Horse and Hen Count to Ten. A Learn with Horse and Hen Book
Price: FREE
I found myself smiling as I read this. The horse and hen take you all around the farm to count the different animals. While the pictures are absolutely simple and the items to be counted are identical to each other, I found the scenes to be humorous and frolicky. What I truly enjoyed is that after the horse and hen count to ten, they then ask the reader to count on his/her own by asking “How Many….”.

A Wrinkle in Time (Madeleine L’Engle’s Time Quintet)
Price: $3.49
Wrinkle in Time has a lot of fertile subjects for discussions between parents and children about good, evil, how we treat each other, and the choices we make. Ms. L’Engel often uses moral themes in her books and this one contains excellent subjects for discussions about kindness, good, evil, God, and being different, and about the destructiveness of gossip.
“Wild nights are my glory,” the unearthly stranger told them. “I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me sit down for a moment, and then I’ll be on my way. Speaking of ways, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract.”
A tesseract (in case the reader doesn’t know) is a wrinkle in time. To tell more would rob the reader of the enjoyment of Miss L’Engle’s unusual book. A Wrinkle in Time, winner of the Newbery Medal in 1963, is the story of the adventures in space and time of Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O’Keefe (athlete, student, and one of the most popular boys in high school). They are in search of Meg’s father, a scientist who disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government on the tesseract problem.
A Wrinkle in Time is the winner of the 1963 Newbery Medal.

Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
Price: $1.99
They say this story is for ages 4 and up, but don’t let that keep you from buying it for yourself. As an English major and lover of anything book related, I jumped at the chance to own a copy of this. It’s a beautiful story about loving books and how they love you back, as well as the tale of a man’s journey to write his own story. I’m thinking about buying a copy for a friend of mine (a fellow English major and soon to be teacher) who just graduated college, as well as a copy for my best friend’s young son because the story can be enjoyed by both of them!
Morris Lessmore loved words.
He loved stories.
He loved books.
But every story has its upsets.
Everything in Morris Lessmore’s life, including his own story, is scattered to the winds.
But the power of story will save the day.
Stunningly brought to life by William Joyce, one of the preeminent creators in children’s literature, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is a modern masterpiece, showing that in today’s world of traditional books, eBooks, and apps, it’s story that we truly celebrate—and this story, no matter how you tell it, begs to be read—and listened to—again and again.
