Thai cuisine is one of the most popular and trendy ethnic foods because of its unique flavor profiles and powerful ingredients. Balancing sour, sweet, salty, and bitter flavors creates a meal that is complex in flavor while satisfying everyone’s needs. Thai cuisine has gained popularity quickly in part because it is meant to be enjoyed in a group, making it a fun experience that evokes a festive atmosphere. Weight Loss Smoothies: The Beginner's Guide to Losing Weight with Smoothies (Every Day Recipes)

Weight Loss Smoothies: The Beginner’s Guide to Losing Weight with Smoothies (Every Day Recipes)

Ranae Richoux

Weight loss smoothies is a great book for beginners . I love smoothies and all of these are a great way to get more fruits and veges into your diet. I would have liked to see calorie counts for these recipes because it is very easy to drink too many calories with the fruit.

Elaine T Demers

Right now, 1 in every 3 adults living in America is overweight. And the number of children with obesity has more than doubled since 2000, while showing no signs of slowing down. Obesity is affecting everyone, and it’s causing people to live restricted lives of no energy, strength, or movement in their bodies. Weight related diseases like Type 2 Diabetes that used to only affect older people, are now being diagnosed in people as young as 16 years old.

There have been hundreds of diets and weight loss plans introduced over the last several decades that have hoped to stop this ever-growing problem with our health. Sadly, the vast majority of these plans have been either too expensive, too ineffective, or honestly just too hard to do in this busy, modern world. And there are a few plans that offer inexpensive, effective, and easy ways to lose weight fast! Unfortunately these plans typically are even unhealthier than just being overweight is. Usually, these “revolutionary new weight loss plans” are designed to either starve the body of valuable nutrients and healthy fats, or fill the body with dangerous chemicals, additives, and toxins.

Welcome to the solution. These smoothie recipes are the answer for those of us who need a way to lose weight that is healthy and nutritious, but also want a way to get healthy and fit that is affordable and easy to do on with a busy schedule. The only thing you really need in order to partake in all the benefits of weight loss smoothies is a blender. Pretty much any blender will suffice to make these surprisingly simple recipes. Many of the ingredients that you will need are things that you already might have in your refrigerator, but rarely have the time to use in other recipes. And if you don’t have many of these ingredients, don’t worry. You can find all of it in your average grocery store. Although, if you want to experience the freshest, best-tasting, and in many cases, least expensive versions of these smoothies, then try to find all of your produce such as fruits and vegetables at your local farmer’s market.

And what to do once you have all these fresh ingredients and are ready to start losing weight? Look to Every Day Weight Loss Smoothie Recipes for the answer! The recipes in here are filled with a variety of ingredients that will have you combing back for more every time.

This Is Your Captain Speaking: My Fantastic Voyage Through Hollywood, Faith & Life

Gavin MacLeod

All the stories are here that you might expect from a Gavin MacLeod memoir. More than that though, I was struck by his joy for living and his ability to see the good in any situation. He obviously loves life, loves others and loves his faith. A fascinating read. The world could use more Gavins!

Dwayne Barlow

The remarkable life, career, and faith journey of the star of The Love Boat and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

For 16 years, millions of Americans welcomed Gavin MacLeod into their living rooms every Saturday night. This veteran of stage and screen transformed himself from a seasoned character actor into the leading, lovable father-figure of The Love Boat at the height of TV’s boom years.

For more than 30 years, Gavin MacLeod has served as the global ambassador for Princess Cruises. Speaking to thousands of travelers each year, and signing hundreds of autographs at every port, he stands poised to celebrate his amazing journey with a look back at the golden era of American television.

The consummate storyteller, Gavin shares his fondest memories of meeting and working with countless stars, such as Cary Grant, Steve McQueen, Gregory Peck, Bette Davis, Frank Sinatra, Ethel Merman, Ella Fitzgerald, Ronald Reagan, Milton Berle, and Fred Astaire.

From his humble theatrical beginnings in upstate New York, to Radio City Music Hall and on to Hollywood, Gavin MacLeod was on the fast track to success. However, a few hard life lessons—like dealing with a divorce—taught Gavin that the key to happiness was only through a deep faith in God, and he feels his work for Christ is more important than any award. Three years later his remarriage proved that a great struggle can culminate in a happy ending.

And Then I Had Kids: Encouragement for Mothers of Young Children

Susan Alexander Yates

Whether you’re a stay at home mom or a mom who works outside the home, you will see yourself in this book. Right away in chapter two I practically said out loud “Hey, that’s _me_ she’s writing about!” Then Susan offers practical advice, encouragement, and best of all — empathy! This book would make a great gift for someone who has kids ages 7 and under! Susan is also sensitive and doesn’t make any judgments about moms who choose to stay home and moms who choose to have a career while their kids are little. How refreshing!!

