House Mommy’s Boredom Busters – 201 Fun Things to Do With Kids!

Karen Chapuis

This is the best gathering of fun home activities for kids in one book. Fun for the whole family. Highly recommend it!

Shawna Hawkins

If you’re like me, you may not always want to have the kids in front of the TV or computer for hours at a time just to keep them busy. But it isn’t easy…

As a former kindergarten teacher and current stay-at-home mom, I know just how difficult it can be to find fun things to do to keep them occupied (without driving you crazy!)

That’s why I’m always on the lookout for fun, tech-free things to do with my boys. And because it’s getting more challenging as they get older – especially considering how addictive video games and computers can be – I decided to compile a list of fun ideas that could help keep them busy.

As a “mommy blogger,” I try to share useful ideas at my site, HouseMommy.com. But as my list kept growing over the months, I realized it would be more helpful to people if I were to organize, explain and share these activities in a little ebook – “House Mommy’s Boredom Busters”…
From toddlers to teens – and everyone in between!

I’ve included a variety of ideas for boys and girls of all ages, grouped by season for year-round fun. While there is an emphasis on outdoor activities, you’ll find dozens of fun things to do indoors on those cold, rainy days as well. Many of the ideas also include links to useful websites for additional information.

While this ebook is obviously written from the perspective of a stay-at-home mom, it’s for anyone who is looking for a few fun boredom busters that kids will enjoy. Perfect for moms and dads, grandparents, friends and babysitters (and a great gift idea, too!)

You can choose to do an activity with your child, or simply help them get started on something of their own. I realize that not every idea is suitable for every child. But based on my years of teaching and being a stay-at-home mom, I’ve learned you only need a few good ideas you can count on to keep kids happy, busy and engaged for hours at a time whenever boredom rears its ugly head.
What better way to spend your time?

You don’t have to spend much money to have fun with children. All that matters is that you’re willing to give them a little of your time and attention. This collection is based on what has worked for me – as both a teacher and a parent. Whatever activities you decide to do, I hope they help you to better enjoy the time you spend together, while creating special memories that last a lifetime…

Alphabet Success - Keeping it Simple. The Secret to Success.

Alphabet Success – Keeping it Simple. The Secret to Success.

Tim Fargo

Price: FREE

If you’re looking for a book that can change your life without insulting or intimidating you in the process, then you owe it to yourself to read ALPHABET SUCCESS.

Christian Dumais

What is freedom? What is success? Isn’t success closing the gap between you and what you desire? Don’t you want that sooner, instead of later?

Want to find a way to reach your goals faster? To have money? To have more money? To be rich? To be free?

Then Alphabet Success is the book for you. It summarizes the powerful techniques Tim Fargo used to launch his company in an extra bedroom with a credit card for financing, make the Inc. 500 list twice and then sell his over $20 million dollar company and retire less than seven years later at the ripe old age of 43.

Is that fast enough for you to reach your goals?

Does that sound like success?

Do you want the freedom and power to live your way?

This is no long, tortured journey filled with immense sweat and pain. In Tim’s opinion, if one way is easier, and delivers the same result, it is clearly better.

One of his favorite sayings? “You don’t get any points in life doing things the hard way.”

Reaching your dreams does not have to be an endless nightmare. It can, and should be fun. At least Tim thinks that makes a lot more sense.

Having spent the majority of his business career in a t-shirt and shorts, even though his clients were insurance companies, Tim has an unconventional outlook. Appearances only matter when the other person cares. Otherwise results are what people truly remember.

The goal of the book is for you to achieve your goals, the results you want, and have fun along the way. Dare to be different! Don’t try to win playing with the competitions strategy. Play to win, but play your way!

The book, like the concept, is short and concise. By focusing on the quality of the content, Tim want your journey to be as fast as possible. Go on. Get started!

Be Committed (Ruth & Esther): Doing God’s Will Whatever the Cost (The BE Series Commentary)

Warren W. Wiersbe

Price: FREE

In looking for a Bible study text to offer this fall one of our ladies offered her suggestion of Be Committed by Warren Wiersbe. Before I could finish her copy, I ordered my own so I might make personal notes as I was reading. There is so much helpful information I wanted to come back to.

Jacqueline Babcock

For both Ruth and Esther, God used stressful circumstances to bring about His eternal purposes. Ruth’s committment to the God of Naomi affected every generation to come, as she became an ancestor of King David and more importantly, Jesus Christ. Esther’s obedience led to the preservation of her people at a moment in history when all seemed lost.

The stories of Ruth and Esther will make you contemplate: Would I trust God enough to do what they did? Go chapter by chapter through the books of Ruth and Esther to see how the lives of these two remarkable women epitomize the type of faith that glorifies God.

Breaking the Math Curse – Finding Delight in Numbers (Homeschooling ABCs)

Terri Johnson

Price: $0.99

Arithmetic and higher mathematics seem to be universally accepted as a difficult subject which will bring tears and frustration to all who learn it. And we all must learn it. It is almost a foregone conclusion that your students will have struggles over math concepts. However, many times, the subject of math can cause some real struggle within your homeschool. We have shed many tears over our math books (yes, I have cried alongside my children when I couldn’t explain a concept for them to understand). BUT THIS DOES NOT HAVE TO BE!! Yes, new math concepts can be hard to learn, but when we make math fun, it brings laughs instead of tears.

The New England Primer (1777)

The New England Primer (1777)

Anonymous

Price: $0.99

For over one hundred years this book has been the basic textbook for new readers in America. Most of America’s heros most likely learned to read using this book. Isn’t it a shame that today it is against the law to use this textbook because of the quotes from the Bible. All parents should keep a copy of this book in their possession to remind them of the roots by which we have all come!

“mike39370”

The New England Primer was the first textbook ever printed in America and was used to teach reading and Bible lessons in our schools until the twentieth century. In fact, many of the Founders and their children learned to read from the Primer.

I think that parents who are serious about teaching their children to read and who understand the value of supplementing their child’s school curriculum, will appreciate the Primer and subsequent titles in the McGuffey series. At the same time, they will expose themselves and their children to a bit of Americana!

Andrea Broomfield

Note – this Kindle version of McGuffey’s Primer contains all of the original illustrations and formatting that are in the printed books. Comments below that say otherwise are referring to a different Kindle edition of this book.

Filled with happy tales, good morals, and a systematic approach to teaching reading, it is clear why McGuffey’s Readers have been among the most loved and most used books in American history. McGuffey’s Primer starts out with the basics of the alphabet and gradually builds up the phonics skills and sight word recognition until the child is reading full paragraphs and narratives. The strength of this Primer is in its sequential gradation of skills. Its beauty is in its timeless stories.
