Reinventing Rachel: A Novel

Reinventing Rachel: A Novel

Alison Strobel

One of the things that I love about Alison Strobel’s writing is that every story is very different, every character unique. Reinventing Rachel really deals with some tough issues like judgmental attitudes, addiction, losing faith, and depression. Although these issues are heavy, the book never felt depressing. At the same time, I found the story to be very honest and authentic. I was easily pulled into the story and I LOVED the ending.

God let Rachel Westing down. For twenty-six years she’s done everything by the book; she figures He should have her back. But then she learns her fiancĂ© is cheating on her. Her parents are getting a divorce. And her Christian mentor has a pill addiction. Where is God in all this? Nowhere, as far as Rachel can see. Wounded, bitter, and with a shattered faith, she quits her job and moves across the country to live with Daphne – her childhood best friend whose soul Rachel once thought she was meant to save.

Confident, successful, fun-loving Daphne sets about helping Rachel reinvent herself, and for a while it’s exciting. But when another tragedy shakes Rachel to the core, what little bit of self-possession she has left begins to unravel. A true-to-life story that will draw you in and keep you biting your nails until the end.

Widow of Larkspur Inn, The (The Gresham Chronicles Book #1)

I highly recommend this book, and the others in this series. It deals with many issues facing Christians in a lighthearted manner, but that doesn’t at all mean that it’s fluffy. I could not put this book down. Julia Hollis, the main character, moves to the small town of Gresham after the death of her husband and other devastating events. Readers will sympathize as this city girl learns about country living along with her three children. The author achieves a wonderful story with memorable, realistic characters. You don’t want to miss this book!

Arms of Deliverance: A Story of Promise

Arms of Deliverance: A Story of Promise

Tricia N Goyer

Price: $1.99

Currently in one of my courses, we are studying about WWII and the Nazis. This book helped me get a better outlook on their thinking and way of life. I’m really glad I read it and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of Tricia’s books. I would recommend this for anyone who likes historical fiction.

Deborah

Arms of Deliverance is the fourth and final chapter in the thrilling World War II series. Mary and Lee have gone from best friends to competing WWII journalists, but a bombing raid gone wrong puts Mary’s life at risk and sends Lee on a heroic rescue attempt through the fierce teeth of combat. Then, amidst an adventurous struggle for freedom, they uncover the story of the unspeakable Lebensborn atrocity.

With equal doses of adrenaline and poignancy, Tricia Goyer’s storytelling brings well-crafted characters to life in a graphically authentic World War II setting. She places readers not only behind enemy lines into the heat of battle, but also deep into the innermost sanctuary of the human heart.

Dawn of a Thousand Nights: A Story of Honor

Dawn of a Thousand Nights: A Story of Honor

Tricia N Goyer

Price: $1.99

This book was my jumping-off place to learn more about the war in the Pacific and the Bataan Death March. If you love WWII historical novels, you won’t be able to put this book down! It has stayed with me since May 2004! Don’t miss this! I’m so glad I didn’t.

Joy Easton

For fans of scrupulously researched historical fiction, Tricia Goyer releases Dawn of a Thousand Nights. Following on the heels of Goyer-s From Dust and Ashes and Night Song, readers journey with Dan Fletcher and Libby Conner, both U.S. pilots fighting in WWII-s Pacific Theater. Fletcher is captured by the Japanese and is forced to endure the horror of the Bataan Death March in the Philippines. It is here that he encounters Natsu Hidiki, a guard whose nagging conscience won-t let him ignore the human degradation in which he is participating. Libby Conner is a WASP (Women-s Air Force Service Pilot), who ferries military planes between Hawaii and the South Pacific. By the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor, she has turned the head of Fletcher in no small way. Readers will be captivated by this tale of dignity and honor triumphing in the midst of a very dark time in history.
