Accused: 1 (Pacific Coast Justice)
Price: FREE
Not sure how I’ve missed out on Janice Cantore’s previous novels, but Accused is one of the best suspense novels I’ve read in a while! The book read very much like an episode of a TV police drama . . . well, maybe two or three episodes! (Think Law & Order but cleaner and better!)
Carly’s ex-husband and fellow police officer, Nick, appears to be on her side. He’s determined to show Carly that he’s a changed man and win her back, but she isn’t convinced he won’t betray her again.
As the investigation progresses, Carly suspects a cover-up and strikes out on her own, uncertain whom she can trust. But when danger mounts, she begins to wonder if she made the right choice.

Texas Roads (A Miller’s Creek Novel)

I LOVED this story! Cathy’s writing is vibrant and fresh. It’s loaded with very likeable characters and zippy dialog. I enjoyed getting to know Dani. What an honest woman she was. Steve was a great hero who would do whatever he could to protect those he loves. Aunt Beth is a gem. What a wise woman of God. The secondary characters were very well drawn and I felt like I wanted to move to Miller Creek myself. This was Cathy Bryant’s first novel but her writing is that of a seasoned author. She kept me turning pages from start to finish. You could tell this author was writing from the heart. I love the spiritual message of this story. We can all relate to finding a place to call home. I’m looking forward with great anticipation to future works by Cathy Bryant. I highly recommend this book.
Steve Miller is determined to rescue his dying hometown. When vandals jeopardize the renovation, he can’t help but suspect Dani, whose strange behavior has become fodder for local gossips. Can Steve and Dani call a truce for a higher cause, and in the process help Dani recognize the true meaning of home?

There were so many reasons I enjoyed this book, but the top two have to be the believable characters and the humor. I laughed out loud more than once 😀 Also teared up–signs of a good book for me! Well written, easy and enjoyable read, hard to put down. I appreciated the Christian themes (forgiveness, growth) and the clean romance. Waiting for the next from this author!

Every so often I read a book that leaves me feeling like the plot is entirely too possible, and I shudder to imagine that it might come true. Fatherless is just such a book, depicting a not-so-distant future where it becomes routine for an elderly person to end their burdensome life, where the average man doesn’t even bother to have children but instead remains the eternal playboy, and where the concept of marriage is simply laughable. I found the plot to be fascinating, and needless to say I was hooked from the first sentence and held captive to the last page. Dobson and Bruner are a dynamic writing team, and have created unforgettable characters who will draw you in to their complex lives.
The book is sure to appeal to a wide audience, as there’s no real violence to scare off readers used to more gentle reads. However, the plot is absolutely action-packed and filled with every day people working through deep ethical issues, ones that we are already facing on a much smaller scale. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to live in a world where helping someone die because they are elderly and disabled becomes viewed as something heroic! I pray God saves us from such a future.
Fatherless is an excellent start to a series that is bound to not only entertain, but to leave you thinking about where our world is headed in the near future. I encourage you to pick up this book and journey with the characters through some frightening possibilities that will make you thankful that we’re not living in that world – yet. 5 out of 5 stars.
In the dystopian tradition of books like 1984, Brave New World, and The Hunger Games, FATHERLESS vividly imagines a future in which present-day trends come to sinister fruition. The second and third books in the series, CHILDLESS and GODLESS, will follow at eight-month intervals.
Review
“Dobson and Bruner have written a thought-provoking read…this fast-paced thriller will find an audience with fans of Ted Dekker’s suspense novels.” (Library Journal )

Provided as a complimentary copy by Booksneeze, Isle of Shadows proved to be everything it promised. Set in the turbulent and obscure times of the “silent” period (between the Old and New Testaments), Isle of Shadows described the sad but riveting life of Tessa, a high-class prostitute to a key political figure on a Greek island. Despite Tessa’s best attempts to seal off her heart, an elderly Jewish servant wins her trust and demonstrates Yahweh’s love to her during her time of deepest need. The love of the One True God and of a young man of character eventually win Tessa over and help her to face the formidable forces seeking to destroy her.
Tracy Higley is becoming a real favorite of mine. Her writing is polished and nuanced, feeding the reader meaty Scriptural truths while capturing attention through rich detail and characterization. Tessa’s internal transformation speaks to any reader who is struggling with guilt over the past and is looking for a fresh start and the healing power of forgiveness. I especially liked the surprise Biblical historical character link to the Messiah revealed at the end of the book! Higley hits another home run in Isle of Shadows, for sure!
Enslaved in a World of Money and Power, Tessa Dares to be Free.
Raised as courtesan to wealthy and powerful men, Tessa of Delos serves at the whim of her current patron, the politician Glaucus. After ten years with him, Tessa has abandoned all desire for freedom or love, choosing instead to lock her heart away.
But when Glaucus meets a violent death in his own home, Tessa grasps at a fragile hope. Only she knows of his death. If she can keep it a secret long enough, she can escape.
Tessa throws herself on the mercy of the Greek god Helios, but finds instead unlikely allies in Nikos, a Greek slave, and Simeon, Glaucus’s Jewish head servant. As Simeon introduces her to a God unlike any she has ever known and Nikos begins to stir feelings she had thought long dead, Tessa fights to keep her heart protected.
As an assassination plot comes to light, Tessa must battle for her own freedom—and for those to whom she has begun to open her heart—as forces collide that shatter the island’s peace.
“. . . Readers will find much to enjoy here: fine writing, suspense, mystery, faith, love, and a new look at an old story.” —Publishers Weekly (for Garden of Madness)

I love this blog! It has helped me find some authors I enjoy, and find lots of fun, educational, or interesting reads. I wanted to let you know that I was unpleasantly surprised by “The Five Kisses” by Karla Darcy. The “wit” revolved around suggestive jokes, in fact the whole book was innuendo. I doubt Jane Austen would appreciate her name being connected with such a book, and I doubt it was your intention to promote it, either. I wouldn’t have mentioned anything, but I noticed it was on today’s post again, so I thought I’d let you know to avoid posting it in the future.
Thanks for letting me know Amber, I’ll take that one down.
