This is a great book! It’s simple, yet profound. If you are looking for a good concise book for family devotions during Advent, I recommend The ABC’s of Christmas!
During this Advent journey we’re going to let each letter of the alphabet teach us something important about the Christmas story. Along the way we’ll meet the Wise Men, the shepherds, and a bad king named Herod. We’ll also meet Joseph and Mary. Best of all, we’ll meet the One whose birthday we celebrate.
Throughout this 26-day devotional, Ray Pritchard shines new light on the events of the first Christmas. Experience Christ in a new way as we journey through Advent from A-Z.

Culture Making: Recovering Our Creative Calling
A great book for anyone who wants to be challenged to create/cultivate culture from a Christian perspective.
I would highly recommend this book!
Andy Crouch unleashes a stirring manifesto calling Christians to be culture makers. For too long, Christians have had an insufficient view of culture and have waged misguided “culture wars.” But we must reclaim the cultural mandate to be the creative cultivators that God designed us to be. Culture is what we make of the world, both in creating cultural artifacts as well as in making sense of the world around us. By making chairs and omelets, languages and laws, we participate in the good work of culture making.
Crouch unpacks the complexities of how culture works and gives us tools for cultivating and creating culture. He navigates the dynamics of cultural change and probes the role and efficacy of our various cultural gestures and postures. Keen biblical exposition demonstrates that creating culture is central to the whole scriptural narrative, the ministry of Jesus and the call to the church. He guards against naive assumptions about “changing the world,” but points us to hopeful examples from church history and contemporary society of how culture is made and shaped. Ultimately, our culture making is done in partnership with God’s own making and transforming of culture.
A model of his premise, this landmark book is sure to be a rallying cry for a new generation of culturally creative Christians. Discover your calling and join the culture makers.

The In-Between: Embracing the Tension Between Now and the Next Big Thing
Jeff Goings is a wordsmith par-excellence. This book, “The In-Between” is his second book and in my opinion his best book. He takes us on a gentle journey of his life. He is candid and honest in his writing.
Most of us spend our lives
searching and longing for something more than what is in front of us. Whether it’s
traveling abroad or chasing cheap (or expensive) thrills, we’re all looking for
medicine to satisfy our restlessness. And, so often, we’re looking in the wrong
place.
The In-Between is a call for all of us to accept the importance
that waiting plays in our lives. In this spiritual memoir, Jeff Goins reveals the
unexpected good that came from his times of waiting. And he encourages
us to embrace the extraordinary nature of the ordinary and enjoy the daily mundane,
what lies in between the “major” moments.
Moments of breakthrough are not
where life’s greatest transformation happens; the stuff that God uses to shape us
often lies in the in-between. It’s the bus stops and layovers and DMV lines and
moments of unintentional pause that force us to become better people.
That’s
not to say there aren’t moments of epiphany. There are. It’s just that most of us
find ourselves living somewhere in the in-between. Learning to live in this tension,
to be content in these moments of waiting, may be our greatest struggle…and our
greatest opportunity to grow.

I watched her series on TV and it was a feast for the eyes! What she can cook in that tiny Parisian kitchen is amazing. The recipes are well written, easy to follow and if she can cook them in her little oven and cooktop, then there’s no excuse for anyone! Love the originality of the recipes and suggested substitutions of ingredients.

This book allows the children to use their imagination. They can imagine what Sarah looks like, how plain she really is. They can see the plows and the farm animals. Being able to see things in their head is a valuable skill for a child to have. I think that this book definitely gives children a glimpse into the past, like stepping onto a time machine. Whatever the case, Sarah, Plain and Tall is a story for the ages which will be read for years to come.

