Mary Jane Hathaway

Price: FREE

Romance, friendship, deep family connections, great literature, history, humor, love, grief, joy, faith…this book has it all! It’s a wonderfully weaved story and it kept me turning the pages to find out how it would evolve. I wasn’t disappointed! The story is believable, the characters are real, likable, and have many dimensions. I highly recommend this book for someone who is looking for an uplifting story that will make them feel good through and through!

Lilianna M. Schmidt

Shelby Roswell is a history professor on the fast track to tenure until her new book is crushed in a review by the famous historian, Ransom Fielding. She struggles to regain her momentum only to discover that Fielding has taken a visiting professorship at her college. The place that was once a refuge from the poverty of her past is now a battlefield of Civil War proportions.
Ransom is still struggling with his role in his wife’s accidental death six years ago and was hoping a year at Shelby’s small college would be a respite from the reminders back home. He never bargained for falling in love with the one woman who would give anything to make him leave. Together Shelby and Ransom learn that home is never very far away, and when you least expect it, love arrives.
With a cast of Civil War re-enactors, an evil wedding planner, antebellum mansions, and several mysterious diaries, ‘Pride, Prejudice and Cheese Grits’ will take you on a touching and hilarious ride through a modern South you haven’t seen before.

If the Shoe Fits: A Contemporary Fairy Tale

Sandra D. Bricker

Price: FREE

Each of Sandra Bricker’s romance books that I have read have a couple things in common, humor and a Christian basis. As far as I am concerned, IF THE SHOE FITS does not disappoint on either point. There is not so much ‘religion’ as to be preachy and the humor seems to flow effortlessly. The book is a modern day fairy tale based on the classic story of Cinderella searching for her Prince Charming. This story takes a winding path to reach the happily ever after most girls are looking for. There, of course, is an antagonist for Julianne, the young lawyer at the center of the story. All the characters are well developed and you feel they are neighbors you have known and who live in your neighborhood.
Mostly I laughed through the book. But one thing did bring tears to my eyes. Julianne and her mom had a great relationship, easy interaction and lots of love. I found myself really missing my mom who passed away a few years ago. How is that for reality in a book?

Julianne used to believe in fairy tales; she’s been watching for Prince
Charming to come charging in on his white steed ever since the day her mother read
her Cinderella for the first time. But she’s never come close to finding
the perfect man-instead she’s always tripping over her childhood best friend, Will.
And who finds their Prince Charming on a 10-speed bicycle on the other
side of the cul de sac? Well… Julianne does. Only she doesn’t have a clue.

She and Will are attorneys now, and they’ve joined up in private practice in a beautiful
Cincinnati office building that overlooks the Ohio River. And then one day Julianne
is on her way to court, and runs right smack dab into Prince Charming. But when
she looks again, all she finds is a metaphoric sign she is certain came straight
from Heaven: The Prince’s toolbox has fallen off the back of his truck, and a work
boot along with it. What better way for God to grab the attention of a Cinderella-in-training than to show her a glass slipper…errrr, work boot?…waiting to be reunited
with its owner?

So she sets out to track down the mysterious Prince Charming.

He’s the most gorgeous guy she’s ever seen…and a caring animal rescuer, too. Surely he must be the soul mate God has prepared her for.

But, Julianne’s prince is starting to look less and less charming all the time. No matter how
she tries to romanticize him, he just keeps tumbling down off that dumb pedestal.
And with the Bar Association dinner coming up that will honor her for her outstanding
charity work over the year, Julianne wants so much for her friends and colleagues
to see her with someone besides her best friend Will. To make matters worse, Prince
Charming has no designs on wearing a penguin suit and attending a stuffy old dinner.

With her pride pressing in on her like sticks from a cactus, Julianne sinks to the
bottom of the proverbial barrel and actually offers to pay Paul to be her date.

Julianne is on a collision course with God’s perfect plan for her life…if only she could
open her eyes and see it before it’s too late.

Claim: A Novel of Colorado (The Homeward Trilogy)

Lisa T. Bergren

Price: FREE

I have to say this was a great book. It had a great story line, characters that drew you into the story, and some Colorado history thrown in. As a native Coloradoan, I have visited St. Elmo many times and have hiked around the Buena Vista, Gunnison, St. Elmo areas. What I loved about this book was it gave a glimpse of history in the area and what it might have been like during the Boom Days…particularly St. Elmo.

Sent west by their father to make a new life, the St. Clair siblings have done so—but hardly as he’d wished. Beautiful, headstrong Moira, after pursuing a career on the Paris stage, has returned to Colorado Springs—older, wiser, and certainly much poorer—to see if there’s anything left of a relationship she’d left behind. Older sister Odessa and her husband, Bryce, are struggling to rebuild their ranch after a devastating winter. And then Nic, the prodigal son, turns up—broken, haunted, and sick about leaving his sisters.

At last the family is reunited. But Dominic is still at loose ends, seeking a peace that has always eluded him. Only as he mines an old claim deep in the Rocky Mountains and begins a romance with a local schoolteacher does he begin to understand how passionately he is loved—by God, his family, and a good woman. But even as he relinquishes his fury, Nic discovers there is one last battle to fight…

Love Finds You in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

Pamela S. Meyers

Price: $1.99

I usually don’t read romances, unless they are historical. And I’m so glad I read this one. It is set in 1933 in the resort town of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Meg Alden, a native of the city by the lake, has her heart set on being a newspaper reporter, but it is 1933 and most newspaper editors see a woman’s job as writing for the society page.

Tammie Edington Shaw

It’s 1933, the height of the Big-Band era, and beautiful Lake Geneva is already well established as a summertime playground for Chicago’s elite. Local girl Meg Alden works at the town newspaper, but she aspires to be a reporter—a job given only to men. When a position opens up, Meg spies an opportunity to break into the business. That is, until Jack Wallace, the son of a big-city newspaper magnate, is hired instead. Jack is drawn to Meg and suggests they combine forces to uncover a local scandal. But how can Meg work with the man who stole her job… and makes her pulse race?

Rain Dance

Joy Dekok

Price: 99 cents

Throughout my reading of Rain Dance I realized the developing friendship of two women with very different situations, Jonica (infertile) and Stacey (post-abortive). I was touched by the compassion that Jonica showed Stacey and the love that was unconditionally given and embraced by Stacey. It changed her life. Stacey realized the forgiveness of God and eventually she herself was healed through God’s grace. God is faithful!
I also was invited into the critical thoughts Jonica experienced, day by day, that included God’s Truth – the Bible. I wasn’t sure how the novel would unfold but I was touched more than once to a realization of God’s comfort to Jonica and how she lived her life and faith.
This novel was intended to promote healing and understanding for women, whether infertile or post-abortive, and us as a society that should love and accept women and men that these epxeriences relate to or are on the outside looking in, to be made aware of the compassion needed, just as Jesus Himself would have shown to them.
I am a born-again Christian and I would have no second thoughts about whom I suggest this book to. It’s tender, moving, thought provoking and a tool to be used for healing and learning about God’s love.

Jean Keefe

What happens when a Christian woman facing a childless future and a woman seeking an abortion are waiting to see the same doctor?
What if after that “chance” encounter they are unable to forget each other?

What if they find themselves drawn together in spite of their drastic differences by their surprising similarities?

What if they somehow find the courage to become friends?

Rain Dance takes the reader into the hearts of these two women as they journey closer to the heart of the One who offers hope and healing.