A Customer

Susan Alexander Yates is an author who has truly “been there.” When her twin daughters were born, they joined siblings ages two, four, and seven. Through the challenges of raising those five young children, Susan realized the need for an honest, practical book that helps parents through that time of life.
This new edition of the best-selling And Then I Had Kids contains guidance for dealing with common struggles such as discipline, priorities, and fatigue. Susan is honest about the frustrations of parenting, yet encourages parents through her own experiences. She offers a biblical perspective on family life, inspiring mothers (and fathers!) to create a loving atmosphere, find good role models, and shape a Christian home.

Speaking of Jesus: The Art of Not-Evangelism

Speaking of Jesus: The Art of Not-Evangelism

Carl Medearis

So good, so challenging. Carl did such a fantastic job of showing what it looks like to follow Jesus. I pray that more of us simply become people trying to follow Jesus.

Mandy

Some of us fear moments when we need to defend our theology. Some of us seek them out. But we are seldom ready the way Jesus seemed to be ready. So how do we draw others to God in the midst of these ordinary conversations the way Jesus did?

In Speaking of Jesus, Carl Medearis draws on his experience of international reconciliation between Muslims and Christians to remind us of the heart of the matter: Jesus. Here he gives us tools, stories, and the foundation we need to move beyond “us” and “them” and simply talk about the One who changes it all.

As Carl writes, “While others are explaining and defending various isms and ologies we’re simply pointing people to our friend. The one who uncovers and disarms. Who leads people right to himself. The beginning and the end of the story. A good story indeed.”

Shadows of the Past (Logan Point Book #1): A Novel

Patricia Bradley

As a huge fan of romantic suspense, I’m delighted to have discovered a new author! Though Shadows of the Past is Patricia Bradley’s debut novel, I was hard pressed to believe it! The suspense was awesome, and the crimes (yes, plural!) were extremely well-developed. I had a hint of who was behind the main crime about midway through, but I was never completely certain until the end. It was fascinating to see how the different cases related.

i blog 4 books

Psychology professor and criminal profiler Taylor Martin prides herself on being able to solve any crime, except the one she wants most desperately to solve–the disappearance of her father twenty years ago. When she finally has a lead on his whereabouts, Taylor returns home to Logan Point, Mississippi, to investigate. But as she is stalking the truth about the past, someone is stalking her.

Chautona Havig

Mrs.Havig has written an excellent book that captures the fun and chaos of large family life and weaves nuggets of parenting wisdom throughout. If you want a chance to sit and enjoy an entertaining novel, then grab this book. Don’t be surprised if you look at the world a little differently when you are done, because this is way more than “just” a novel.

BethanyB

Fresh out of college, Aggie Milliken thinks she’s prepared for anything life can throw her way. Think again, Aggie!

After the abrupt loss of her sister and brother-in-law, Aggie is stunned to find herself the sole guardian of their eight lively children. If learning basic parenting skills wasn’t complicated enough, she must also battle the children’s half-crazed grandmother, survive a massive remodeling project, and navigate the waters of new friendships-alone.

She has little experience with children and none with housekeeping, and it shows. What she has going for her is grit, a double dose of determination, and the confidence that this is exactly where the Lord wants her to be. With an unlimited P-mail account and enough hymns to keep her spirits bolstered, she tackles one catastrophe after another.

It seems like nothing Aggie does is right, but ready or not, here she comes!

C.S. Lewis: A Life Inspired

C.S. Lewis: A Life Inspired

Christopher Gordon

This is a wonderful view of the man who wrote so many wonderful books. One line that struck me as a reminder for all is when Lewis “gave in, admitted that God is God, and knelt to pray.” Well done book.

Amazon Customer

A man of reason and vigorous discourse, and a renowned professor of literature and philosophy, C.S. Lewis, always “Jack” to family and friends, never shied from intellectual debate, and through his written works encouraged others to wrestle with the difficult questions of faith.

A master of visual illustration and allegory, Lewis wrote with the intuitive understanding that his readers wrestled with the same questions about the Christian story, about pain, suffering, and notions of Heaven and Hell, as he himself had wrestled. He also understood that others found reason and imagination to be incompatible aspects of an understanding of God and the universe.

It’s time for you to become your own hairstylist and learn how to do braids. It’s fun, and you will not get bored because are there are many different kinds of braids that you can try. Worship Through the Ages

Vernon M. Whaley

I love it. As the title says, this book helps the worshipers worshiping the true God with truth and please God. I highly recommend this book for everyone who wants to worship God.

JACOB N. VO

Through the Ages provides a practical, historical and philosophical study of the Great Spiritual Awakenings as related to the worship of evangelicals around the globe. This is a fascinating story that reveals a unifying, unbroken thread of events whereby one can trace the development of worship practices through the ages. With each move of God came a change in the way people worshiped. New paradigms were created, debated, accepted and passed on to the next generation. Narrative for this study is energized by telling “the story” of engaging personalities, influencers and movers and shakers. Emphasis is given to changes in worship practices from the Early Church, Reformation, the Great Awakenings, revival movements, large evangelistic crusades of the 1940s and 1950s, Jesus Movement, and the Praise and Worship movement. A chart tracing the development of worship from Genesis 4 to the twenty-first century is included.

