The Hunt for the Well Hidden Treasure (K.I.D.S. Adventure Series)
Price: FREE
This is a great book to read with your kids! Its very cleverly written, appealing to kids with its mix of modern day adventure, and enduring lure of ancient hidden treasure. The book sets the tone all parents look for, with its mix of smart, friendly and outgoing characters, and it has just enough “kid like” behavior to strike a chord with children; with canoe rides in the dark, toy airplanes serving as surveillance, and a beach house hideout. Aged 8 and 5, my sons both loved the book, and continue to talk about hidden treasure and writing their own adventure stories, days after finishing the book. Now – that’s a sign of a terrific book! Read it today!
When classmates Will, Mikey, Susan, and Evelyn learn of the discovery, they are unable to resist the urge to join in the hunt. With Will’s knowledge of the outdoors, Mikey’s electronics expertise, Susan’s computer wizardry, and Evelyn’s photography skills, they are certain they can unravel the pirate’s secret. Facing long odds, the seventh-graders embark on an adventure of a lifetime, discovering that the mystery deepens as they desperately hunt for clues, decipher historical landmarks, and match wits with their ruthless competitors.

Mind Hurdles: Having Fun with States & Capitals in the United States (Interactive Quiz Book)
Price: FREE
I’m a history geek, so was curious to see how the author would incorporate basic knowledge about the states into a fun Kindle book. The answer: She created a bunch of quizzes – and who doesn’t like them? Not only does she have the child (and parent) guess the capital of each state, she also tells the state’s nickname. And, if the answer is incorrect, you get to go back and try again. I thought it was a fun way to learn U.S. geography – and recommend it if you’re looking for a quiz-based approach to states and capitals.
What does interactive mean? While it is multiple-choice, it is vastly improved over the typical multiple-choice format. When a wrong answer is given, the game keeps prompting your child back to the question until the right answer is chosen. The game also congratulates your child when the correct answer is selected.
Imagine your child being the first and possibly the only one in the class who already knows the states and their capitals? A panel of life-long educators designed this fun to read and fast-paced states and capitals game book. As with all the Mind Hurdles books, its contents are overseen by the Mind Hurdles Advisory Board.
As parents, we have all had the experience of trying to keep our kids occupied during doctor’s appointments, standing in grocery store lines, flying in a plane, or riding cross-country in a car. Like most responsible parents, you probably cringe at the idea of giving your child fluff to read. You can feel confident that this states and capitals quiz book is a 50 states game that will not only merely entertain and occupy your child, but it will also improve his or her mind at the same time.

This is a book that should be on every child’s bookshelf. In it, a child can explore some tough and scary situations inside the safe medium of a story, and her parents can be certain the story tells her the right things. In these pages, a couple of abandoned animals find their way to Anne, whose heart is as big as the world. Sometimes things are hard, but this adoptive family learns to stick together, and their love truly saves the day. (And best of all, my son loves this story.)

The Complete Wizard of Oz Collection (With Active Table of Contents)
Price: 95 cents
How anyone could possibly complain about getting the original “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” and the succeding 13 sequels with one click for 95 cents is beyond me. My 10 year old read a paperback copy of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” as part of an over-the-summer reading assignment prior to entering the 5th grade. He enjoyed it very much, as I did a long time ago> When I told him that there were 2 or 3 sequels, he was surprised (“Why didn’t they make them into movies too, Dad?”) and asked for them. When I looked them up on Amazon *I* was surprised to find out that there were 13 of them and that I could get them all for my Kindle for $0.95. Click and I had them, and Jacob has read the first 3 or 4, and now I have to fight him for my Kindle. A better buy you will never make.
