Si-cology 1: Tales and Wisdom from Duck Dynasty’s Favorite Uncle
Loved this book! Could not put it down. It’s as if Si is sitting with you. I love the Robertson family.
Hey, another thing you have to know: my stories are kind of like my vocabulary. You might have noticed I like to say “hey” quite a bit. “Hey” can mean anything. It can mean “yes,” it can mean “maybe,” and it can mean “no.” Hey, it could mean “next week.” The bottom line is, you have to understand “hey” to understand me.
And if you know anything about Silas Merritt Robertson, you know I’m a hard rascal to figure out.

Happy, Happy, Happy: My Life and Legacy as the Duck Commander
This book was a great insight to the Duck Commander. They talk of their faith on TV , but this really brings it to reality. I think ever man should read this book!
LIVING THE DREAM
Duck calls—though the source of his livelihood—are not what makes Phil Robertson the man he is today. When asked what matters in his life, he’s quick to say, “Faith, family, ducks—in that order.”
It isn’t often that a person can live a dream, but Phil Robertson, aka The Duck Commander, has proven that it is possible with vision, hard work, helping hands, and an unshakable faith in the Almighty. Phil’s is the remarkable story of one man who followed the call he received from God and soon after invented a duck call that would begin an incredible journey to the life he had always dreamed of for himself and his family. In the love of his country, his family, and his maker, Phil has finally found the ingredients to the “good life” he always wanted.
If you ever wind up sitting face-to-face with Phil, you’ll see that his enthusiasm and passion for duck hunting and the Lord is no act—it is truly who he is.
If you’ve watched the exceedingly popular A&E® program Duck Dynasty®, you already know the famed Phil Robertson. As patriarch of the Robertson clan and creator of Duck Commander duck calls, he fearlessly leads his family in a responsible work ethic and an active faith.
But what you don’t know is his life before the show. In the pages of this book, you’ll learn of Phil’s colorful past and his wild road to the “happy, happy, happy” life he leads today. Before the “happy,” Phil’s passion for the outdoors and wild living led him down some shady paths. As a young husband and father, he became the proprietor of a rough bar and lived a life, as he says, of “romping, stomping, and ripping” for a number of years. He even left his wife and young boys for a short period of time.
Through it all, Phil Robertson has lived his life as a “called” man. Called to live off the land, called to leave a starring role in Louisiana Tech football (playing ahead of Terry Bradshaw) for duck hunting, called to wild living, called to create a new kind of duck call—and finally, called to follow God and lead a life of faith.
In this eye-opening and rousing book, you’ll find stories that will shock you, as well as those that will inspire you. You’ll get to know the man behind the legend, and you’ll come away better for it.

Rick Warren’s Bible Study Methods: Twelve Ways You Can Unlock God’s Word
I purchased this book, as it was recommended by one of my pastors. It is fantastic! It has 12 different methods for studying the Bible. It begins with the easiest method and progressively gets more difficult and involved. You could easily just learn the first few ways of Bible study and get your money’s worth out of this book. Each chapter not only details the how to’s, it also gives a detailed example of a study using the method described. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to know a variety of ways to study the Bible.

Saving Leonardo: A Call to Resist the Secular Assault on Mind, Morals, and Meaning
This is a fantastic book that highlights ideas and philosophies in the science, the arts, literature, etc. that we Christians have been ignoring to our own hurt for a long time now. A must read for all Christians.
Pearcey depicts the revolutionary thinkers and artists, the ideas and events, leading step by step to the unleashing of secular worldviews that undermine human dignity and liberty. She crafts a fresh approach that exposes the real-world impact of ideas in philosophy, science, art, literature, and film–voices that surround us in the classroom, in the movie theater, and in our living rooms.
A former agnostic, Pearcey offers a persuasive case for historic Christianity as a holistic and humane alternative. She equips readers to counter the life-denying worldviews that are radically restructuring society and pervading our daily lives. Whether you are a devoted Christian, determined secularist, or don’t know quite where you stand, reading Saving Leonardo will unsettle established views and topple ideological idols. Includes more than 100 art reproductions and illustrations that bring the book’s themes to life.

If God Is Good: Why Do We Hurt?
Exactly what I needed at the right time, this book has renewed my hope. This is my first book non-fiction by Alcorn, and if his other non-fiction books are anything like this one I will be purchasing more. I don’t think I could finish the full with out having finished this first, it addressed the questions at the right pace without dwelling on something for too long.
Out of the deepest hurts of the human condition, Randy Alcorn brings into clear focus our most pressing questions about evil and suffering—including those that wrench our souls when we or someone we love is victimized by evil or assaulted by disease.
He faces these questions with seasoned sensitivity, skillful insight, and a heart of compassion. He dodges none of the difficulties, and never lapses into platitudes, hand-wringing, or oversimplification.
On this troubling but inescapable topic, you’ll find frank acknowledgment of the inherent limitations that set humanity apart from the God who has none. There’s also generous, real encouragement that brings God nearer in our understanding when we need His comfort the most. And amid our heavy doubts and swirling confusion on this topic, Randy Alcorn points us ultimately toward Jesus as “the only answer bigger than the questions.”

Crime of Fashion (The Hartfield Mysteries)
I could not put this book down. The characters are all fun and the mystery is woven into a story of two people who have life issues that we can relate to. The love story is wonderful. I can’t wait to read the next one in this series.

