Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back

Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back

Todd Burpo

A wonderful insight into a near death experience and a Christian family experiencing it. This can explain faith and heaven to anyone!

Elizabeth Boyd

“A beautifully written glimpse into heaven that will encourage those who doubt and thrill those who believe.”

—Ron Hall, coauthor of Same Kind of Different as Me

“Do you remember the hospital, Colton?” Sonja said. “Yes, mommy, I remember,” he said. “That’s where the angels sang to me.”

When Colton Burpo made it through an emergency appendectomy, his family was overjoyed at his miraculous survival. What they weren’t expecting, though, was the story that emerged in the months that followed—a story as beautiful as it was extraordinary, detailing their little boy’s trip to heaven and back.

Colton, not yet four years old, told his parents he left his body during the surgery–and authenticated that claim by describing exactly what his parents were doing in another part of the hospital while he was being operated on. He talked of visiting heaven and relayed stories told to him by people he met there whom he had never met in life, sharing events that happened even before he was born. He also astonished his parents with descriptions and obscure details about heaven that matched the Bible exactly, though he had not yet learned to read.

With disarming innocence and the plainspoken boldness of a child, Colton tells of meeting long-departed family members. He describes Jesus, the angels, how “really, really big” God is, and how much God loves us. Retold by his father, but using Colton’s uniquely simple words, Heaven Is for Real offers a glimpse of the world that awaits us, where as Colton says, “Nobody is old and nobody wears glasses.”

Heaven Is for Real will forever change the way you think of eternity, offering the chance to see, and believe, like a child.

The First Christmas

The First Christmas

Marcus J. Borg

Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan explore Matthew and Luke’s Christmas narratives in this provocative-can’t-put-down book. They place the stories in historical context and then thoughtfully explore the rich symbolism and meaning of the Gospel accounts of events surrounding the birth of Jesus. The results are new and powerful meanings to the Christmas stories for the modern ear– stories that for two-thousand years have beckoned humankind away from the pursuit of peace though violence and toward God’s call to the pursuit peace though non-violence and justice for all. THIS A GREAT BOOK THAT IS WELL WORTH THE READ!

Scott Elliott

“Who could argue with the message the authors draw from the Bible’s Christmas stories? Light in the darkest time of the year, hope in a period of creeping despair—these are powerful and universal themes that can give everyone a stake in Christmas.”
—USA Today

In The First Christmas Marcus J. Borg and John Dominic Crossan—top Jesus scholars and authors of The Last Week—help us see the real Christmas story buried in the familiar Bible accounts. Basing their interpretations on the two nativity narratives in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, Borg and Crossan focus on the literal story—the inner truth rather than the historical facts—to offer a clear and uplifting message of hope and peace. With The First Christmas readers get a fresh, deep, and new understanding of the nativity story, enabling us to better appreciate the powerful message of the Gospels.

The Scoop on Good Grammar

The Scoop on Good Grammar

Margie Blumberg

Optimized for Kindle tablets.

A Gold Recipient: The Mom’s Choice Awards (Educational Products)
Winner: Dan Poynter’s Global eBook Awards (Education)
Honorable Mention: The New York Book Festival Awards

“Color photos, sidebars of information, and concluding chapter quizzes enliven the entire presentation and make it simple and fun to absorb the basics of good grammar in an easy guide that can be used for ESL students, adults seeking a refresher course, or students learning grammar basics.” —Midwest Book Review, Diane Donovan, Senior eBook Reviewer

Memorable facts and trivia and loads of colorful photos and illustrations make “The Scoop on Good Grammar” fun to read. As you’ll see, it’s all about culture. With seven categories (exploration, art and invention, sports, food, classic movies and TV, travel, and poetry), there’s something here for everyone. For example, Renoir’s “Luncheon of the Boating Party” will guide you through the definition of a noun. And cupcakes will help you learn about adjectives.

The 26 lessons in “The Scoop on Good Grammar” are easy to navigate. In no time at all, choosing the correct pronoun (it’s between you and “me”—not, between you and “I”) and the appropriate modifying word (it’s “really” sweet—not, “real” sweet) will become second nature to you.

Your invitations will be as welcoming as that statue that lifts her torch in the harbor:

~ Please join the Ghirardellis (not, the Ghirardelli’s) for a party!

Greeting people will become an occasion to shine:
~How are you?
~I’m fine, and “you”? (Not, I’m fine, and “yourself”?)

When you write, you’ll always point your readers in the right direction with proper punctuation marks.

And at the end of the day, you’ll lie (not, lay) down, relax, and take pleasure in the knowledge that your prized possession—your artful way with words—has been, in its (not, it’s) own way, as beautifying to the landscape as a masterpiece by Renoir.

By the time you finish this book, you’ll be able to express yourself correctly with confidence and ease.

Are you ready to get the scoop? Great! Dig in!

The Shun Lee Cookbook

The Shun Lee Cookbook

Michael Tong

This beautifully illustrated and graciously written cookbook is a rarity. Inspiring, tantalizing pictures and easy-to-follow recipes of cuisines I adore (from Sichuan, Hunan and Shanghai)but for which I rarely find recipes. Get it and I assure you, your life will be more delicious…even if you don’t cook, you’ll drool over the photos.