In God's Underground

In God’s Underground

Richard Wurmbrand

This book touched me and changed my whole view of the term ‘martyr’. I have since become a great fan of Wurmbrand, his books never fail to stun one into a deep, reverential silence.

“beggarbooks”

Imprisoned by the Romanian Communists for his work in the Christian Underground, and subjected to medieval torture, Wurmbrand kept his faith—and strengthened it. For fourteen years, he shared that faith with suffering cellmates and gave them solace. In solitary confinement, he tapped out his message of hope and Christian love. In Room Four, the “death room”, he helped dying patients even though his lungs were riddled with tuberculosis and his body lacerated and bloody from whips and kicks. Anguished over the fate of his wife and son, he could still tell jokes and stories to make despairing prisoners laugh. Sorely tempted by the promise of release and reprieve, he refused to become a Communist collaborator.

And the miracle is that he survived.

With humble gratitude to God and Christ, he tells his personal story. It’s an inspiring drama of triumphant faith.

Great for kids studying the Middle Ages, geography, or just looking for an interesting book. I love how Marco described things he never had seen before such as tigers being lions with stripes. A true delight.

Mayflower Girl

Many people say Marco Polo was the greatest explorer that ever lived, traveling 33, miles by land and sea from Venice, Italy, to modern-day Beijing, China. His famous book, The Travels of Marco Polo, indicates that he was a man of extraordinary bravery, brilliance, and strength. With his uncle and father, he traveled across Turkey, Armenia, the Middle East, the rugged mountains of Afghanistan, and the hot Taklimakan Desert before finally reaching China in 1275. Welcomed by the great emperor Kublai Khan, Marco Polo was amazed by the inventions, riches, and religious tolerance of the great Khan’s kingdom, where Marco remained for the next 2 years.

The Complete Emily Starr Trilogy: Emily of New Moon, Emily Climbs, Emily's Quest: Unabridged

The Complete Emily Starr Trilogy: Emily of New Moon, Emily Climbs, Emily’s Quest: Unabridged

Lucy Maud Montgomery

This was a favorite as a child and it does not disappoint now. Great value and formatting was good for Kindle.

Paddington

This carefully crafted ebook: “The Complete Emily Starr Trilogy: Emily of New Moon + Emily Climbs + Emily’s Quest (Unabridged)” is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents.

The author, Lucy Maud Montgomery, created another and better-known representative of Canadian girlhood in “Anne of Green Gables” and all the subsequent Anne books, but Emily was closer to her own heart. Like Anne, Emily is a strong-minded, gifted, imaginative child, left alone and unprotected in a harsh world, who is taken in by adults who are at least initially cold and unloving. Both girls grow up amid the beauties of Prince Edward Island, both keenly sensitive to natural splendors and highly fanciful, not to say occasionally precious, about assigning names to lakes and trees and identifying spirits and fairies in their surroundings. Anne is an original and spunky girl, with a certain amount of talent for writing verses and romantic tales, but Emily is a writer.

In the celebrated Emily trilogy, of which Emily of New Moon is the first volume, Montgomery draws a more realistic portrait of a young girl’s life on Prince Edward Island. The twin threads of bright and dark, love and cruelty, hope and despair intertwine in a pattern as significant as it is enduring.

In the second volume, Emily Climbs, Lucy Maud Montgomery traces the often stormy course of Emily Starr’s life as she moves from the world of childhood into that of school and adolescence.

Emily’s Quest is the last of the Emily trilogy. After finishing Emily Climbs, Montgomery suspended writing Emily’s Quest and published The Blue Castle; she resumed writing and published in 1927.

Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874 – 1942), was a Canadian author best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables. Montgomery went on to publish 20 novels as well as 530 short stories, 500 poems, and 30 essays.

Once he moves on, Sherry is pursued by Brad Henderson, an old friend who always seems to be there when she needs a helping hand. His kindness only annoys Sherry until one day she is shocked into self-reflection when a little girl points to her and asks her mother if she’s “the sad woman who will wind up being an old maid.”

With a friend’s encouragement, Sherry plans a turnaround, putting her house on the market and her name on the waiting list for a nice apartment with a view of the lake. She also agrees to go out with Brad, another bold step outside her comfort zone.

Almost Amish (Tomorrow’s Promise Collection Book #5)

Kathryn Cushman

My very first impression of this book was, “Wow, this is different! Is it REALLY an Amish story?” Well, I was correct, it is very unusual , in that the main characters are NOT Amish. That immediately grabbed my interest, as this is not the norm for the Amish genre. But it is truly a book that involves the Amish and their lifestyle in a very imaginative way.

Karla Hanns

“Cushman crafts strong characters that are
easy to connect with.”–Romantic Times

Julie Charlton is at the breaking point. She’s overwhelmed and burned out, and in today’s unrelenting society, her kids are, too. When her sister-in-law Susan, a Martha Stewart-in-training, lands the chance to participate in a reality TV series promoting simple living, and needs another family to join her, it seems like the perfect opportunity.

