Sinfully Easy Delicious Desserts

Sinfully Easy Delicious Desserts

Alice Medrich

A MUST BUY I’m a busy mom. I have 2 kids under the age of 3 and a husband who works a ton. I love to cook and would call myself a “fair” baker. I received Alice Medrich’s book a couple weeks ago and literally have not put it down. It is already covered in cocoa powder with a few buttery fingerprints. I have found it extremely mom friendly and even made some brown butter brownies with my kids~! Most of the recipes you can prepare in a food processor or one bowl. Genius. Pure Genius. I cannot say enough about how nice it feels to make a homemade dessert AND have an afternoon activity all in one. I say, this is a must have cookbook for any library.

Defining Delicious

Homemade desserts just got quicker, easier, and smarter

Alice Medrich rewrites the dessert menu for cooks in search of totally doable desserts without hours of prep. In Sinfully Easy Delicious Desserts, you’ll find the quickest lemon tart, a lattice-free linzer (mixed entirely in the food processor), one-bowl French chocolate torte (yes, the real thing, but easier to make), imaginative ways with ice cream, chic puddings and mousses to swoon over, and gooey pies with no-fault press-in crusts. Even soufflés for beginners. And you won’t need a rolling pin, a pastry brush, or the skills of a professional baker. As always, Alice’s recipes are foolproof and well tested, and her tips for success will make all cooks—even those nervous about baking—confident in the kitchen.

Plus there are more than 100 ideas for spur-of-the-moment desserts that don’t even involve baking, including fantastic ideas for ways to dress up a bar of chocolate, a pint of strawberries, a handful of dried fruit, fresh cheese, gingerbread, amaretti, and more.

And of course all those spot-on combinations for which Alice Medrich is so well known, such as Grilled Pineapple with Coffee Ice Cream, Lemon-Scented Peach Crisp, Salted-Caramel Banana Bread Pudding, and Coconut Pecan Torte.

A Hobbit Devotional: Bilbo Baggins and the Bible

A Hobbit Devotional: Bilbo Baggins and the Bible

Ed Strauss

The author was really inspired by the Hobbit’s and I have been greatly blessed by the way in which he has put the Christian point of view and applied it to lives. If you work with children/teens, this would be great, as you could certainly get the attention of your audience with references to the Hobbit’s which is a great favourite at the moment. Would not hesitate to recommend this to all. Great.

Jane Eyre

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking

Susan Cain

So Good! This book puts everything about introverts into perspective. I will possibly reread at some point but it was especially clarifying from a work point of view that not everyone is the extrovert, full on leader but can still make a valuable contribution.

Buy it for the introvert in your life.

Lisa Ballinger

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled “quiet,” it is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society–from van Gogh’s sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer.

Passionately argued, impressively researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet shows how dramatically we undervalue introverts, and how much we lose in doing so. Taking the reader on a journey from Dale Carnegie’s birthplace to Harvard Business School, from a Tony Robbins seminar to an evangelical megachurch, Susan Cain charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal in the twentieth century and explores its far-reaching effects. She talks to Asian-American students who feel alienated from the brash, backslapping atmosphere of American schools. She questions the dominant values of American business culture, where forced collaboration can stand in the way of innovation, and where the leadership potential of introverts is often overlooked. And she draws on cutting-edge research in psychology and neuroscience to reveal the surprising differences between extroverts and introverts.

Perhaps most inspiring, she introduces us to successful introverts–from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Finally, she offers invaluable advice on everything from how to better negotiate differences in introvert-extrovert relationships to how to empower an introverted child to when it makes sense to be a “pretend extrovert.”

This extraordinary book has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how introverts see themselves.

Till Morning Is Nigh: A Wortham Family Christmas

Till Morning Is Nigh: A Wortham Family Christmas

Leisha Kelly

This book was so good and made me want to continue to read all of the County Road Chronicles. It is told beautifully and has so many twists and turns in the whole set, you just have to keep reading. Really makes you want to see how this family grows through the years.

Joye J. Rogers

It is December of 1932, just one year after the Worthams and the Hammonds lost Wilametta Hammond and Emma Graham in one terrible night. The Christmas spirit seems largely absent again this year. George Hammond has disappeared, and Julia Wortham’s house is filled to overflowing with the Hammond children, several of whom are coming down with a mysterious illness. As Christmas nears, the children’s homemade nativity scene takes on a life of its own, bringing comfort in the midst of uncertainty and hard times.
This heartfelt novella lets readers share Christmas with the Worthams and the Hammonds and discover the strength of faith, love, and family.

The Christmas Scrapbook

The Christmas Scrapbook

Philip Gulley

Sam Gardner, pastor of the Harmony Friends Meeting, usually gets in trouble because of the pathetic Christmas gifts he gives his wife, Barbara, every year. This year he has a great idea and decides to make a scrapbook for his wife. He enrolls in a scrapbooking class and finds himself the only male there. The teacher soon discovers that he doesn’t have many skills which can be used in scrapbooking and she makes his life miserable. Added to this, Barbara becomes suspicious that something is going on with Sam and he is not attending a men’s meeting on Wednesdays as he has told her. Soon much of the town of Harmony is involved in Sam’s subterfuge on some level. This book contains a lot of chuckles but also some insight into what makes for a perfect Christmas gift.

Karen Potts

It’s autumn in Harmony, and Pastor Sam Gardner has vowed to be ready for Christmas. Determined to redeem a dreadful history of gift giving, Sam enrolls in a scrapbooking class to make a Christmas gift his wife will never forget. However, Sam’s absence from their home every Wednesday night, coupled with his fishy alibi of attending a men’s group, raises her suspicions.

Meanwhile, Sam struggles in the class and must attempt to complete his project with only the help of his faithful secretary, Frank. As Christmas fast approaches and rumors of Sam’s Wednesday night absences swirl along with the snow, a series of mishaps leads to a Christmas no one will soon forget.
