Tanya Guerrier

This is a well-written and very concise book. I think one needs to read it over and over again, small bites at a time, to absorb the messages. Enjoyed it.

Things I Learned From Knitting: ...whether I wanted to or not

Things I Learned From Knitting: …whether I wanted to or not

Stephanie Pearl-McPhee

If you enjoyed the original Yarn Harlot book, you will love this one! Stephanie has returned to the style that made her famous. The essays are funny, truthful, and underneath, deep and thoughtful. I was a little surprised at the small size of the book;(classic gift book sized) but it was a decent evening’s read, in between knitting rows, of course! I would recommend it to anyone who loves to knit, read, and laugh!

D. Vance

The Yarn Harlot strikes again! Best-selling knitting author and humorist Stephanie Pearl-McPhee is back with an irresistible collection of witty observations on how knitting and life wisdom are spun together.

In Things I Learned From Knitting (Whether I Wanted To or Not), Pearl Mc-Phee examines age-old aphorisms in light of knitting. From “Hope Springs Eternal” to “A Friend In Need Is A Friend Indeed” and “Birds Of A Feather Flock Together,” Pearl-McPhee casts a fresh, off-beat light on these sayings. Presented in quick, punchy takes, each entry in this book calls out to be read aloud and shared with anyone who enjoys playing with yarn and needles.

Pearl-McPhee’s observations are hilarious; the situations she describes strike a familiar, “not you, too?” feeling in the heart of anyone who knits. Interspersed throughout the book are her notes on the things that “Knitting is still trying to teach me. . .” That no matter how well you knit, looking at your work too closely isn’t helpful. It’s like kissing with your eyes open. Nobody looks good that close up.

Spud and Chloe at the Farm

Spud and Chloe at the Farm

Susan B. Anderson

This book is wonderful. The patters are easy enough to follow and the toys are relatively small making it fairly quick and easy to knit them up! I think it is a must have!

M. Shami

A knit-and-read book: 13 farm-centric projects for the perfect homespun toys, with a bonus story.

A mother hen and her chicks (and their adorable knitted eggshells), three little piglets, and a black lamb full of good intentions are just some of the appealing projects in Spud and Chloë at the Farm, the latest innovative work from author and world-class knitter Susan B.Anderson. The projects in this book follow Spud, a feisty pet sheep, and Chloë, his perky owner, as they travel to a farm and meet the inhabitants of the barnyard, including a brown cow, some mice, a dog, and a barn cat. To continue the theme, and set the stage for loads of interactive play, the book also offers instructions for making an assortment of farm props, such as a picket fence, bales of hay, dainty baskets, and even a three-sided foldable barn.

Meanwhile, witty full-color cartoons (presented one per spread throughout the text of the book) tell the story of Spud and Chloë’s visit to the farm, which starts with an invitation from Spud’s cousin Little Lamb. Featuring charming full-color photographs of the knitted toys, this book is a must-have for knitters and their loved ones.

Downfall (An Intervention Novel)

Downfall (An Intervention Novel)

Terri Blackstock

Downfall by Terri Blackstock (An Intervention Novel) kept me hooked until the very end as do all of her amazing novels. Blackstock did a terrific job concealing who the murder was until the very last pages! I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys murder mysteries, and action/thriller novels!

Pirate2240

Summer of Promise (Westward Winds Book #1): A Novel

Summer of Promise (Westward Winds Book #1): A Novel

Amanda Cabot

This was another wonderful book by Amanda Cabot. It kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next.

Vandi J. Treider

Though she had planned to spend the summer in Vermont with her sweetheart, Abigail Harding cannot dismiss her concerns over her older sister. Charlotte’s letters have been uncharacteristically melancholy, and her claims that nothing is wrong ring false, so Abigail heads West to Wyoming. The endless prairie seems monotonous, but when her stagecoach is attacked, Wyoming promises to be anything but boring. Luckily, the heroics of another passenger, Lieutenant Ethan Bowles, save the day.

When circumstances–and perhaps a bit of matchmaking–put Abigail and Ethan together, there’s certainly attraction. But Abigail is planning to marry another man and return to life in Vermont as soon as she is finished attending to her sister. And Ethan loves his life in the Army and the wilds of Wyoming. When summer ends, will Abigail go back East? Or will she fall in love with this rugged land herself?

Book 1 of the new Westward Winds series, Summer of Promise is a tale of following your heart to unexpected places. Readers will enjoy Amanda Cabot’s passionate characters and vibrant setting in the beautiful high prairie.

Covenant, The (Abram's Daughters Book #1) (Abram's Daughters)

Covenant, The (Abram’s Daughters Book #1) (Abram’s Daughters)

Beverly Lewis

This is the first book by Beverly Lewis I have read. I have to say that once I got started, I just had to keep reading. I enjoyed learning about the Amish culture. I would characterize this book as a cross between “Little Women” and “Fiddler on the Roof” with a dash of “The Scarlet Letter” thrown in. It is simple and sweet with just enough turmoil to make it interesting.

A Customer

Book 1 of Abram’s Daughters series from bestselling author Beverly Lewis. Years of secrecy bind the tiny community of Gobbler’s Knob together more than the present inhabitants know, and the Plain folk who farm the land rarely interact with the fancy locals. So when Sadie is beguiled by a dark-haired English boy, it is Sadie’s younger sister, Leah, who suffers from her sister’s shameful loss of innocence. And what of Leah’s sweetheart, Jonas Mast, sent to Ohio under the Bishop’s command? Drawn into an incomprehensible pact with her older sister, Leah finds her dreams spinning out of control, even as she clings desperately to the promises of God. The Covenant begins a powerful Lancaster portrait of the power of family and the miracle of hope.