The location is an idyllic farm outside an Amish community in Tennessee. Julie, with her two children, joins Susan and her teenage daughter for a summer adventure. Susan needs to succeed in order to become self-sufficient after an ugly divorce, Julie needs to slow down long enough to remember what her priorities are and regain a sense of purpose and meaning. It becomes clear from the start that “living simple” is no simple matter. With the camera watching every move, Susan’s drive for perfection feels a lot like what they left behind, while Julie suddenly finds herself needing to stand up for slowing down. With each new challenge, their season of “going Amish” gets more and more complicated, as each woman learns unexpected lessons about herself and her family.

The Day My Parents Got Lost

The Day My Parents Got Lost

Susette Williams

This book was supper cute but also very helpful. My six and four year old both loved it and wanted me to reread it once I finished it.

Butterfly TM

Has your child ever wandered off—or do you worry that they will?

‘The Day My Parents Got Lost’ is a fun story that gives parents and teachers the opportunity to talk with children about the importance of staying together when you go places, especially amusement parks, so that nobody gets lost.

I remember when my oldest daughter wandered off in a store when she was a toddler. She was so upset with us and blamed us for leaving her. Obviously we didn’t leave her—but in her mind we were the ones who wandered off. All these years later, that fearful time, when she wandered away, is still in my mind. Unfortunately, in today’s society, we have to teach our children about ‘stranger danger’ and staying with us in stores and crowds. This story is a fun way to convey the importance of staying together without scaring them about the possible dangers—that even we don’t want to think about—that lurk out there in the real world.

Miss Minimalist: Inspiration to Downsize, Declutter, and Simplify

Miss Minimalist: Inspiration to Downsize, Declutter, and Simplify

Francine Jay

I originally bought Francine’s “Joy of Less” book that impacted my life considerably. I followed her method of decluttering and found the stress in my life melting away. When I saw her new book online, I decided to add it to my Kindle collection. The new book contains even more ideas which I’m anxious to try.

Book Addict

Would you like to live a beautiful life with less stuff?

This delightful collection of articles by Francine Jay, author of “The Joy of Less, A Minimalist Living Guide,” provides great inspiration to pare down your possessions. Jay breezes from practical topics, like “What’s in a Minimalist Kitchen” and “How Many Shoes are Enough,” to more philosophical musings, like what the Japanese or ancient Greeks can teach us about simple living.

Along with valuable tips and advice, the author shares her personal stories about decluttering and living with less. Her warmth, humor, and encouraging tone make you feel like you’re chatting with a good friend over a cup of coffee—a friend you’d love to invite over to clean out your closets!

These essays are a wonderful introduction to minimalist living, written by someone with a genuine passion for the topic. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your clutter, or disenchanted with consumerism, you’ll find a kindred soul (and a wealth of advice) in Miss Minimalist. Best of all: you’ll likely empty a drawer or two by the time you’ve finished reading!

Be Different: Adventures of a Free-Range Aspergian with Practical Advice for Aspergians, Misfits, Families & Teachers

Be Different: Adventures of a Free-Range Aspergian with Practical Advice for Aspergians, Misfits, Families & Teachers

John Elder Robison

Have you wondered what it really meant to be wired differently? I have read many books that gave me the physiological difference and explanations, but nothing had given me such great insight to the mind of an Aspergian than John Elder Robison’s new book “Be Different.” So here goes my review. This book offers great, practical advice to parents, teachers, and care-givers of Asperger kids. For me, the memorable part came when he covered aspie’s lack of empathy.

citybookgirl

“I believe those of us with Asperger’s are here for a reason, and we have much to offer. This book will help you bring out those gifts.”

In his bestselling memoir, Look Me in the Eye, John Elder Robison described growing up with Asperger’s syndrome at a time when the diagnosis didn’t exist. He was intelligent but socially isolated; his talents won him jobs with toy makers and rock bands but did little to endear him to authority figures and classmates, who were put off by his inclination to blurt out non sequiturs and avoid eye contact.

By the time he was diagnosed at age forty, John had already developed a myriad of coping strategies that helped him achieve a seemingly normal, even highly successful, life. In Be Different, Robison shares a new batch of endearing stories
about his childhood, adolescence, and young adult years, giving the reader a rare window into the Aspergian mind.

In each story, he offers practical advice—for Aspergians and indeed for anyone who feels “different”—on how to improve the weak communication and social skills that keep so many people from taking full advantage of their often remarkable gifts. With his trademark honesty and unapologetic eccentricity, Robison addresses questions like:

• How to read others and follow their behaviors when in uncertain social situations
• Why manners matter
• How to harness your powers of concentration to master difficult skills
• How to deal with bullies
• When to make an effort to fit in, and when to embrace eccentricity
• How to identify special gifts and use them to your advantage

Every person, Aspergian or not, has something unique to offer the world, and every person has the capacity to create strong, loving bonds with their friends and family. Be Different will help readers and those they love find their path to success.