Carol Chen

Until the 1960s, nearly all Chinese food served in the United States was Cantonese. Egg Foo Yung. Barbecued Spareribs. Egg Drop Soup. But with the opening of his Shun Lee restaurants more than forty years ago, Michael Tong and his chefs introduced the spicy regional foods of Sichuan and Hunan and the red-cooked dishes of Shanghai to New Yorkers—and eventually to all of the United States. Crispy Orange Beef. Lake Tung Ting Prawns. Crispy Sea Bass. Dry Sautéed String Beans. Hot and Sour Cabbage. Scallion Pancakes. These dishes originated at Shun Lee, and are now on nearly every Chinese restaurant menu across North America.

Now, in his first cookbook, Tong shares his most popular recipes from the Hunan, Sichuan, and Shanghai regions of China. Who says Chinese food is difficult to prepare at home? With The Shun Lee Cookbook, even novices have nothing to worry about. All the recipes have been tested and modified for home kitchens. If adapting a recipe for the home—like Beijing duck—proved to be impossible, Tong omitted it. The result is a collection of easy-to-make but dazzling dishes. And perhaps the best part is that they can all be made with ingredients found in supermarkets everywhere.

Chinese favorites such as Hot and Sour Soup, Sichuan Boiled Dumplings, Dry Sautéed Green Beans, and Kung Pao Shrimp are included. There are also new dishes such as Peppery Dungeness Crab, Singapore-Style Rice Noodles with Curry, Red-Cooked Beef Short Ribs, and Hunan Lamb with Scallions.

In addition to the recipes The Shun Lee Cookbook includes tips for stocking home pantries with Chinese staples, and there are more than fifty color photographs of the finished dishes throughout.

Why order takeout when you can take home The Shun Lee Cookbook?

Well written book. Much good information. Mr. Altucher help me realize how much I hold myself back, being afraid of failure and afraid of success!

Rick McCubbin

The world is changing. Markets have crashed. Jobs have disappeared. Industries have been disrupted and are being remade before our eyes. Everything we aspired to for “security,” everything we thought was “safe,” no longer is: College. Employment. Retirement. Government. It’s all crumbling down. In every part of society, the middlemen are being pushed out of the picture. No longer is someone coming to hire you, to invest in your company, to sign you, to pick you. It’s on you to make the most important decision in your life: Choose Yourself.

New tools and economic forces have emerged to make it possible for individuals to create art, make millions of dollars and change the world without “help.” More and more opportunities are rising out of the ashes of the broken system to generate real inward success (personal happiness and health) and outward success (fulfilling work and wealth).

This book will teach you to do just that. With dozens of case studies, interviews and examples–including the author, investor and entrepreneur James Altucher’s own heartbreaking and inspiring story–Choose Yourself illuminates your personal path to building a bright, new world out of the wreckage of the old.

Patricia Davids Christmas Brides of Amish Country: An Amish Christmas\The Christmas Quilt\A Hope Springs Christmas

Patricia Davids Christmas Brides of Amish Country: An Amish Christmas\The Christmas Quilt\A Hope Springs Christmas

Patricia Davids

So far, I’ve only read two of the books but they were both excellent. Patricia Davids has a way of drawing the reader into the story and making them feel as though they are there with the characters. I especially enjoyed Rebecca and Booker’s story. Amish fiction is wonderful, and combined with a Christmas theme, you can’t go wrong. I recommend this trilogy to anyone who loves Amish fiction or just a good, clean, romantic Christmas story. Patricia Davids does not disappoint! 4-5 Stars

Monday's Child (A Day to Remember Series #1)

Monday’s Child (A Day to Remember Series #1)

Linda Chaikin

I found this book very interesting and had a great storyline. I would highly recommend it to anyone. I’d give it more stars if
I could!

Rosella Ann Myles

The first book in bestselling author Linda Chaikin’s new series of contemporary mystery/romances, Monday’s Child was conceived in the poem “Monday’s child is fair of face; Tuesday’s child is full of grace….” Each book of this uncommon series uses a line from the poem to tell the story of a woman facing incredible odds as she searches to understand God’s plan for her.

For Krista von Burren, a beautiful model whose fair face and form have opened doors all over Europe, life seems perfect. Then Jordan Lucas appears. Jordan is working with an investigative journalist to uncover an international banking scandal dating back to Hitler’s Germany. When he tells Krista that the heirloom ring she wears did not come from her German grandmother, as she thought, but from his aunt who died in a concentration camp, Krista is stunned. Could her grandfather and father, both Swiss bankers, possibly have been involved in such a thing? Dark ripples of fear and haunting guilt begin to move through her family, and Krista suddenly finds herself involved in a stunning, unforeseen series of events.

In the midst of her search for truth, a tragic accident changes Krista’s life in ways she could never have imagined. She comes to learn that her true source of happiness lies not in her fair face, but in her faith in God. And she finds the kind of love she has always prayed for–a love that goes beyond outward beauty and reaches to her very heart and soul.

Monday’s Child is sure to appeal to Linda’s current fans and introduce many new readers to great Christian fiction.
