Good, Clean Murder: A Plain Jane Mystery

This is a great book for anyone interested in a good, clean, and entertaining read. It is not too long or too short but just the right length to offer an afternoon of entertainment. The characters are complex in their needs and desires while simple enough to offer a few humorous situations that round off the story line.

I’ve read all of Ms. Pittman’s work, and All for a Song is among her best. I found her characters believable, especially of the main character, Dorothy Lynn Dunbar. I also enjoyed her descriptions of the surroundings and the nice and not so nice people Dorothy encounters. I especially found the structure of this book intriguing. We move between Lynnie at the age of 107 in the present to Dorothy Lynn in the past at age nineteen when she decides her fate.
I do not usually read Christian Fiction but I find Ms. Pittman’s approach to be subtle and realistic. I prefer her style.
Spending a few days in St. Louis with her sister’s family, Dorothy Lynn discovers a whole new way of life—movies, music, dancing; daring fashions and fancy cars. And a dynamic charismatic evangelist . . . who just happens to be a woman. When Dorothy Lynn is offered a chance to join Aimee Semple McPherson’s crusade team, she finds herself confronted with temptations she never dreamed of. Can Dorothy Lynn embrace all the Roaring Twenties has to offer without losing herself in the process?

The first chapter made me curious, and just a few pages later I went from “reading a little” to forgetting the rest of the day’s agenda until I finished the whole thing.
Tara Lancaster can sing Amazing Grace in three harmonies, two languages, and interpret it for the hearing impaired. She can list the Bible canon backward, forward, and alphabetized. And the only time she ever missed church was at seventeen because she had pneumonia and her mom made her stay home.
But when her life shatters around her and her reputation is left in ruins, Tara decides escape is the only option. She flees halfway across the country to dog-sit, but the quiet anonymity she needs isn’t waiting in her sister’s house. Instead she finds a knife with a threatening message, a fame-hungry friend, a too-hunky neighbor, and evidence of…a ghost?
Following all the rules has gotten her nowhere. And nothing she learned in Sunday School can tell her where to go from there.

Covenant Child (Women of Faith)
Price: $1.99
I loved this book for its truths that aren’t preachy or couched in a cloak of self-righteousness. This book was an incredible parable for the way that God is ready to welcome us back if and when we finally get our act together. I loved it!
Kara and Lizzie are heiresses to one of the largest fortunes in the country. But when their father dies suddenly, the toddlers are taken from the arms of Amanda, their loving stepmother, and given to relatives who only want the children’s fortune for themselves.
Kara and Lizzie grow up questioning their worth . . . until the day when they learn the truth.
Intensely involving, emotionally charged, and infused with hope, Covenant Child is an inspiring story that challenges us to embrace the life God holds out to us.