Read the Bible for Life: Your Guide to Understanding and Living God's Word

Read the Bible for Life: Your Guide to Understanding and Living God’s Word

George Guthrie

If you’re interested in learning more about God’s word, how to understand it better and how to get the most out of your Bible reading, this is an excellent resource for you.

T

The Bible may be the most bought book in the world, but it is also often the least read and least applied due to a basic lack of understanding and motivation on the part of readers. Read the Bible for Life aims to improve biblical literacy in the culture and the church by simultaneously moving readers toward greater skill in reading the Bible well and toward a deeper commitment to applying Scripture to everyday life. Through a series of down-to-earth conversations with some of today’s brightest scholars, author George Guthrie discusses the basic tools and attitudes needed to read the Bible more effectively. Chapters focus on the various types of literature in Scripture and how to read them well. For instance, how should we read a psalm differently than we read a parable? How should we read a story of the Old Testament differently than we read a letter from Paul? How can we engage these various parts of Scripture in a way that is truly life-changing? The book also discusses issues such as reading the Bible in context, choosing and reading a Bible translation, reading in times of sorrow or suffering, and reading the Bible with your family. As we better understand how to read the Bible skillfully, we begin to see how every person of the Bible, every psalm, and every teaching fits into the Bible’s powerful, overarching story, and we begin to realize our place in the story that God is still writing in the world.

Heidi (Illustrated)

Heidi (Illustrated)

Johanna Spyri

Great classic story! Well written! My kindergartener and I both love it! It was helpful for her to watch the movie with Shirley Temple before we began reading it, since some of the wording is a bit old-fashioned. But it is definitely a book she will grow into and enjoy even in the years to come. I like the little ribbon bookmark that it comes with, also.

Donna M. Orth

With over 20 different film and TV adaptations to its credit, Johanna Spyri’s classic tale Heidi is among the most popular children’s books in the world and probably the best-known to come from Switzerland. Her story follows an indomitably spirited girl cracking through the harshness of a secluded grandfather, then bringing joy to the life of a young invalid girl named Clara, who is confined to a wheelchair. Published in 1880 and set in the fabled Swiss Alps, Heidi’s simple power has not diminished in over a century, and it remains an enchanting, heartwarming read for old and young alike.

Absolutely I would give this book more stars if I could. It’s the perfect book for the t-baller in your life, and for any young child playing baseball. Would make a great gift too.

Beccaboney

Boys and girls enthusiastically warm up with special exercises and drills. The players throw the ball back and forth, jog, bat, catch, and pitch. Finally, the players divide up into two teams. The coach, as umpire, makes calls as they catch pop flies, run the bases, and slide feet first into home plate. Practice ends with the kids showing that teamwork makes them better players. Powerful, mixed-media illustrations with dramatic, up-close perspectives interpret the rhythmic text and capture the intensity and exuberance of baseball practice.

Daddy-Long-Legs and Dear Enemy by Jean Webster (Halcyon Classics)

Daddy-Long-Legs and Dear Enemy by Jean Webster (Halcyon Classics)

Jean Webster

I read Daddy-Long-Legs as a kid and love it…liked it all over again re-reading it. Dear Enemy is possibly better, in letter form also, but a deeper story. I give it all thumbs and toes up!

Sue T.

DADDY-LONG-LEGS and its sequel, DEAR ENEMY, follow the lives of two orphan girls, Jerusha Abbott and her classmate Sallie McBride through a series of letters. In DADDY-LONG-LEGS, Jerusha “Judy” Abbott has been brought up in an old-fashioned orphanage but excels in her schoolwork, particularly writing. At age 18, however, she finds herself working at the orphanage with few prospects. Her life changes when a mysterious benefactor offers to pay her way through college, requiring only that she write him a letter a month. Addressed to Mr. John Smith, she faithfully writes the letters, never to receive a reply.

In DEAR ENEMY, Judy Abbott’s classmate and best friend Sally McBride grows from a young woman into a successful mature woman. Sally sends her letters to Judy Abbott; Jervis Pendleton, Judy’s husband and the president of the orphanage where Sallie is filling in until a new superintendent can be installed; and the orphanage’s doctor, the bitter Robin ‘Sandy’ McRae, whom Sallie addresses as “Dear Enemy.”

The novels explore a number of themes relevant to early 20th century America, including the changing role of women, orphans, divorce, and social work. Includes an active table of contents for easy navigation.

Alice Jane Chandler Webster (1876-1916) was an American writer and author. A relative of Mark Twain, Webster attended Vassar and became involved in social causes, working with the College Settlement House which served poor communities in New York. She was a supporter of women’s suffrage, a socialist, and interested in institutional reform, particularly orphanages. She died shortly after giving birth to a daughter in 1916.

