Texas Roads (A Miller’s Creek Novel)

Cathy Bryant

Price: FREE

I LOVED this story! Cathy’s writing is vibrant and fresh. It’s loaded with very likeable characters and zippy dialog. I enjoyed getting to know Dani. What an honest woman she was. Steve was a great hero who would do whatever he could to protect those he loves. Aunt Beth is a gem. What a wise woman of God. The secondary characters were very well drawn and I felt like I wanted to move to Miller Creek myself. This was Cathy Bryant’s first novel but her writing is that of a seasoned author. She kept me turning pages from start to finish. You could tell this author was writing from the heart. I love the spiritual message of this story. We can all relate to finding a place to call home. I’m looking forward with great anticipation to future works by Cathy Bryant. I highly recommend this book.

With quirky residents, quaint country charm, and loads of business potential, Miller’s Creek Texas seems like the perfect place to start over . . . except for the cowboy who gives her a ride into town. Dani secretly finances renovations to downtown Miller’s Creek, but malicious rumors force her to choose between keeping her involvement a secret and the home for which she’s always longed. Then a devastating discovery propels her down a road she never expected to travel.

Steve Miller is determined to rescue his dying hometown. When vandals jeopardize the renovation, he can’t help but suspect Dani, whose strange behavior has become fodder for local gossips. I did not think you could top the last book. The creativity and heart that all the ” Charlee” books have had, I could not believe that she did it again. I love this series a lot, they make me feel like I’m a part of the story, you really can’t put them down. This book (book 3) was the perfect addition to the trilogy. And if you love creative writing, with a deep story line, and in depth characters who make you Laugh; cry, and then laugh again all I can say is…. Read this book, read all the books, they are absolutely wonderful.

Kathy Benson

The irrepressible Charlee runs off to Las Vegas to marry the handsome Scottish horse breeder, Ian. They return to Ian’s Appaloosa ranch in the forested mountains near Pineville, Montana, and begin life together, but it’s not the uninterrupted bliss Charlee had imagined. As Ian is occupied with his beloved horses, Charlee struggles to integrate herself into his world, but things get complicated when she encounters a disgruntled ghost haunting the house. Claiming to be Ian’s father, Daniel the ghost may be only her imagination, but he leads her to questions about Ian’s life and the death of his first wife. When Charlee discovers a hidden box of counterfeit money, she’s drawn into a web of intrigue that stretches far beyond the little ranch. Whatever the answers, Charlee isn’t going to let things like forest fires and accidents derail her from finding out the truth, and she’s not going to tell Ian until she knows for sure. Calamities may test the bulwark of their marriage, but it’s what Ian doesn’t know about Marybeth’s death that threatens to destroy everything.
This book, If Summer Ends, is the third in the series, The Art of Being Charlee, which chronicles the adventures of an irrepressible, forty-something art teacher and the handsome Scottish horse breeder who falls in love with her. The books combine humor, mystery and clean romance, with witty dialogue and engaging characters. Charlee’s impetuous spirit, curiosity, and penchant for snooping get her into plenty of trouble, tap her inner strength and awaken love after life-changing loss.

Red Velvet (Friends for a Season, Book 2)

Sandra Byrd

Price: FREE

This is a good, but bittersweet, young adult story dealing with losing those you love, and showing love to those you might lose–everyone. While I was thrown by a different version of the Bible than I use, when scripture was quoted, I felt it was aptly used in the telling.

Armchair Interviews says: Red Velvet would be enjoyed by young teen girls, and should help those faced with an ill family member.

Armchair Interviews

Quinn Miller and her family are heading to Seattle for a six-week stay at Anderson House—a home away from home for cancer patients and their families—while her mother undergoes treatment. Once there, Quinn meets Annie, whose mother is also going through treatment. Glad to find a friend on “Planet Cancer,” each girl discovers that she has something special to share with the other. When Quinn reads her mother’s teen-years diary, she comes across a list of things her mom has wanted to do before she dies. But an item not on the list becomes more even important to Quinn—a red velvet dress her mother has wanted since childhood. Quinn wants to help her mom accomplish all these things, but will doing so be like giving her mother permission to die?

A Time To Love: Quilts of Lancaster County Series #1

Barbara Cameron

Price: FREE

I fell in love with this story because it is not like any other Amish story that I have read. I love the unusual “twist” that Barbara Cameron incorporated into this book. Barbara’s writing style is wonderful and all the characters become alive within the book.

I am very anxious to read the second book in this series, A Time to Heal, which is scheduled to be released in March 2011. There was a bonus chapter from the second book at the end of this one but I must admit, I did not read it. I enjoyed the book so much that I know that it would leave me wanting more right away!

Diane M. Ulitsch

War correspondent Jennie King thinks she’s just a temporary guest in her grandmother’s Amish community while she recuperates from the devastating injuries sustained in a car bomb attack that changed her world. But when she meets Matthew Bontrager, the man she had a crush on as a teenager, she wonders if God has a new plan for her.

Always the Baker, Never the Bride: An Emma Rae Creation

Sandra D. Bricker

Price: FREE

In a word, Scrumptious! Sandra Bricker’s latest release had me laughing out loud, craving crème brule, and aching for the hero and heroine as their faltering hearts brought them two steps forward and one maddening step away from each other. Always the Baker, Never the Bride is a story that will delight from first bite until the last delicious morsel. This contemporary romance left me cracking up with every chapter and growling when I had to put it down. I love the way the plot wove in unconventional patterns, and the rich complexity of characters had them jumping off the page. A second helping, please!

Jason H. Hendrickson

They say you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

But who would want a cake they couldn’t eat?

Just ask Emma Rae Travis about that. A baker of confections who is diabetic and can’t enjoy them. When Emma meets Jackson Drake, the escapee from Corporate America who is starting a wedding destination hotel to fulfill a dream that belonged to someone else, this twosome and their crazy family ties bring new meaning to the term “family circus.” The Atlanta social scene will never be the same!
