Welcome to ERG’s weekly Author of the Week Interview! This will be a weekly feature, and I’ll be interviewing popular authors in different genres. If you have a favorite author that you’d like to see featured, make sure to tell them to contact me.

So let’s get started. I’d like to introduce you to Marilyn Boyer. She is the author of Homeschooling and Parenting books. You can check out her website, Character Concepts to see everything Marilyn and her husband Rick have written and created for parents. Let’s get to know this great author!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and interests.
I grew up on Cape Cod and love to swim, sail, and go boating. I love to read and especially love to read about the lives of real people throughout the history of our country and their heroic sacrifices on behalf of our freedom.

2. When and why did you decide to write your first book?
People kept asking me how I was able to raise 14 kids and not only keep my sanity, but enjoy doing it. I wanted to share things I ‘d learned with others to encourage them that they can do it too.

3. Tell us about your website.
CharacterConcepts.com grew out of our day-to-day life.  We wanted our fourteen children to have fun-to-use, Bible-based character training materials but couldn’t find an organized character curriculum.  So we designed fun projects to teach character lessons from Scripture.  As time went on, we began to combine our ideas into an age-appropriate curriculum so that other parents could have the benefit of our experience.  Now, the Character Concepts Curriculum and our large selection of parenting and home schooling books and recordings give parents the hands-on tools to train up “kids of character!”

4. What makes Parenting from the Heart different from other parenting books?
Parenting from the Heart is a book of encouragement for parents helping them to focus on the really important things- like the hearts of their children.  Here is some feedback from one of our readers:

This book and its Author have been a God send! I enjoyed reading and learning from Marilyn’s book. Being a homeschooling parent myself, this book gives me the confidence that we can succeed in teaching and learning with our child(ren). Being a parent and homeschooler is Gods gift and I can now fully accept it, knowing I/we don’t need to be perfect. He is all we need to lean on during the difficult and not so difficult moments. Marilyn’s book is more of a conversation with a friend. Thank you!

“God has given us moms a beautiful gift in Marilyn’s book. I can hardly read it without crying because it ministers to my need as a mom desiring to be used by God in the lives of my family. Parenting From The Heart has helped me keep my heart and perspective centered on Christ and on His high calling on my life as a mother. It is a treasure trove of inspiration for your heart, along with the practical wisdom to help you live it out in the day-to-day. Marilyn’s spirit is beautifully soft, gentle and encouraging. This book is straight from Marilyn’s heart, and will minister to any mother of any age with any number of children.”
~ Amy, mother of three, Iowa

5. Are you planning on writing any other books in the near future?
I actually am working on several projects- Just finished writing Profiles of Valor, stories of people during America’s War for Independence, Working on Uncle Rick’s Holiday Book, a book for families to teach the meanings of our holidays to their kids, Homemade with Love, a cookbook of our family’s favorite recipes, and a book of true World War II stories many of which I learned of while interviewing World War II vets-incredible stories that must be told!

6. Who is your favorite author and book?
I love reading Randy Alcorn’s novels- Deadline and Safely Home. I love the way he weaves the gospel into it in such a way that the objections non-believers have to the gospel  are addressed and answered in such a skillful manner.

7. What book are you reading right now?
Implosion by Joel Rosenberg

8. How did you decide on the subject for your book?
My book draws on my experiences in raising 14 children and arose out of a passion to help others successfully raise their children with a passion to love the Lord and be a blessing to others.

9. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love interviewing World War II veterans with my two daughters, swimming, being involved with my family and developing character building materials to help others raise kids of character.

Thanks so much Marilyn for being our Author of the Week. Parenting from the Heart will be on sale on Tuesday for just 99 cents, make sure to grab a copy and hop on over to Marilyn’s website, Character Concepts to see more of her books!