Saving Gideon (A Clover Ridge Novel)

Saving Gideon (A Clover Ridge Novel)

Amy Lillard

Amy Lillard will make you fall in love with her characters in “Saving Gideon.” I was instantly drawn into her story and while I love Amish novels, I loved the contrast with an “English” character in Avery. It really displays the differences between the Amish way of life and the English way of life and the ups and downs of both.

Lindsey

Gideon Fisher wants one thing out of life — to be left alone. This is not the Amish way, but he’s devastated after the death of his wife and son to the point of losing his faith. He buys a farm on the outskirts of the district and pulls away from his community. But when a freak spring snowstorm brings a beautiful Englisher to his farm, what choice does Gideon have but to let her in?

Dallas socialite Avery Ann Hamilton is intrigued by the Amish farmer who pulls her out of the snow and into his austere lifestyle. Poor little rich girl, Avery has just gone through (yet another) bad breakup. Every man she meets only wants her for her father’s money. All she has ever wanted is to be loved for herself. Avery soon discovers the Oklahoma Amish country is the perfect place to hide out and heal her broken heart.

But she finds a peace in those back roads that she’s never felt before. Now her life has purpose and meaning as she connects with God and those around her. And there’s something more as she begins to care for this man who needs both love and forgiveness.

Gideon never wanted to live again much less fall in love, but Avery finds her way into his heart, showing him the beauty of life and God’s greatness. Yet as the feelings between Avery and Gideon grow, can they overcome their dissimilar lifestyles, or will their sheer differences pull them apart?

October Baby: A Novel

October Baby: A Novel

Eric Wilson

The book itself is written so amazingly, and the story is ‘moving’ at a comfortable pace for me, unlike other books that go to slow, or to fast.
My emotions were most definitely matched at times or even more extreme than Hannah’s was. I most definitely recommend this book to ALL adopted teens or even adults out there!

Christian Newby

A novelization of the acclaimed film that broke the box office top ten even in limited release, October Baby tells the inspiring story of college student Hannah whose increasing anxiety and sudden collapse point to the surprising circumstances of her birth. Hannah soon learns from her parents she was adopted and is the survivor of a failed abortion attempt.

Bewildered, angry, and confused, Hannah turns for support to her oldest friend, Jason. Encouraged by his adventurous spirit, she joins his friends on a road trip, embarking on a journey to discover her hidden past and find hope for the unknown future.

Along the way, Hannah finds that every life is beautiful, and that life can be so much more than what we might have planned.

Adam, a dashing British aristocrat, offers her a world of exotic travel, socializing with royalty, fabulous couture and the life of leisure. Then there’s sweet Kevin, the strong, intelligent, faithful TeamWork member. Will the shy Louisiana lumber man ever take the step of faith to move their relationship to the next level? What Kevin lacks in terms of Adam’s style and panache, he more than makes up for with heart-stirring kisses and soul-searching conversation. When Rebekah suspects Adam is planning to propose a second time, she knows it’s time to make her decision. Juggling both suitors is wrong for so many reasons, but what’s a girl to do if she wants to marry and have children in her lifetime?

When family tragedy strikes, Josh and Rebekah learn the true meaning and value of love, loyalty and what’s most important in life. Leaning on the encouragement and support from Sam and Lexa Lewis and their TeamWork friends, both twins look to the Lord for His divine guidance. 7 Delicious Salad Recipes Made For On The Go Convenience

If you are like me, you probably have a busy lifestyle to keep up with which makes eating healthy pretty difficult. We all know that a good hearty salad is good for you. However, due to everyones busy demanding schedules, finding the time to prepare a good salad isn’t always possible.

Yes, you can get salad in many fast food restaurants; unfortunately, most fast food salads are either not fresh, contains processed fillers, or their dressing contains more calories than their burgers.

What most people don’t know is that many fast food restaurants actually spray their salads with a substance made of propylene glycol to make their lettuce and other vegetables appear fresh, when they could actually be up to 3 days old! So all these reasons really defeat the purpose of trying to eat healthy.

Lucky for you, I am about to reveal an ingenious way to prepare a tasty, mouth watering and healthy salad in a mason jar that can last for up to 7 days – without the unwanted chemical spray.

Frankly I enjoyed reading this work, mostly due to the writing style and presentation of Washington and his environment. It would make a very good book for high school children who want to learn about Washington, but don’t want to become bogged down with details. I recommend it as a very good work to students or those adults who wish to learn about Washington or enhance their knowledge of him and the Revolutionary period. The book is an easy read, although not a short one.

Winner of the prestigious George Washington Book Prize, George Washington is a vivid recounting of the formative years and military career of “The Father of his Country,” following his journey from brutal border skirmishes with the French and their Native American allies to his remarkable victory over the British Empire, an achievement that underpinned his selection as the first president of the United States of America. The book focuses on a side of Washington that is often overlooked: the feisty young frontier officer and the early career of the tough forty-something commander of the revolutionaries’ ragtag Continental Army.