The Noticer Returns: Sometimes You Find Perspective, and Sometimes Perspective Finds You
Andy is a modern day C.S. Lewis. You will not find a more talented story teller. I devoured this book and went right back and read it again. This book is sure to change how you look at life. This is NOT a book to be missed.
Andy Andrews has spent the past five years doing a double take at every white-haired old man he sees, hoping to have just one more conversation with the person to whom he owes his life.
Through a chance encounter at a local bookstore, Andy is reunited with the man who changed everything for him – Jones, also known as “The Noticer.”
As the story unfolds, Jones uses his unique talent of noticing little things that make a big difference. And these “little things” grant the people of Fairhope, Alabama, a life-changing gift – perspective. Along the way, families will be united, financial opportunities will be created, and readers will be left with powerfully simple solutions to the everyday problems we all face.
Through the lens of a parenting class at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama, Jones guides a seemingly random group to ask specific questions inspired by his curious advice that “You can’t believe everything you think.” Those questions lead to answers for which people have been searching for centuries:
How do we begin to change the culture in which we live?
What is the key to creating a life of success and value?
What if what we think is the end…is only the beginning?
What starts as a story of one person’s everyday reality unfolds into the extraordinary principles available to anyone looking to create the life for which they were intended.

I have read all of Lynn Austin’s books and love them all, but I do believe this is her best yet. I had a hard time putting it down. A wonderful story of a Southern family trying to put their lives back together after the Civil War…just like it was before.
In the aftermath of the Civil War, Josephine Weatherly and her mother, Eugenia, struggle to pick up the pieces of their lives when they return to their Virginia plantation. But the bitter realities of life after the war cannot be denied: their home and land are but shells of their previous grandeur; death has claimed her father and brother; and her remaining brother, Daniel, has returned home bitter and broken. The privileged childhood Josephine enjoyed now seems like a long-ago dream. And the God who failed to answer any of her prayers during the war is lost to her as well.
Josephine soon realizes that life is now a matter of daily survival–and recognizes that Lizzie, as one of the few remaining servants, is the one she must rely on to teach her all she needs to know. Josephine’s mother, too, vows to rebuild White Oak…but a bitter hatred fuels her.
With skill and emotion, Lynn Austin brings to life the difficult years of the Reconstruction era by interweaving the stories of three women–daughter, mother, and freed slave–in a riveting tale.

Amish Christmas Boxed Set (Amish Romance)
I enjoyed the stories in the Christmas box set very very much. I love it when I’m captivated from the very start, and I was. I love how the Amish always turn to God with their problems, and how they remember to thank God for always being present in their lives.

I have been in love with Marcy and Patrick for six books now and there have been so many hints of what went on to spark their romance. It’s a wonderful book that I have been anxiously hoping for. THANK YOU JULIE LESSMAN!!!!!!!!!
Marceline Murphy is a gentle beauty with a well-founded aversion to rogues. But when two of Boston’s most notorious pursue her, she encounters a tug-of-war of the heart she isn’t expecting. Sam O’Rourke is the childhood hero she’s pined for, the brother of her best friend and a member of the large, boisterous family to which she longs to be a part. So when his best friend Patrick O’Connor joins in pursuit of her affections, the choice seems all too clear. Sam is from a family of faith and Patrick is not, two rogues whose wild ways clash head-on with Marcy’s—both in her faith and in her heart.
While overseeing the Christmas play fundraiser for the St. Mary’s parish soup kitchen—A Light in the Window—Marcy not only wrestles with her attraction to both men, but with her concern for their spiritual welfare. The play is based on the Irish custom of placing a candle in the window on Christmas Eve to welcome the Holy Family, and for Marcy, its message becomes deeply personal. Her grandmother Mima cautions her to guard her heart for the type of man who will respond to the “light in the window,” meaning the message of Christ in her heart. But when disaster strikes during the play, Marcy is destined to discover the truth of the play’s message first-hand when it becomes clear that although two men have professed their undying love, only one has truly responded to “the light in the window.”

Silver Bells (Songs of the season™)
I enjoy reading Deborah Raney’s books because they have powerful messages. This sweet Christmas love story also discusses serious social problems, and this is the main reason I read her books. They challenge me to be a better person while providing me with an entertaining escape from reality.

I have really appreciated this service. I mostly read the fiction and really miss having the fiction and non fiction listed separately. Are you ever planning on going back to that format?
Hi Jan,
At this time we are going to continue on with the one post format. I do have them organized within the post though. The free Christian Fiction will be at the end of the first few books. The discounted Christian Fiction will be at the very end of the post. I hope that helps. 🙂