Overall this was a very sweet book that had moments of heartbreak as well as laughter. This book is in the Christian fiction category, but I never found it to be preachy. I’d recommend it to my Christian and non-Christian friends alike.
Words have power. Add a solid reputation behind those words, and they have the power to destroy.
It began with a lie.
Mac’s life changed irrevocably with a false accusation. Blissfully unaware of the carnage she left behind when she moved from Brant’s Corners, Savannah Forrester is back and when Mac sees her at church–with a boy–he wants answers.
For eight years he’s lived under the cloud of her accusations–without defending himself. He kept her secret. He endured the shame and the life-altering consequences.
Savannah can set the record straight. Mac says no. The ultimate question remains: what is best for Rory.
And who is Rory really?

All in all, this was a very intriguing story of an unconventional, long-distance relationship that dealt with temptation, boundaries, understandings, misunderstandings, and dreams of happily-ever-after.
Their chemistry–so intense that they can’t risk affection. Their temptation threshold is simply too narrow to risk.
Cara has a unique talent for making anyone feel at ease. Jonathan prefers to listen rather than speak.
But some things must be spoken–never assumed.

Here We Come (Aggie’s Inheritance)
I know this is supposed to be the last book in the series, but I’m not ready to see it end!
This was just as great as the first two, and it was so neat to see the “little” family all come together. Chautona once again weaved a realistic, fun and interesting story about people you’d think lived on your street.
Looking forward to many more books from this author!

I came away with great respect for the courage and unity of this family, as well as the compassion and unity of the community surrounding them. I also love the fact that in the act of purchasing this book, we get to become a part of this ongoing story!
One little boy. One terrified family. One loving community.
Life changes–sometimes in an instant. For the Cox family, that change comes on a lazy June evening. A raven flies into a power line and falls to its death as a transformer blows. Three-year-old Nathan Cox points to the ground and says, “Look, Daddy!”
Fire consumes a fence and Jon Cox leads his son to safety–or so he thinks. Impending twilight hides a live power line that lies in the shadows of the alley.
Screams rip through the night air and the hearts of Jon and Kelly Cox as Nathan writhes in pain. Jon jerks his son to safety, but not before the damage is done.
The paramedics agree. “He should be dead.” The doctors work through torturous therapies to heal him–therapies little Nathan doesn’t understand. His words rip through the hearts of his parents–his family. “Don’t hurt me, Daddy.”
But through the pain, the fear, the loss of the carefree innocence of a life before trauma, bright moments appear and grow. Strangers from all over the world band together, united in prayer for the healing of one pain-riddled little boy. Strangers all across the country offer help in the way of fundraisers.
And through it all, one community shows the power of uniting together in one purpose. Car washes, bake sales, business donations and discounts, donation cans, and a recycling drive appear one after the other in an effort to help offset the staggering financial burden of nearly a month in a hospital–without insurance.
In one great leap of faith and show of love, a group of musicians gather to present a benefit concert. Businesses offer free fliers, matching donation funds, and volunteer time. People appear from all corners of the town to do their part to ensure that the concert is a rousing success.
One theme runs through the course of each event and surmounts every obstacle. “God’s got this.” And little Nathan? He’s the inspiration that ties it all together. His heart wrenching cries and screams as he tries to walk again unites a community. His goofy smile and loopy comments add hope amid the pain of suffering. Ask him–just ask him what happened. He’ll tell you. “A bird died.”

A Bird Died is the fictionalized account of one little boy’s journey, one family’s tragedy, and one community’s love and support amidst it all.

The Baker’s Dozen: A Saint Nicholas Tale
It’s been a long time since I have read a children’s book . This evening I treated myself to this delightful tale with its beautiful pictures and wonderful message. A great addition to any library, young or old.
Van Amsterdam the baker was well known for his honesty as well as for his fine Saint Nicholas cookies. He always gave his customers exactly what they paid for — not more and not less. So, he was not about to give in when a mysterious old woman comes to him on Saint Nicholas Day and insists that a dozen is thirteen!
The woman’s curse puts an end to the baker’s business, and he believes it would take Saint Nicholas to help him. But if he receives that help, will it be exactly what he imagined?
Find out in this inspiring legend from Dutch colonial New York about the birth of an honored American custom.

Beauty and the Beast (Fairy eBooks)
I was curious to read “Beauty and the Beast” since up until now I had only seen the Disney movie, and I knew that would not do it justice. After reading this version, I have a new appreciation and broader joy for the story, and the artwork is amazing

A Wrinkle in Time (Madeleine L’Engle’s Time Quintet)
This book is very good, I can’t wait to read the rest of this sieres! It is exiting, heart warming and, at some times, heart stopping!
“Wild nights are my glory,” the unearthly stranger told them. “I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me sit down for a moment, and then I’ll be on my way. Speaking of ways, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract.”
A tesseract (in case the reader doesn’t know) is a wrinkle in time. To tell more would rob the reader of the enjoyment of Miss L’Engle’s unusual book. A Wrinkle in Time, winner of the Newbery Medal in 1963, is the story of the adventures in space and time of Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O’Keefe (athlete, student, and one of the most popular boys in high school). They are in search of Meg’s father, a scientist who disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government on the tesseract problem.
A Wrinkle in Time is the winner of the 1963 Newbery Medal.