Award-winning historian Stephen Brumwell shows how, ironically, Washington’s reliance upon English models of “gentlemanly” conduct, and on British military organization, was crucial in establishing his leadership of the fledgling Continental Army, and in forging it into the weapon that secured American independence. Drawing on a wide range of sources, including original archival research, Brumwell brings a fresh new perspective on this extraordinary individual, whose fusion of gentleman and warrior left an indelible imprint on history.

Worlds Apart

Worlds Apart

Kathleen Karr

I consider the works of Scott O’Dell and Elizabeth George Speare to be the standard bearers when it comes to young adult historical fiction, but this novel ranks right up there with those books. Bringing to life a little foot note from the history of the Carolinas, Ms. Karr tells a solid story of friendship and the heartache that can accompany it.

Emily J. Morris

Fifteen-year-old Christopher West befriends a young Native American boy his own age in the Carolinas in 1670. Christopher’s new friend teaches him how to hunt, forage, and respect the land and in exchange Christopher teaches his Sewee acquaintance English and how to play chess. As the English move inland and take land and resources from the Indians, Christopher experiences conflicting loyalties. Based on true facts, this is an exciting tale of a little-known chapter in American history.

Amid the Shadows

Amid the Shadows

Michael C. Grumley

I honestly enjoyed this book. It was the second book of mr Grumley’s I’ve read in the last month. Don’t let the title of this review throw you. The book started well, and I thought I would like it. As I read further it got better and better. I like books that have a unique (yet very repectful) way of looking at religion. Plus I liked the action. There were enough twists and sub plots to keep it interesting, and I liked the plausible way the ending occurred.

Anthony Valente

“Love Dan Brown novels? You will love this book!” – Shari Roberts

“The book description calls Grumley the new Dan Brown – he’s not, he is better. He has Brown’s understanding of pace and suspense but his writing is more fluid and natural. His plot is genuinely original, engaging and fantastic, in every sense of the word. A genuinely unputdownable book.”

“If you liked DaVinci Code, you’re probably going to love Amid the Shadows.” – Joanna Daneman – AMAZON TOP 10 & HALL OF FAME REVIEWER

Don Piper

I had chills reading 90 Minutes in Heaven: A true Story of Death and Life. It was very well written I recommend this book.

teampro687

As he is driving home from a minister’s conference, Baptist minister Don Piper collides with a semi-truck that crosses into his lane. He is pronounced dead at the scene. For the next 90 minutes, Piper experiences heaven where he is greeted by those who had influenced him spiritually. He hears beautiful music and feels true peace.

Back on earth, a passing minister who had also been at the conference is led to pray for Don even though he knows the man is dead. Piper miraculously comes back to life and the bliss of heaven is replaced by a long and painful recovery.

For years Piper kept his heavenly experience to himself. Finally, however, friends and family convinced him to share his remarkable story.

College Unbound: The Future of Higher Education and What It Means for Students

College Unbound: The Future of Higher Education and What It Means for Students

Jeffrey J. Selingo

Fascinating book with interesting perspectives on the future of education. While his voice is not the only one expressing the ideas he articulates, he presents them in compelling ways.

Ellen Marie Murphy “ellenmm”

What is the value of a college degree?

The four-year college experience is as American as apple pie. So is the belief that higher education offers a ticket to a better life. But with student-loan debt surpassing the $1 trillion mark and unemployment of college graduates at historic highs, people are beginning to question that value.

In College (Un)bound, Jeffrey J. Selingo, editor at large of the Chronicle of Higher Education, argues that America’s higher education system is broken. The great credential race has turned universities into big business and fostered an environment where middle-tier colleges can command elite university-level tuition while concealing staggeringly low graduation rates, churning out graduates with few of the skills needed for a rapidly evolving job market.

Selingo not only turns a critical eye on the current state of higher education but also predicts how technology will transform it for the better. Free massive online open courses (MOOCs) and hybrid classes, adaptive learning software, and the unbundling of traditional degree credits will increase access to high-quality education regardless of budget or location and tailor lesson plans to individual needs. One thing is certain—the Class of 2020 will have a radically different college experience than their parents.

Incisive, urgent, and controversial, College (Un)bound is a must-read for prospective students, parents, and anyone concerned with the future of American higher education.

Awakening: A Christian Romance Novel (The Lewis Legacy Series, Book One)

Awakening: A Christian Romance Novel (The Lewis Legacy Series, Book One)

JoAnn Durgin

Quite frankly, it’s hard to believe this is a debut novel because Ms. Durgin has penned a compelling story with flesh-and-blood characters so real, they could live next door and a page-turning plot where the pages fly. Which is a good thing since you’ll need a bit of breeze to cool you off when love “awakens” between Sam and Lexa, hooking you in with a tender love story that will make your heart sing. Can’t wait for the next one!

