Heaven’s Child, a mother’s journey from heartbreak to healing, second edition
Price: FREE
This is a great book. I have never written a review but want to write about Heaven’s Child. Beautiful story. I normally stay away from books with heartbreaking backdrops but make exceptions for really good books that have that special magic.
SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD SARAH, younger twin by two hours, wrote “And now it is time for my story to end because we have finally reached the beginning.” Did she know? How could she have guessed? Or did she just happen to choose words that had a greater meaning for her life about to be tragically cut short?
A big-hearted memoir, Heaven’s Child captures the reader with a profound look inside a mother’s courageous journey through grief to her ultimate spiritual renewal. From the exquisite pain of loss to the magical buoyancy of hope, author Caroline Flohr intimately shares her family’s struggle and reinvention after the unexpected death of her twin teenage daughter, Sarah. Finding her way back to joy, Caroline reminds us how we all must learn to live presently, love whole-heartedly and when the time comes, gracefully let go. As young Sarah wisely wrote in her high school homework assignment, even an ending can turn into a new beginning.
This universally touching story is an inspired guide showing us all how the human spirit’s innate love and resilience can heal, transform and reignite our soul even after life’s most tragic losses.
Perhaps the worst thing that can happen to a parent is experiencing the loss of a child. However, as Caroline shares, it’s possible to turn one’s devastation into spiritual enlightenment and to weave the tragedy into the fabric of your life and your family. From the early morning knock at the front door–every parent’s worst nightmare–Caroline immerses readers into the raw emotions of a fatal car accident involving eight teenagers who take a midnight joyride in a small community. Like teens across the country, Sarah had parents who cared, attended a good school and lived in a safe community. And yet, life carries no guarantees.
As the tragedy unfolds, Caroline details the many phases she and her family and community moved through on their path to accepting–and embracing–the grievous loss, and the aftermath which continues for a lifetime. She discusses the power of love and faith as related to death and healing; the importance of connecting with family, friends, communities, Nature and the Universe; the significance of our intuition and the synchronicity in our lives; the imprint of our inner strength when faced with adversity; the intersection of choices and accountability; and the celebration of life so lives can expand in the present. She celebrates the enduring strength of family, and as she weaves the pain of loss into the fabric of her family and her life, she finds herself enriched, not diminished, by her experience. As Caroline challenges the reader to consider death not as the end of the journey but as a beginning, the reader finds Heaven’s Child to be a truly riveting memoir celebrating life and death.
Heaven’s Child is also a must-read for every teen, parent, and teacher. It’s that story of caution and
vigilance, decision-making and accountability, living in the moment, and being constantly aware that each day could be our last. It’s a story speaking to our teenagers about the consequences of decisions and what happens to our families and communities when life is cut short.
For others, it’s that story of resilience, of learning to weave tragedy into our lives, embracing our humanity, and living with authenticity. It’s that story that lets you know you are able to weather just about any adversity, and that just as you live to embrace the present, you must embrace your loved ones because life does come to an end, sometimes sooner than expected. Heaven’s Child is that compassionate story that inspires and motivates as you explore your own spiritual journey of loss and love, hope and healing.
Told with a unique gripping voice and written with an artful compelling storyline, Heaven’s Child is a story that has relevance for all people.

15 Recipes For Gourmet Food Gifts: Edible Handmade Gifts From Your Kitchen
Price: FREE
When I received the book the first thing I noticed was the attention to detail. There is not a step missed or a process overlooked. A lot of times in my gourmet cookbooks a recipe will call for an item that I have never heard of, let alone know where to purchase. Ms. Swanson has erased any concerns by having links included with each recipe. There are links to sites that you can purchase the containers to store the products in, and links on where to buy the hard to find items. I was really impressed.
• Give a jar of Home Cured Olives as a gift for fathers who have everything and really don’t need another pair of socks.
• A jar of Homemade Bitters fits the bill for making the perfect cocktail to celebrate a promotion.
• Sweet and Hot Homemade Mustard is perfect when you need a hostess gift for Christmas.
• Give a pound of Home Roasted Coffee Beans for your coffee-loving friend’s birthday.
• Homemade Chocolate Truffles recipe is great for mothers or sweethearts with a sweet tooth.

Recipes for Gourmet Food Gifts has 15 recipes, each of which include: lead time (from 20-minute Perfect Vinaigrette to 2 months for Homemade Vanilla Bean Extract), hands-on preparation time, materials and ingredients needed, and clear step-by-step instructions.
What makes this book especially useful is the convenience of its extensive links for top recommended sources of the harder to find ingredients. Never heard of “wild cherry bark”? Don’t worry, that’s what the links are there for! Just a few clicks and you’ll have everything you need. This way you can spend your time on the fun part: making the gifts. There are also links for attractive packaging (read: cute jars, boxes, gift tags, and labels) to finish your handmade gift with style.

How God Became King: The Forgotten Story of the Gospels
Price: $3.99
On the surface, then, the book appears to aim to help readers rediscover what the gospels are about and how to read them for all they’re worth. Upon closer inspection, however, How God Became King is much more ambitious, for anyone who takes seriously Wright’s proposals for how to read the gospels will find that they transform the way one reads not only the gospels, but the entire Bible.
Familiar: Since Christian worship services began, areading from the gospels has played a central role.
Studied: For over two hundred years scholars havechallenged and defended the central claims of thegospels: miracles, historical accuracy, the divinity ofJesus, and more.
But Forgotten: Still, leading Bible scholar N. T.Wright reveals shocking news: We have all forgottenwhat the four gospels are about.
“Despite centuries of intense and heavy industryexpended on the study of all sorts of features of thegospels,” Wright writes, “we have often managed tomiss the main thing that they, all four of them, aremost eager to tell us. What we need is not just a bitof fine-tuning, an adjustment here and there. We needa fundamental rethink about what the gospels aretrying to tell us.”
What Wright offers is an opportunity to confront thesepowerful texts afresh, as if we are encountering themfor the first time. How God Became King reveals thesurprising, unexpected, and shocking news of thegospels: this is the story of a new king, a new kind ofking, a king who has changed everything, and a kingwho invites us to be part of his new world.
