Wilson adds a lot of back story and character devolpment that is not in the movie. My wife has also started reading the book and she loves it so far. Again a great book by a great author.

James A. Nichols

INSIDE BURNING BUILDINGS, Captain Caleb Holt lives by the firefighter’s adage: NEVER LEAVE YOUR PARTNER. Yet at home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules.

Growing up, his wife Catherine always dreamed of marrying a loving, brave firefighter . . . just like her father. Now, after seven years of marriage, she wonders when she stopped being “good enough.” Countless arguments and anger have them wanting to move on to something with more sparks.

As they prepare for divorce, Caleb’s father challenges him to commit to a 40-day experiment: “The Love Dare.” Wondering if it’s even worth the effort, Caleb reluctantly agrees, not realizing how it will change his world forever.

Surprised by what he discovers about the meaning of love, Caleb begins to see his wife and marriage as worth fighting for. But is it too late? His job is to rescue others. Now Captain Holt must face his toughest job ever . . . rescuing his wife’s heart.

The Prayer Box

The Prayer Box

Lisa Wingate

Amazing story that deals with heartbreak from families that choose their own wants and overlook the children in their care. Healing and finding love are found after a trek into the past. Everything is in God’s timing not our own.

Marla Nevels

When Iola Anne Poole, an old-timer on Hatteras Island, passes away in her bed at ninety-one, the struggling young mother in her rental cottage, Tandi Jo Reese, finds herself charged with the task of cleaning out Iola’s rambling Victorian house.

Running from a messy, dangerous past, Tandi never expects to find more than a temporary hiding place within Iola’s walls, but everything changes with the discovery of eighty-one carefully decorated prayer boxes, one for each year, spanning from Iola’s youth to her last days. Hidden in the boxes is the story of a lifetime, written on random bits of paper–the hopes and wishes, fears and thoughts of an unassuming but complex woman passing through the seasons of an extraordinary, unsung life filled with journeys of faith, observations on love, and one final lesson that could change everything for Tandi.

Living in Harmony (The New Beginnings Series)

Living in Harmony (The New Beginnings Series)

Mary Ellis

I recently had the privilege of reading Living in Harmony, by Mary Ellis. What a great book. I highly recommend it to people who love a great women’s fiction read. It is an Amish book, but the elements of Amish living are secondary compared to the Biblical truths that Mary so lovingly and sweetly weaves throughout the story. It is one of those books that makes you think not just about the characters, but also the main message that the author wants to teach through fiction.

Cheri Swalwell – author

Living in Harmony is the first book in bestselling author Mary Ellis’s New Beginnings series. It’s about fresh starts and love…and how faith in God and His perfect plan for our lives provides us with the peace and joy we desire.

Amy King—young, engaged, and Amish—faces difficult challenges in her life when she suddenly loses both of her parents in a house fire. Her fiancé, John Detweiler, persuades her and her sister Nora to leave Lancaster County and make a new beginning with him in Harmony, Maine, where he has relatives who can help the women in their time of need.

John’s brother Thomas and sister-in-law Sally readily open their home to the three newcomers. Wise beyond his years, Thomas, a minister in the district, refuses to marry Amy and John upon their arrival, suggesting instead a period of adjustment and counseling. During this time Amy discovers an aunt who was shunned. She wishes to reconnect with her, but this puts a strain on her relationship with John.

Can John and Amy find a way to live in happily in Harmony before making a lifetime commitment to one another?
