Surprise in the Kitchen (A Mia Book)
Price: FREE
This is Mary Lee’s third book in her Mia Children Book series. It is just as brilliant as the previous two books. Even as an adult I was eager to find out how Mia’s kitchen adventure would end. I tested the previous two books on my grandchildren and they loved them. I am now looking forward to surprise them with another Mia story.

Horses: Amazing Photos & Fun Facts on Animals in Nature (Our Amazing World Series)
Price: FREE
Got this for the kids and I wound up learning as much about horses as they did. Nice illustrations also.
This series is known as one of the most beautiful on the kindle. The pictures look great even in black and white and are excellent on the full color kindle. The description in the large text beneath is simple enough for early readers or for a parent to guide a child through.
There are also picture captions that provide more information to talk about with your child. Alternatively, a child of any age (even the child in you) can just look at the images and appreciate its beauty.
This book depicts the wonder of the world of Horses. Children are given a well-rounded understanding of this magnificent mammal: its anatomy, social habits, behavior and relationship with man. The following horses are featured:
- The swift Arabian Horse
- The gentle Draft Horse
- The graceful Feral Horse
- The strong Norwegian Fjord Horse
- The cheeky Shetland Pony
- The spirited Thoroughbred Horse
- The endangered Wild Horse
I enjoyed compiling this book. I even learned a few things along the way. Perhaps you will too.

Mind Hurdles: Having Fun with States & Capitals in the United States (Interactive Quiz Book)
Price: FREE
I love the interactive capability of this book. It is a great learning tool. My grandson has already begun to learn about states and their capitals. I sure wish I had had this device when I was learning states and capitals. (Of course that was before computers and ebooks!)
What does interactive mean? While it is multiple-choice, it is vastly improved over the typical multiple-choice format. When a wrong answer is given, the game keeps prompting your child back to the question until the right answer is chosen. The game also congratulates your child when the correct answer is selected.
Imagine your child being the first and possibly the only one in the class who already knows the states and their capitals? A panel of life-long educators designed this fun to read and fast-paced states and capitals game book. As with all the Mind Hurdles books, its contents are overseen by the Mind Hurdles Advisory Board.
As parents, we have all had the experience of trying to keep our kids occupied during doctor’s appointments, standing in grocery store lines, flying in a plane, or riding cross-country in a car. Like most responsible parents, you probably cringe at the idea of giving your child fluff to read. You can feel confident that this states and capitals quiz book is a 50 states game that will not only merely entertain and occupy your child, but it will also improve his or her mind at the same time.
NOTE: To ensure that your little one has the best experience, please use the INSTRUCTIONS (as this is a Kindle game and not a regular Kindle book, follow the blue links after the game starts ~ please DO NOT use the page back and forth arrows).

Miss Brain’s Cool Math Games for Kids in Grades 1-2
Price: FREE
We are a homeschooling family, and have been using Miss Brain to supplement our math studies. I can’t say enough good things about it. The subject material and difficulty level is spot on for the grade level. I love how she gives suggestions to make the games harder or easier. I love that my son doesn’t even realize that he is practicing his math skills, because the games are so engaging. Even my younger son, 4, wants to get in on playing the games. Well worth the small investment!
These kids’ card games, dice games, and other fun games are specially selected to help kids learn the math skills first and second graders need most:
number sense, counting, place value, addition, subtraction, money, fractions and multiplication.
It works like this. When your child is struggling with math, needs a little more practice, or is just feeling bored, turn to the math area you’d like to work on. Pick a game that sounds like fun. Grab a deck of cards or other simple materials, and invite your child to play for 15 minutes.
That’s it! You get a quick and easy way to make a huge difference in your child’s math abilities. Your child gets better at math, becomes more confident, and wants to learn – and play – even more.
Miss Brain’s Cool Math Games are best played in pairs or small groups. Materials and game rules have been kept intentionally simple. The games can be used to help kids understand tricky concepts, practice math facts and skills, or to motivate kids who are bored or frustrated with math. Many games have “easy” or “challenging” versions of play, and are appropriate for players of mixed levels.
Also includes reproducibles, practical tips for helping kids understand math concepts, and a picture glossary of math terms.

Pirates of Rocky Crag Bay and Other Stories

This book contains many interesting stories. One of my favorite stories is about a boy who runs away and joins a band of pirates. The pirates want the boy to rob his own family. Will he do it? You’ll have to read the book to find out!
