Like most books on parenting, this one is filled with moments that are at the same time obvious and profound. You will encounter statements that are so obvious you wonder if they really needed to be said, only to realize that you could have used that bit of wisdom only moments ago. While muttering, “Well, duh!” you’ll also feel twinges of shame and regret. This is a book that is immediately applicable both to parents and to their children. It is a book that turns to the Bible to provide God’s wisdom on how we can be effective parents. “Your greatest need,” says Tripp, “is to understand deep truths from the Bible. Solid parenting skills are built on solid truth.”
This is not a book that tells you how to control or manipulate your children so that they will spend their lives living in an irrational fear of a domineering parent or a hostile deity. Instead, it is a book that teaches parents to gently but consistently build into children a worldview that begins with the heart and that focuses on God and on His glory. “We should impress truth of the hearts of our children, not to control or manage them, but to point them to the greatest joy and happiness that they can experience–delighting in God and the goodness of his ways.”
We’ve waited a long time for the follow-up to Shepherding a Child’s Heart. I believe most parents will feel the wait has been well worth it.

Unglued: Making Wise Choices in the Midst of Raw Emotions
Price: $3.79
If you’ve ever felt unimpressed or defeated when those Christmas letters come piling in, informing you that Johnny got straight A’s, and Suzie just got a full scholarship, and ‘that’ family has a well oiled ship running over in their neck of the woods…then you might just love this book! Lysa doesn’t put on a facade that she’s got this thing called ‘life’ all tied up with a nice little bow. She bravely uncovers her current struggles and has you laughing at the crazy that goes on in each of our households, she just dares to say it out loud! Refreshing! Who wouldn’t want a ‘real’ friend like that telling you like it is? A ‘what you see is what you get’ kind of girl, but with some solid answers straight from the giver of life Himself. She has an engaging way of inviting you to be more authentic as you share your life with those in your circle. The more transparent we are with others, the more magnetic we become. She says, “What happens in between the smiling snapshots of life isn’t all pretty. I’m willing to admit that. And I love my friends who are brave enough to admit the messy stuff as well.” I’m grateful that I had received an advanced copy of part of this book to review, and I chuckle at the things we all tend to come unglued over(the basic dog throw up, towels, broken computers…the list goes on.) Run out and grab a copy, help is on the way!

Simply Homeschool: Having Less Clutter and More Joy in Your Homeschool
Price: 99 cents
I have read many homeschooling and inspirational books over the last two years. Some can be information overload. This book is so much different and is both homeschool related and inspirational combined. It speaks to the heart-the why more so than the how. It will lift your spirits and draw you closer to the One who called you to do this. And that you are not alone on this journey!
It has been an amazing journey for me and I can’t wait to encourage you all with what I have learned along the way!
With Matthew 6:33 as the basis, this eBook will focus on:
Getting rid of physical clutter and organization tips
Getting rid of mental clutter
Curriculum choices
Schedules
Meal planning
Letting God lead your homeschool
Avoiding the comparison trap, and letting your homeschool be YOUR homeschool
Not letting homeschool become an idol-Keeping GOD first
It is my desire to encourage others out there to live more simply in all areas of our lives, and this eBook focuses specifically on simplifying homeschooling.
When we keep God first in our homeschools, we can have the true JOY that is meant for our families.
Excerpt from “Simply Homeschool:Having Less Clutter and More Joy in Your Homeschool”
“I would rather be with my children sitting at
Jesus’ feet, than running around trying to be busy.
God has called us to raise our children and raise them up according
to His Will. We can’t forget that.
I truly believe that if we put the Lord first in all we do in our homeschools, He will
bless us. We may worry that we are not doing things just right, or that our kids
aren’t learning enough. If my children know the Lord first and foremost, I have
done my job.”
