Journey back to 1858 Berlin, Ohio, in this free short story e-romance from The Amish of Apple Grove series by Lori Copeland and Virginia Smith. For 19-year-old Jonas Switzer, the promise of a productive life as an Amish farmer is only as real as a dream on the western horizon. Living on the charity of the Bylers, and with no claim to a family farm, Jonas’s future depends on a bold plan and an ambitious move. He also longs to catch the eye of Caroline Hersberger, the most beautiful young woman in the village, and share his dream with her. Will Matthew Kennel woo her first? Will she reject Jonas outright? Only God knows, and only He can provide Jonas with a godly wife and a home in the West.

I was pleasantly surprised with the depth of history provided in this new series. I have read other books by this author and believe this was the most in-depth fiction book I’ve encountered by him, so far. I look forward to the next installments of this series. The book follows the viewpoint of 4 families during the years leading up to the Civil War: A Northern family with no slaves, a plantation Southern family that mistreats their slaves, a forward-thinking Southern family who frees their slaves, and a runaway slave family. These families intertwine to give a wide spectrum to the stories within the series.

M. Caldwell

In the Civil War-era South, Richmond and Carolyn Davidson live lives of ease as wealthy plantation owners. But even though their wealth and livelihood depends on slave ownership, their Christian consciences speak against the practice.

When the Davidsons decide to follow their own moral judgment and God’s will by freeing their slaves, they face consequences they never could have anticipated. Risking their lives as an important link in the Underground Railroad helping runaway slaves escape to the Northern states, the Davidsons must rely on their wits—and God’s protection—to stay alive.

Of course the truest of love is that from God so with that said..I am very happy that the two characters who loved each other from the beginning finally did unite their true love for one another. This was very well-written and liked the way the author kept it moving with a nice evenly flow. It was to the point. Awesome book!

Patty Foster

It has been thirty days since Cameron Jackson last saw her husband Andrew, the town’s preacher. He’s been kidnapped from a train and taken hostage. But she believes wholeheartedly that bounty hunter Jake Collins will bring Andrew home safe and sound – to her and to their unborn child.

Jake should never have dared to promise Cameron he’d rescue her husband. Now Andrew is dying in his arms, wounded in the shootout with the gang that held him. His dying wish is for Jake to make himself right by God and take Cameron as his wife. Jake says yes – yet another promise he never should have made. He’s a gunslinger, and his desire for Cameron had once been less than honorable.

Cameron faces her grief by taking Andrew’s place behind the pulpit, and to the town’s surprise, becoming the new preacher. But as for Jake, he’s no family man. He’ll be gone after the next outlaw. She can’t believe Andrew put his faith in a man so wrong for her. And yet somehow so right…