Julie Lessman

A God-fearing man. A God-seeking woman. For Sam Lewis and Lexa Clarke, it proves a combustible combination. Lexa Clarke signs up for a TeamWork Missions summer assignment expecting adventure in a far-off, exotic country. Instead, she’s sent to sweltering San Antonio to help rebuild homes destroyed by sudden flooding. She survives the four-hour bus trip from Houston, dust in the lungs, a flat tire, a tool-throwing incident and a spitting goat – not to mention an inquisition from a distractingly handsome cowboy – all before reaching the work camp. TeamWork director Sam Lewis isn’t sure what to think of his newest volunteer. She’s feisty, witty, and incredibly pretty, but looks more prepared to board a cruise ship than build houses. Burned by a past betrayal, he’s got a job to do, a reputation to uphold. Sam can’t afford to be distracted by a woman who attracts animals, defies his rules, finds trouble at every turn and questions God’s purpose. But when she tumbles from the top beam of one of the houses into his arms, Sam suspects his life will never be the same.

During their weeks together in the TeamWork camp, Sam and Lexa learn the power of forgiveness and healing. Enduring a chain of incidents which challenge their faith, trust and growing relationship, they look to the Lord for guidance as together they discover a love greater than either could ever imagine. At the end of the eight-week work camp, Sam is committed to a year-long, dangerous overseas mission for TeamWork. Can Lexa trust the Lord enough to let him go? Will Sam safely return and keep his promise to meet her at the Alamo? You’ll keep turning the pages of this sweeping romantic adventure.

With great characters, plenty of humor, enough emotion to make you shed a tear or two, and an ending that’ll have you cheering, Awakening will leave you breathless. Hold on tight. The adventures of Lewis and Clarke have only just begun!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Awakening is JoAnn Durgin’s debut novel. The first in the popular Lewis Legacy Series, this story is loosely based on JoAnn’s love story with her husband, Jim. Get ready for romance, adventure, friendship, faith and family in each installment of the series with Sam and Lexa Lewis and their lively TeamWork Missions volunteers. JoAnn and Jim live their three children in Southern Indiana and she works as a full-time estate administration paralegal in Louisville, Kentucky. The Headmistress of Rosemere (Whispers On The Moors)

The Headmistress of Rosemere (Whispers On The Moors)

Sarah E. Ladd

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are easy to follow and get to know. As they struggle with decisions, they both turn to God for guidance. It is a very readable book. Just perfect for these cold winter days after Christmas.

Patience Creighton has devoted her
life to running her father’s boarding school. But when the enigmatic master of
the estate appears at her door, battered and unconscious, the young headmistress
suddenly finds her livelihood—and her heart —in the hands of one dangerously
handsome gentleman.

At twenty-five, Patience Creighton is
already a spinster. The busy headmistress of Rosemere always expected a dashing
man to sweep her off her feet and take her away . . . but that man never came.
And since her father’s death, keeping the school running and her mother happy
has been plenty to keep her occupied.

William Sterling dallied his way into
financial trouble and mortal danger. When he is assaulted by his creditors’
henchmen on the road home from a tavern, he guides his horse to the doorstep of
his tenant, the Rosemere School for Young Ladies. After being tended to by
Patience, the wounded William rides off into the dawn—but makes a point to
learn more about the lovely headmistress.

As he spends more time at Rosemere,
something delicate begins to develop between William and Patience. But that
will not deter William’s creditors. With little money to repay his debts, and
less for the upkeep of his estate, it becomes clear that sacrificing Rosemere
may be the only way to preserve his legacy. But it may also cost him his
happiness.

Strangers in the Night (When i fall in love™)

Patricia H. Rushford

Very good read and hard to put down. I have read several of her books and enjoy each one. Really enjoy a good mystery and also reading a novel that doesn’t have swear words and sex.

Undeniably Yours (A Porter Family Novel Book #1): a novel

Becky Wade

Undeniably Yours is a beautifully written romance with a well-developed cast of characters. The storyline is unique and realistic. Although there is strong religious content, it is never preachy. This delightful first installment of the Porter Family series is a wonderfully angst-free novel that old and new fans of Becky Wade are sure to enjoy.

Winsome and Romantic–the Perfect Summer Read!

When Meg Cole’s father dies unexpectedly, she becomes the majority shareholder of his oil company and the single inheritor of his fortune. Though Meg is soft-spoken and tenderhearted–more interested in art than in oil–she’s forced to return home to Texas and to Whispering Creek Ranch to take up the reins of her father’s empire.

The last thing she has the patience or the sanity to deal with? Her father’s thoroughbred racehorse farm. She gives its manager, Bo Porter, six months to close the place down.

Bo’s determined to resent the woman who’s decided to rob him of his dream. But instead of anger, Meg evokes within him a profound desire to protect. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs to overcome every obstacle that separates them–her wealth, his unworthiness, her family’s outrage–and earn the right to love her.

But just when Meg begins to realize that Bo might be the one thing on the ranch worth keeping, their fragile bond is viciously broken by a force from Meg’s past. Can their love–and their belief that God can work through every circumstance–survive?
